I ate in the dining area and noticed others looking at me like "where'd he get that". So the tacos were spot on. Lots of everything. Nice mild red sauce. Later found out they have others around SA. First time at this restaurant. Having breakfast tacos. They have Healthy option on the menu. I ordered a vegetable Taco corn, tortilla, and black Bean Taco. Also a corn tortilla. The vegetable Taco was absolutely delicious. The black bean Taco was also good. However, it's served with lettuce and tomatoes. The tacos are individually wrapped by the time I ate my Taco......well the cold lettuce, and tomato had made my BLACKBEAN Taco ice cold. The service was great. I've been here a few times but this last time takes the cake! This carne asada salad hit the spot! It is filled with beef, chicken, avocado, black beans, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and I topped mine with ranch dressing and that was the perfect dressing! I got this salad to go in the drive-thru and honestly I wasn't expecting a drive-thru salad to be great but this salad went beyond my expectations. The Wawa bowl is my absolute favorite thing to order from here. It's so tasty and the staff is always friendly and welcoming. The interior inside was nice and I loved the variety on the menu. I'm saddened to write this review, but I hope the owners and managers take it to heart and work to bring the restaurant back to what it used to be. Ay Chiwawa has been a go-to for my wife and me since we moved to San Antonio in 2022. We loved the quality, the service, and the affordability--good food at a good price. My wife especially loved their pancakes; she literally called them the best she'd had at a diner-style local spot. I loved the huevos rancheros, with their good authentic sauce and solid sides. Today we ordered our usuals, huevos rancheros and the pancake plate. The service was subpar--we didn't even receive utensils, and when they finally arrived it was just a fork. We had to ask for a knife and napkins. The food was mediocre at best. The "ranchero sauce" was bland and tasteless, the bacon was burnt, the potatoes were undercooked, and the pancakes were dry. As my wife noted, it was no better than a free mid-level hotel breakfast. To top it off, the bill for two breakfast entrées and two coffees came to over $40. Two McDonald's Big Breakfasts would have been better quality at almost half the price. Every time our kids visited, I used to take them there for breakfast at least once during their stay. Solid queso and a nice smokey salsa - they also have a mild salsa but I think it is too sweet. Handy location in front of walmart at 281/1604.I ordered the enchaladas de crema and they were fantastic! My husband ordered steak, potatoes and eggs ( it has a name but I don't recall it). We dined at At Chiwawa Mexican Restaurant on 1604/281. The food is consistently very good and fast service. I ordered the chicken enchiladas con crema. The chicken was shredded fine and tender rolled in a soft corn tortilla, covered with a savory crema sauce topped with cilantro. My husbands beef enchiladas were moist, filled with plenty of seasoned ground beef, rolled in corn tortillas and topped with chili gravy and melted cheese. The rice and beans were both tasty. Our sons Al carbon tacos were diced finely and were tender. We both enjoyed our adults beverages. My mango Chamoy margarita was quite thick with swirls of liquid Chamoy and served with a Chamoy candy straw. Winner winner, very good and traditional Tex-Mex dinner! read more

Sadly, this used to be my favorite place for quick Mexican food. However, the service is a little less impressive compared to before and the portion sizes have dwindled. As usual, ordering is quick and easy and paying is just a tap away with the little mobile tool they use. However, the staff doesn't come as often to check on you and they don't seem has happy or excited to serve you as before, adding to an overall lowered service experience. Note also that previous photos showed extras like lettuce and tomatoes that they no longer include. The chips servings are also smaller so be prepared to ask for more chips. read more

I had lunch here with a friend. The service was pretty good and the food was tasty. It wasn't very busy and we were seated immediately after we both arrived. I had the wawa bowl with fajita chicken and it was good. The house margarita was OK but not that great. My friend did say her skinny margarita was good. I asked if they had a military discount and the guy said yes but then came back and said it was only for my husband. I've never had this issue before. Usually if you have a military ID they give you the discount. I thought this seemed kind of petty, but that's just my opinion. read more

This location is newly remodeled- formerly Las Palapas, it's convenient to still have a nearby Tex Mex spot with a drive thru. Menu is pretty similar with breakfast tacos, daily specials, and fajitas. Despite the remodel, the parking lot is still a bit of a mess so consider yourself warned. Went by once for takeout enchilada plates and then again for breakfast tacos. Food quality is solid, their tortillas are really good (thick and soft), and I like their queso. They don't skimp on the salsa, either. Full bar inside, too. TIP: Sign up for their mailing list for a BOGO offer. Heads up, they'll email you literally daily reminders for a week. He walked to the back room and placed menus on a table with 8 seats. Then he walked around to each tv and changed channels and then came back by the waiting area and said it will be a little while. I looked back at the table and it was clean and had the menus placed on it. I said what about the table you put the menus on. He said it would be a little more time. He came back a little later and it's ready, but no one had been back to the table they seated us at for 8 minutes. So I said oh, ok I thought maybe you need to change more tv channels.
