I was staying at a hotel that has a free breakfast buffet and usually it's decent. Not this day however. So to Yelp I jumped and located this gem just a mile away. So I go thru their drive-thru and order my usual breakfast taco - bean, bacon, chz y cilantro on flour. Very short wait and back to the hotel I went. I ate in the dining area and noticed others looking at me like "where'd he get that". So the tacos were spot on. Lots of everything. Nice mild red sauce. Later found out they have others around SA. Good place for a taco. read more

I've been here a few times but this last time takes the cake! This carne asada salad hit the spot! It is filled with beef, chicken, avocado, black beans, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and I topped mine with ranch dressing and that was the perfect dressing! I got this salad to go in the drive-thru and honestly I wasn't expecting a drive-thru salad to be great but this salad went beyond my expectations. Very filling, every bite full of flavor, lots of texture, they definitely didn't chinch out. Very quick service, I didn't have to wait very long. I have never been inside but I'm sure it matches the outside, which is very well manicured, flower bushes, and very colorful and inviting. I love Ay Chiwawa! read more

I just wanted to have a quick bite and I went through the drive thru. This was my first time and it was easy to order and there is better prices during lunch. I was there after 5pm so it's dinner menu. There is a great selection. The person at the drive thru was nice. I ordered and waited for the order. I enjoyed the food at home and it was great food. The green sauce was delicious better than the red sauce. I recommend this spot! read more

I ordered take out. It was clean inside when I picked ip my food. When I got home I found out my order was not correct. It was my fault for not checking before leaving. I did just eat the food they gave me. It was ok. More spice than I like. ( I like spice ) , but this was a bit too much. I haven't been back. read more

This is an amazing place to visit. This was my first time here, and I was very impressed. The service was amazing. Taste like my grandmother's cooking, brought back a plethora of memories. I had the tacos which were very good. The ice tea is spot on!! If you are in the area I encourage you to stop by, and give this place a chance. It is off the 1604 access rd on the way to Walmart and Costco. read more

Won't be back because of manager. The food order was wrong , the server didn't offer to make a change , such a simple fix for a regular customer satisfaction would have cost them Pennies, then he argued over 1 egg too . As if one egg would break the restaurant. I paid the egg , and ate the wrong order they must really need money. I've never left a bad review this one merits the 1 star review. read more

Solid Mexican food in casual environment. Nice bar with sports on the TVs. Complimentary chips and salsa. Solid queso and a nice smokey salsa - they also have a mild salsa but I think it is too sweet. Handy location in front of walmart at 281/1604.I ordered the enchaladas de crema and they were fantastic! My husband ordered steak, potatoes and eggs ( it has a name but I don't recall it). Unfortunately the steak ordered rare and delivered a bit overcooked. He just ate it, did not talk to manager. Service is always good with friendly waitresses who check on you regularly. read more

We dined at At Chiwawa Mexican Restaurant on 1604/281. The food is consistently very good and fast service. I ordered the chicken enchiladas con crema. The chicken was shredded fine and tender rolled in a soft corn tortilla, covered with a savory crema sauce topped with cilantro. My husbands beef enchiladas were moist, filled with plenty of seasoned ground beef, rolled in corn tortillas and topped with chili gravy and melted cheese. The rice and beans were both tasty. Our sons Al carbon tacos were diced finely and were tender. We both enjoyed our adults beverages. My mango Chamoy margarita was quite thick with swirls of liquid Chamoy and served with a Chamoy candy straw. Winner winner, very good and traditional Tex-Mex dinner! read more

Sadly, this used to be my favorite place for quick Mexican food. However, the service is a little less impressive compared to before and the portion sizes have dwindled. As usual, ordering is quick and easy and paying is just a tap away with the little mobile tool they use. However, the staff doesn't come as often to check on you and they don't seem has happy or excited to serve you as before, adding to an overall lowered service experience. Note also that previous photos showed extras like lettuce and tomatoes that they no longer include. The chips servings are also smaller so be prepared to ask for more chips. read more

After I finished my workout, I was hungry - and hadn't had Mexican food in a while so.... This place has it all. Excellent food, I had puffy taco plate and the Spanish rice was so light and fluffy and the puffy tacos filled with beef/chicken. Their homemade corn tortillas are delicious. My waiter, Oscar, was the most polite, friendly and efficient waiter I have ever encountered ... Got UT/Arkansas game going on TV in background & the best Mexican martini I've ever tasted and all of this with true Mexican music just loud enough to truly appreciate & enjoy. We're in San Antonio for three weeks. We've already been here twice, and I'm planning on using them to cater the medical facility we are at before we leave. GIRLS NIGHT OUT ! So we gave this plate a try! The food was good. I expected more from the Fideo to have a little bit more flavor .. the Wawa enchiladas were good and a cool variety of a plate to get. The puffy tacos could use a little bit more flavor as well. I had lunch here with a friend. The service was pretty good and the food was tasty. It wasn't very busy and we were seated immediately after we both arrived. I had the wawa bowl with fajita chicken and it was good. The house margarita was OK but not that great. My friend did say her skinny margarita was good. I asked if they had a military discount and the guy said yes but then came back and said it was only for my husband. I've never had this issue before. Usually if you have a military ID they give you the discount. I thought this seemed kind of petty, but that's just my opinion. read more

If I could give a zero I would. Walked in not busy. Had 7 people to eat and the manager with the bald head said it would be a minute. He walked to the back room and placed menus on a table with 8 seats. Then he walked around to each tv and changed channels and then came back by the waiting area and said it will be a little while. I looked back at the table and it was clean and had the menus placed on it. I said what about the table you put the menus on. He said it would be a little more time. He came back a little later and it's ready, but no one had been back to the table they seated us at for 8 minutes. So I said oh, ok I thought maybe you need to change more tv channels. Skip this place and go to Camellias, Tommy's or a real Las Palapas. read more

This location is newly remodeled- formerly Las Palapas, it's convenient to still have a nearby Tex Mex spot with a drive thru. Menu is pretty similar with breakfast tacos, daily specials, and fajitas. Despite the remodel, the parking lot is still a bit of a mess so consider yourself warned. Went by once for takeout enchilada plates and then again for breakfast tacos. Food quality is solid, their tortillas are really good (thick and soft), and I like their queso. They don't skimp on the salsa, either. Full bar inside, too. TIP: Sign up for their mailing list for a BOGO offer. Heads up, they'll email you literally daily reminders for a week. It's a bit much but it's a good deal. read more

Haven't been here in a few years until today . Honestly, the expectations to give a tip in the drive thru is a HUGE turn off. The first percentage you see when they give you the pad is 25% ! Are you kidding me? This whole tipping culture is out of control! I am not tipping in a drive thru! Food is good but I felt so sick for hours tonight after eating it . Won't be back. Hopefully when people don't tip in the drive thru they aren't doing anything to the food . I was sick for hours after only eating a small amount. read more

I really don't understand how this restaurant is still in business especially when Las Palapas is right across the street. The food was very very average for the same price you could get Much better food at Las Palapas. The drinks yall the drinks..... Probably the worst part. when you order a margarita and it is a neon green you know it ain't going to be good. Then you order a vodka soda and the soda is flat...... That was our first and last time there. When I was cheap good Mexican food I'm going to Las Palapas or Taco Cabana. read more

I am continually disappointed in their food. They can't even get a basic cheese quesdilla right. It is greasy and over stuffed with cheese. Gross! The beef fajita arrived with brown goop over the top. We eat with our eyes! Sadly, there are no delivery food options to our area so we keep trying. I give up. read more

The food is delicious. Why not more stars? Price. The barbacoa plate is $10 and they give you two tortillas. I included a carne guisada taco with cheese and it alone was close to $5 for the one taco. The service was good and I was happy with the meal but we are in San Antonio and when you price your breakfast this high I have a problem making it my go to. I'll come back for lunch or dinner and see if I feel the same. So for now I'll give it three strong stars. read more

The margaritas are $16 +, but come out of the tap. Bland and watered down. I always want a margarita shaken. I also can't believe a Mex place does NOT offer chips and salsa complimentary. That's a Texas sin. I tried the poblano burger, medium. It was ok, but really dry. The fries were good. Ultimately, my test for a good marg is to have the bartender make my favorite, Blanco tequila, Cointreau, and lime. He did, but added fake lime juice and didn't use Cointreau. It also wasn't good. I'm bummed. Beautiful patio, lots of potential, but it's just not it.

We ordered the Tosti-Ceviche Verde, Panela Asado, Mexican Street Corn, and their Spicy Bean Dip. The Ceviche Verde was excellent, the freshness of the fish and shrimp was wonderful with the chipotle mayo and avocado. We chose to have it on the salsa Verde Tostitos and it was all great combination. The Panelo Asado was a completely new dish for us and was extremely good with a savory flavor from the salsa Tlaquepaque that mixed well with the Panela cheese. Their tortillas though not made in house, are made for them and taste like mom made them. The Mexican Street Corn was great and had the perfect bit of char taste from the corn. It was creamy and flavorful, we did think it could use just a tad more lime juice though. The Spicy Bean Dip was very good. You can't go wrong with Oaxaca, Chorizo, and pieces of pork mixed with some mildly spicy beans. Our server was fantastic. She had great recommendations for us, and was quick with checking on our drinks and generally helping us throughout our dinner. The food was prepared quickly, was hot, tasteful and refreshing. We definitely will be going back, and recommend Pan Fila to all of you.
