I was in and out for soil... or so I thought. I ended up stumbling across their clearance section, and let me tell you--it's a goldmine. They had lighting and other household gear marked down to 60% off retail. I scored four awesome headlamps for a fraction of the price. It's not something I planned for, but I'm definitely not mad about it. I believe it was Bill or Phil who helped me out--he was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. I asked about grow lights, and not only did he make a solid recommendation, but he also walked me over to the right section. That kind of personal service is rare these days, and it left a great impression. One thing I noticed, though, was that the older staff members were genuinely friendly and helpful. They greeted me, engaged in conversation, and seemed to take pride in being there. In contrast, the younger staff felt a little checked out... not rude, but they were kind of low energy and not particularly invested. This is not a dealbreaker, but it is worth mentioning. The fantastic selection of hidden deals, and some of the best soil prices I've seen in town. It's clear that this Ace cares about its regulars and offers value that goes beyond convenience. That said I did come during the week and had awesome customer service. I had to buy a bunch of different lumber to fix my back deck and the person helping me could've been more friendly, offered me lots of tips after I asked and stacked up everything to get it out front. I also had a lot of little things to pick up in different departments, and I found someone who actually walked me through motor to the store to find what I needed. From a new cage to cover my dryer vent to changing out the hardware on one of my doors. I think the key if you're looking for good service it's just not show up when they're 50 million people there. So if you can get in there before work starts because they open at like 6 AM in the morning, or go after work you'll be doing yourself a huge favor.

They make it extremely difficult to return merchandise that's only slightly past the return date -- even when it's unused and in perfect condition. The staff and store managers seem to have no authority or flexibility to help customers in any way. It's frustrating that Home Depot is becoming so rigid and unwilling to work with loyal customers and contractors. Very poor policy decisions -- disappointing to see such a decline in customer service. Better service from local lumberyard and nearby home stores.

The ones they had were a bit beat up, I bought some anyway and they should be alright but some of the ones left over... not so much. This place has an outdoor self checkout system, which was new to me but easy to use. They thankfully still have a checkout person if you need help or have questions. Normally I enjoy going to Menards but this was on a new level (!!). I especially enjoyed the trip to the second floor because just below they have a garden pathway of statuary like Versailles and you can get a sense of the scale of this store. Luckily, a helpful employee directed me to the zip ties. I picked up a standing tower fan, some drain cleaner and just marveled at the pet supplies (an aisle for food, an aisle for treats, an aisle for toys), snacks, candy, more. Not one delivery date they provided was accurate--every promised date ended up being pushed more than 30 days past what I was told at purchase. When I attempted to cancel, they couldn't even manage that. First I was told the vendor hadn't acknowledged the order, so cancellation wasn't possible. After escalating through customer service, the store supervisor, and finally the store manager, suddenly the order was acknowledged--but now they 'needed to contact the vendor' before canceling. Meanwhile, the charge had already hit my credit card. To make matters worse, despite spending nearly $10,000, not a single item qualified for free shipping. Stores like Menards and Home Depot waive shipping on orders over $200 without hesitation. This place operates like wolves in sheepskin. Save yourself the headache and go elsewhere.
