After dropping off my friend at the airport, I decided to check out this Mexican restaurant nearby…read morecalled Cazares. They have this unique dish called the fried avocado. You have an option to get it stuffed with shrimp, crawfish etoufee, beef, or chicken. The waitress recommended shrimp so I went with that. They give you complimentary chips and salsa. I wish the salsa was less watery and more spicy but I still ate it up. They also give you a bottle of green salsa but that one wasn't that spicy either. I think I saw some tables have another darker red salsa but they didn't give me that one. The plate comes with som rice, refried beans, and 4 tortillas with your choice of corn or flour. The shrimp were huge and full melty cheese a good flavor. I basically made tacos out of bite of the fried avocado. Very creamy with a slight outer crisp, but it breaks pretty easily. After awhile it got harder to eat because of the richness of the avocado. This was a very heavy meal and put me to sleep afterwards

It's very colorful (literally) place inside, and it took a while before I could look away. Food and service were good. Chips and two salsas very tasty. Note: This was a draft, and I forgot what we had to eat. Probably a relleno if they had it, or a torta, my two go-tos. Mango margarita was very tasty (mango is one of my favorite fruits, and a cool surprise (literally).

Of the three Mexican restaurants in South Houston I've tried, this is my favorite. To be fully…read moreup-front, this meal was an employer-paid dinner for about 30 people, after a training, so the food (but not drink) was pre-selected. The decor is quaint with dark wood and colorful tile, so it can get pretty noisy, especially in one of the party rooms, but it was fun. The service was fast, especially given the size of our group. The food was tasty and flavorful. Our appetizers were nachos that had two kinds on the same plate: chicken with white cheese and beef with cheddar, and a generous dollop of fresh guacamole in the middle of the plate. So much better than cheese sauce! The chips came with fairly standard red and green salsas. Flavorful, but not hot. A nicely smoky and spicy habanero sauce was available on request (the first decently hot food I've found in Houston). The main course was chicken and beef fajitas, with beans, rice, cheese and pico de gallo. The flavors were robust, with nice, warm and fresh tortillas. A mix of the regular salsa and habanero sauce paired beautifully. Lastly, the margaritas were tasty: fruity with a nice kick, and Tajin on the rim.

Definitely felt the holiday presence here. Our waitress was very attentive and patient with us as we took some time trying to decide exactly what we wanted to eat- lots of options to choose from. Plus, we came in right on time for Happy Hour which was a win win. We ordered the taco al carbon beef fajitas, which came with your choice of beans and rice. The charro beans were selected and quite flavorful. My son got the chicken ranchera and both were huge portions. My husband and split the tacos al carbon. For drinks we got the blue Hawaiian and multiple flavors of their margaritas- ALL on point. Overall service was spectacular and a chill vibe. If you have kiddos (or not) there's also a mini arcade and bubble gum machine nearby. Definitely stop by if you're ever in the area.
