I was feeling Greek food after our hike in Poway. Called this place as I wanted a gyro but a lot of places make them with only beef or chicken, while I prefer lamb. Larry's says theirs is a mix of beef and lamb. It was perfectly fine but still prefer lamb. Lots of fries came with it. My wife had the quarter chicken plate. She said she was glad she didn't get the half chicken as it was a lot of food. She enjoyed it. Parking can be a pain. The lot serves a number of places. We were there during the week, just before 1:00 pm, and we had to leave the lot and circle back to find a spot. read more

Let's start with very friendly staff. The person who took our order was able to substitute items for us and without a hassle or charge. The food. My fiancé had the chicken kabobs and they were tender and juicy with great flavor. Her humus was very delicious as we believe it to be house made. This is a locally owned place, and odds are that Larry the owner was waiting on you at the counter. Everytime we've come in, he's helped us. I think he must sleep there, and only go home on Sundays. This is at the far end of Poway, so unless you're headed to the rodeo or the Poway Performing Arts Center, you've probably never driven by it. Everything in the center is a small business, no chains here. Larry got me hooked on gyros. I was never a big fan, usually ordering chicken instead. But he told me he had to try his, and I did. Now that's all I order whenever I go. The gyro basket combo with a drink is about $8, a great deal. We've even bought a pound of gyro meat to take home for later. My Mom also really likes the Dolmas, and gets it to go for lunch the next day. I see lots of regulars, including Sheriffs Deputies. This is what Daphne's should taste like, but doesn't. He's not open super late, or Sundays. You pay 50¢ to use a card, or bring cash. You only get 1 refill. I can live with that. read more

I'm pretty sure they use the five minute microwave rice it tasted just like it and had the same texture I was super disappointed. The pita bread tasted super plain and premade too. I was literally scared to eat my food because I was worried that I would get food poisoning. The only thing that tasted fresh was the salad! The owner also sat and watched me and my friends eat our meals the entire time until we walked out the door which was extremely awkward!! This our go-to restaurant for Greek food. We go every other week or so; sometimes more often. Their sampler platters are excellent, as are their sandwiches and regular platters. Get something with shrimp in it; you won't regret it. My favorites are the pikilia platter and the veggie sampler, and the shrimp and gyro combo. This is my wife's favorite nearby restaurant. When you dine in, the service is superb. The waitresses work extra hard to make sure everyone is well attended and doesn't need to wait too long. read more

The best local greek spot! I've been going to Larry's since I was a kid and he had always been super kind and offers amazing food. He also seems to know all his customers that come in. It's remarkable that when I call in an order over the phone, I just say "Hey Larry!" and he knows it's me right off the bat. Was gonna go to a place I frequent today for lunch with a friend, but we decided to check this one out instead. It's like a cave inside, corrugated metal ceilings, dark lighting and dark painted walls...clean, but clearly cavernous. No public restroom. My beef skewer plate(two beef skewers with peppers/onions, rice pilaf, greek salad and pita) was about $11.00, they charge a .50 service fee for using credit card. Iced tea was about $2.50. Two ounce portion cup of hummus was $1.00. The beef skewers had three maybe 3/4 oz. chunks of beef. Well cooked, marinated beef. Tasty, but I wanted another chunk on each skewer for the price. The rice and salad were great and I ate it all up. The hummus was the weak part of the meal. It was grainy....really, really grainy and only had a few bites of it. Breakdown: Ambiance/Cleanliness-clean, but the lighting and overall feel made it seem dingy and unwelcoming....3 stars Service-The gentleman at the counter was busting his butt, but he was courteous, helpful and professional.....4 stars Food-previously mentioned smaller portion for the skewers and the weak hummus were a let-down.....3 stars I'd go back, but would only get it to go. read more

The salads were fresh and the veggies were crisp. The fries were hot and seasoned well. The falafel was flat which was new for me but still very yummy. The gyros sandwich was pretty good at *** Larry's Santorini Greek Food ***. The chicken salad was ok but not great...just a small portion of diced chicken, only a couple Kalamata olives and a light dusting of crumbled feta (and no peperoncini). The pita was placed directly on top of the salad -- so it was mushy 20 min later when we got home. The Tzatziki sauce tasted fine but its consistency was more like salad dressing...mixing with Greek yogurt improved it. I will probably try different items next time. read more

This is a great place to go if you want more Greek Mediterranean vs. the middle eastern type of Mediterranean that North Park produce offers. Was here for the first time. Melissa was my cashier. She was really nice, welcoming, helpful, had great energy. Was very helpful helping picking items with no carbs. She kept the place clean. Checked up on me. Made sure I had extra napkins. Took my plate when I was done. As I left, she cleaned the table and set utensils again. Very great worker. She needs to train whoever else gets hired. The portion size of the burrito was larger than expected - a pleasant surprise! The feta fries were good, just some fries with feta cheese sprinkled on top. But nothing very spectacular about them. Second time here and last.First time was ok and gave it another try it complete fail all around. So ordered 3 gyros No onion. All came with onion strike one. The meat was cut so thick and in chunks and little mini bites total neglect tasted ok but can't give too much love for something not made in house. The bread was terrible soggy falling apart a saltine cracker would of had a better chance holding mabey add a bit of butter throw it on the griddle for a second i guess not strike two. I asked for two baklava pices and got one refrigerated pice to share with the wife strike three and I'm out with my onion breath peace.
