This Locksmith/Hardware store in the heart of Riverdale, is a rare gem. Reliable, courteous and helpful. I needed a new key for an old (30years) but sturdy 4 drawer file cabinet. Thought I'd have to spend a lot of money getting a new lock installed, but Josh informed me they could make a key by the code on the lock that was already on the file cabinet. During the second service call, I had their technician correct work that Webster Lock and Hardware Company did only a year before. The Larry the Locksmith technician called me with an estimated time of arrival on our appointment day, arrived when he said he would, fixed the issue I was having, and had a nice professional demeanor with me. I called and spoke to Eric who was excellent. I wasn't sure if they would install the multilock I already had or would make me purchase another one from them. I was very pleased when Eric told me they could absolutely install my multilock without my having to purchase a new one and would just charge me for the labor involved. He gave me a quote over the phone and the cost was very reasonable. I called on Wednesday and Eric was able to fit me in that same week on Saturday afternoon. Already I was impressed with Eric's honesty in not trying to make me purchase something I didn't need. Joe called on Saturday before the scheduled time to say he could come earlier if I was available which was perfect for me. He was quick, efficient, waited as I tried the lock out, and answered all my questions. He even cleaned up afterward! How amazing is that! A great experience overall. When I called to make the appointment, the person I spoke to took the time to understand what I need and explained my options clearly. On the day, the locksmith called to say that he was running *ahead* of schedule, which worked out great for me. He replaced the existing mortise lock that was installed by a previous owner (and which was the wrong size for the door), changed the cylinder in the existing deadbolt, and fixed the alignment of everything. Wanted to have Window Gate installed where our Fire Escape is. Made Easy appointment with Larry The Locksmith. A representative showed up On-Time. He was wearing a mask, perfect. Rep was friendly and knowledgeable. He measured the window quickly, during which we had friendly friendly conversation about the craziness of our times (COVID and politics). He told me the the gate would be ready next week. It was. He returned and installed the Gate with the same friendly chatter and professionalism as expected. My Medeco lock wasn't working. Apparently, it was such a good model, that they don't make it anymore. Jaime fixed the problem, and was polite and efficient. This review is a little late, but back on October 7th 2014, I called Larry the Locksmith based on the great reviews on here. I was visiting my mom for the week and used The Club on the steering wheel thinking I had the key on me. I know... some people say using the Club isn't going to stop anyone, but any little bit helps. Anyway, so I finally realized I left my key back in Toronto, Canada. Called CAA (AAA) they couldn't help me. So I finally called Larry the Locksmith and they sent Jacob, who by the way showed up earlier than the time they gave me. He was very helpful, trustworthy, and friendly. I've come to rely on this store for their really extraordinary service. The minute you walk in, someone is there ready to help you--but not in that pushy, desperate way that some stores have. They just want to make your trip to the hardware store as quick and easy as possible, which I really appreciate. In the past couple of years, I've started just walking in there and telling them my problem and asking their advice. I've done this several times--once I even brought photos--and they've always come through with easy and effective advice (like recommending I buy epoxy to fix some very expensive shelves, rather than dropping a ton of money on replacement parts). Another thing I appreciate about this store: although most of the employees I've encountered are men, I never feel like I'm being talked down to, the way I've felt in other hardware stores. They're cool and respectful. I've never used their locksmith services, so I can't comment on that, although they have made keys for me (quick, effective) in the past. I called in advance to set up an appointment to have my locked change on the co-op I just purchased. Jacob came out today to change out my locks (that had been drilled out) & called 1/2 hour before arriving. Once he looked at the lock he realized that I had asked for the wrong thing. I had asked for the cylinders to be changed & I actually needed the full deadlock for the top lock. He, be fully prepared, had what I actually needed. Jacob went right to work, installing both the bottom lock cylinder & the top deadlock. He keyed them all to one key at my request & was done in an hour. Quick, efficient, knowledgeable & polite! Larry the Locksmith is the neighborhood store your parents took you to when you were young. Whatever you need, they have it. The sales people are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I find myself stopping in once or twice a week for some random item. One day last year I went because I needed a grapefruit knife and a Bundt pan. Of course they had both! They have moved my high end medco lock twice. Before my most recent move, I asked if I should just leave the lock and buy a new one. They said moving it would be much cheaper. What business tells you NOT to buy something? They are honest and trustworthy. Larry the Locksmith is a rare treasure in our big box world. If you've never been, go!
