Dr Chan performed a TAVR on my heart opening up an aortic valve previously repaired in 2009. I have to brag on Dr Chan as he's really an expert doing this procedure. Dr Chan actually worked at many hospitals in the country teaching other doctors how to do this procedure. I felt very safe. Additionally, the office staff is very friendly despite how busy they are. If you want a fantastic cardiologist with a great bedside manner, look no further. I've been going to Dr. Chan for almost 2 years and I have only had positive experiences with him and his wonderful staff. That said, sometimes he runs behind and I honestly feel that's because when he's with you, he NEVER makes you feel rushed and listens to everything you have to say. As a patient, I never mind waiting a bit because I know when I he comes thru the door he's 100 percent present for me. I don't think you can ask for anything more from a very busy physician. Dr. Larry Chan is a excellent doctor however, his staff is a complete disaster. They are INCOMPETENT, rude, dismissive and behave as if they are doing YOU a favor by taking your call. For over 6 years I have been a patient at Elite Cardiology. My most recent visit for an EKG (November 2021) went fine but subsequent follow-up interaction with staff has been exasperating. I have never been treated so poorly by any doctor's office or supportive staff. Pre-pandemic, the Elite Cardiology staff were professional, friendly and competent. Today, I decided I needed to find a new Cardiologist as just dealing with his current staff, in particular, Adriana, Monique and Mercedes is a nightmare. This staff does not return phone calls, seem confused each time I talk with them, ask me the same questions multiple times on the same call when the sole purpose of the call is to make an appointment. It's as if we are just speaking for the very first time. Each call is an exercise in frustration that can give one heart palpitations. It's over. read more

My Telehealth appointments are always missed by the doctor, and when I call to ask what happened the following day I'm now repeatedly told that they were never put in the system by the front desk. This is definitely not the place you want to go if you are having any heart related issues. The front desk staff is so poorly trained. Dr Chan took plenty of time explaining to my father and I about his condition. He was very patient and was concerned that I understand the details. So far I'm very impressed with Dr Chan's knowledge and bedside manner. I took my mother to the hospital after many months of chest pain and she woke up at 2 am with chest pain so we went to San Antonio hospital and fortunately for us we met Dr. Chan. Even in the middle of the night he had such a great smile and and amazing bed manners that my mom was so comfortable!! He found a 100% blockage in her heart and opened it up all through the wrist, she said she was so comfortable that she didn't feel any pain during the procedure at all! She went home next day and most importantly she has no further chest pains. You do have to wait in his clinic but it's because everyone wants to see him, my mom said she refuses to see anyone but him! My family is so happy to have met him! read more

Dr Chan took the time to listen to my concerns regarding my AFib problem that only occasionally occurs and, checked my history on a stent that I had to have in 2013 . He was able to get the insurance to authorize 3 separate tests that assured me I was doing well and now down to a yearly checkup instead of every 6 months. On 10/20/2019, I had a heart attack and being delivered to SARH by ambulance. Dr. Larry Chan did a successful operation on me and saved my life. One month has been passed, now I feel my heart is better than ever. I would like to express my thanks to Dr. Larry Chan and his wonderful team in operational room, er room and hospital. Horrible, horrible, horrible office staff. This office staff does not care about elderly patients with heart conditions. Dr Chan is very lovely, listens and seems to be good at what he does, but the fact that he has no awareness of the level of unprofessionalism in his office is extremely troublesome. The office staff has screened calls and hung up on my 80+ year old parent, calling about their congestive heart failure condition. Calls are transferred to medical assistants that can not form intelligent sentences or relay any sort of confidence that they understand the urgency of the request. My family interfaces with numerous doctors as we care for our elderly parents. This office "takes the cake" for tacky, rude, unkind behavior. It really boggles the mind that these employees are working with heart patients. Office staff that cruelly discriminates is a big problem when you are living with a serious health condition. read more

On Feb. 20th I had a massive heart attack and was rushed to San Antonio Hospital. I was extremely fortunate that Dr. Larry Chan was able to perform an emergency transcatheter arotic valve replacement (TAVR). I was informed two days later that I only had a heart function of 15% at the time of the TAVR procedure. The procedure itself was essentially painless, and my heart is now functiong at 45%. Very nice Doctor, but sure he is NOT the one for me. This was my first night in San Antonio Hospital ER with a bad bout of AFIB with Tachycardia and Bradycardia. THEY ADMITTED ME BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T GET MY heart rate under control. Dr Chan cones in and assures me that if I am on my blood thinners, i cant die or have a stroke. BUT...... I wasn't given my blood thinner because the doctor forgot to order it! Blood pressure at times 166/110 and heart rate up and down. 157 to 35 ....I was miserable. Next day, Horrible pounding headache, Afib and tachycardia back and forth chest feeling like it was going to explode, and he struts in saying Im fine and don't need to be in the hospital That I cant die from this and I absolutely, positively cannot have a stroke because I'm on blood thinners. I looked at him in disbelief and asked him. "So I can drive like this and work like this with my head spinning and nauseated and shaking like a leaf and my heart pounding out if my chest?" He smiled and looked at me and said emphatically, Yes! You're fine! I left the hospital the next day while still in AFIB and my blood pressure and Heart rate out of control. Both the doctors and the nurses saying not to worry. Doctor says you're fine. I ended up in Urgent Care the very next day. How very sad. read more

I was unsure when I came what to expect given the complaints of long waits but seems like a good cardiologist so I thought I would bring my dad to see him. One of our family friends actually saw him and told us about him so when we came, there was a tv and some coffee and snacks which was a nice surprise. We then got roomed immediately without a wait, did not even get a chance to finish our new patient paperwork. Dr. Chan came in and asked a number of detailed questions and then recommended two tests that he explained in great detail. My dad and I did not even have any questions as he explained everything so well. His tests were negative so my dad feels a lot better. The reassurance he got for knowing his issues were not due to his heart was worth gold to us! Now Dr. Chan recommended him to exercise and he just joined a gym and is doing really good. I think Dr. is inexperienced. Lack ability to listen to the patient, notes about office visit was wrong. His assistant Yesenia is also incapable in problem solving. Not on top of things, lack communication skills. Need to repeat request 5-6x to get a barely understanding. This office is very slow in response. Can't even spell patient's name correctly after repeated notifications. Dr. doesn't know how to manage staff & the staff is incompetent makes it very difficult for patients. A good Dr's assistant makes a difference. read more
