    PERNIL COM QUEIJO DA SERRA
    Stacy S.

This place is a perfect hole in the wall sandwich shop. I stopped here after a long walk (uphill of course) around Porto. I ordered the Pernil com queijo da Serra and it was amazing. Perfectly roasted pulled pork with a bit of saltiness with the cheese. I finished the entire sandwich but definitely shareable. A must try if you're near the Lello Library!

We took a chance on this place and it paid off !! Delicious cheese and sausage boards and the steak and eggs sandwich was so good !! Great locals place. No pretension and Awsome food !! Non Touristy so the price was right !!!

Literally cannot put into words how good this place is. In fact it was so good, that we went back twice in the same day for lunch and dinner. The pork and cheese sandwich is 11/10 and the steak and egg is also amazing. I'm not a fan of sangria but their white sangria was really yummy and sooooo affordable. 100% recommend!

A restaurant I would love to have on my neighbourhood. Delicious pork and cheese sandwich and incredible low prices. I would recomend to drink the 1,90€ sangria, it got me pretty drunk. I would also recomend the mixed platter with cheese and meats. For dessert we tried tripas doces con chocolate. Too good. Can't believe we pay so little for such a fantastic meal.

Extremely delicious Prego em Pao (steak) sandwich! Very friendly staff who spoke English and gave us an English menu - much appreciated. It was about 14 euros for 2 sandwiches, 1 soup, and 2 large beers. Highly recommend!

Great spot for sandwiches and sangria! The staff is very friendly and the price is good. It's a bit small so it might be difficult to grab a table sometimes but it's worth the visit.

Loved the authentic feel, generous sangria pour and affordability! Great last stop for lunch on our way out from Porto. €14 for 2 sandwiches with chips, a water, beer & a glass of sangria. We were lucky to come with no wait and got our food quickly. The server even handed us an English menus which was great.

Was in Porto with a friend last winter for 24 hours, when we stumbled on to this place because of yelp. To this day my friend and I still talk about the sizable portions we received for the price and what I consider the best sangria of my life! We had the smaller size of the traditional sandwiches, and an order of the meat/cheese plate. Even the rustic bread that came with the appetizer was delicious. Definitely will be returning during my next visit to Porto!

Absolutely refreshing and well worth it. Seating was a bit of a challenge since there was no space inside, but we made it work outside and thankfully, the heaters kept us warm. So far, so good. Unfortunately, the service completely changed the tone of our visit. The woman taking our order was not just unfriendly. She was outright disrespectful! When my friend misplaced her ticket (we still had the number and were being cooperative), she asked politely if it would be okay. Instead of responding with basic courtesy, the employee made a scene and said in Spanish, "para la próxima guarda tu puto ticket." What she didn't realize is that we also speak Spanish. There was absolutely no reason for that level of hostility over such a minor situation. It turned what should have been a simple, enjoyable meal into an uncomfortable experience. We came here just to enjoy good food and while the food delivered, the service left a lasting impression for all the wrong reasons. I truly hope no one else has to experience that kind of treatment.

We saw the two waiters come to the street and picked up a few bags of rolls that was delivered and likely for their sandwiches they planned on serving for the day. Word about this must be going around since besides me and my wife, there were 2 other group of people waiting for them to open. Pregar is definitely a small restaurant with only 8 tables inside and 4 tables outside. Their menu was separated by language and our waitress opened it on the English menu. My wife just had soup and I ordered the Serra (Portuguese steak with cheese) on a roll. The price was just for the burger and so I added the fries which came on a dipping side (they had sweet chili, horse radish mayo, ketchup) just to name a few. We actually had the sweet chili and later the horse radish mayo to try. So the steak sandwich I had was Medium (they ask how you want it cooked and went with how the Portuguese like their steaks.) It was a simple no frills sandwich. Just steak. Melted cheese on a roll. The bread was soft and complimented the meat in a 1-1 ratio which I like. Sometimes with a burger, you have more bread with a small burger in the middle. The Serra was 12 euro and thought that was a fair price for a steak sandwich. Overall, I'd give the Serra 4 stars. Service was wonderful and our waitress was attentive and helpful with her suggestions on the steak sandwich to go with. 5 stars. Overall, it was a great lunch and we enjoyed being one of the first ones to dine that day. By the time we were about to finish, more patrons were coming in to eat. Definitely a place If you happen to be near Pregar, I would recommend to try.

The best bifana sandwich in town…read more Conga in Porto is renowned for their bifana sandwich. This is a classic pork sandwich with thin slices of marinated pork served in warm Portuguese roll bread. This introductory dine-in meal was coincidentally the most memorable meal of our trip. We came on a weekday for lunch and was seated shortly on their busy 2nd floor interior. The shredded pork slices were so tender and flavorful having been simmered to soak up all of the spice seasoning the marinade in the large pan for staff to pose with at the storefront. You can watch as the staff skewer out the meat in between the bread. The soft pillowy papo seco bread melted with the meat and was dunked in the spicy pork sauce for extra flavour. We paired this bifana sandwich (3.60 EUR) with their refreshing iced tea and a classic papas stew (3.50 EUR). The stew mixed minced pork & chicken in cornmeal thickened with pork blood. The seasoning made this surprisingly appetizing without much gamey flavour. Our only regret was not ordering more bifana sandwich instead while assuming other shops could be comparable. Simply put, this bifana sandwich was so savoury and none of the other famous shops we visited later ended up coming close. In fact even a Porto local whom we bumped into at a famous bifana sandwich spot in Lisbon flat out said Conga was better and she was right. You're not here for the service but a quick tasty bite. Skip it or hit it? Conga is worth the hype and you have to dine-in or takeout this sandwich!

I'm very glad we stopped here while we were in Porto. I'm also glad we managed to find two *seats* together - the place is tiny, and well-attended. It's a bit cramped if you're dining in, but worth it (assuming you can find a seat.) I was also spoiled after the first fried cheese-dog arrived like 2 minutes after ordering it, despite it being so busy - the pica pao took a longer time (not an unreasonably long time), as did the second cachorrinho I decided I needed to get even though I wasn't *terribly* hungry after sharing the first two items, cause it was so good, and I knew I wouldn't be back any time soon, if ever (was fine by me, as I was also enjoying trying a bunch of Portuguese spirits for cheap - 3.5 euro for a decently large glass of ginja, 3-5 euro for various Portuguese brandies... they thought I was weird ordering a large glass of ginja, but it goes *so* well with the salty deep fried food served here.) Cachorrinhos are super unhealthy obviously, being basically a fried hot dog stuffed with cheese, but excellent, totally worth the roughly 5 bucks. The pica pau Americo was also a pretty good value, as a "small" is... not small. I figured I should try both of the things they were most known for - the pica pau was great too, but if I were ever back, I'd probably just stuff my face with wonderful fried crispy cheese dogs.

When we finally got seated you could tell that the servers were definitely busy trying to get everyone's food and drinks out and so the same hostess came to us and said don't worry I'll take your order for you and told us the things that were the most popular which from my pictures we basically got everything she said LOL. And we were not disappointed with the food that we chose. Now we know why they are considered the house specialties. The flavors of the potato fish cheesy goodness dish I cannot remember the name of it was just so warm and comforting. I was worried about a fishiness coming through when you took different bites but no all the flavor is harmonized well with each other. The tuna salad that they made was extremely fresh and again was pleasantly surprised that though it was fish the spices and bread/butter combo that came with it really didn't give any fishiness. It was also well balanced. Now I will say though those other dishes were amazing our favorite hands down was definitely the grilled octopus. It was so tender and almost melt in your mouth. We were blown away by how well it was cooked. For sure I would say if you are in the area and have a good amount of time please check this spot out and give yourself at least 3 hours to enjoy the meal because again we sat there laughing eating and talking with the people around us because it was that fantastic of a Time for roughly 3 hours.

They have a regular menu, a daily menu printed on the counter top, and they also do Take-Away. Their specialty is definitely their roasted chicken, which one can see cooking on spits at the entrance of the restatruant, conjuring such amazing smells that truly open up the appetite. The staff is sweet and did their best to serve me, with my English/Spanish and no Portugese self. Everything I ate was top-tier without being fancy. Simple and flavorful. I ordered a 1/2 chicken (way too much for me by myself) that came with batatas (french fries- which I didnt love), so I ordered a side of white rice and a salad, as well as what I would call a carafe of wine (it was definitely either two very healthy pours or 3 regular ones). All in all, I paid $15 euros, which I thought was a great value for all that I was given and how tasty everything was.
