    Homemade potato chips....

Out first night in Portugal and we were looking for something while out in our night time walk. I didn't expect the riverfront to have people telling you to come look at menus but it was a warm night in February and a lot of people were dining outside. We walked by Ribeira Square and the name sounded familiar bc I had read a few reviews of surrounding restaurants. We walked a little and felt overwhelmed so I walked back to ribeira square and sadly the last outdoor seating had just been taken. We went in and asked if we could have a table for 4. There was another dining room upstairs. The owner greeted up and asked us where we were from. We are American. Phillip was our waiter and he sat us upstairs. Handed us our menus and showed us the little buzzer we could buzz at any time to order or get him. We ordered white Sangria at first. Different from Sangria we are used to but it was refreshing and delicious. I then let Phillip choose a dry white wine for me and it was superb. We ordered the starter of tuna, olives, and olive oil which came with an assortment on delicious breads. We also ordered a "stuffed mushroom" but it was more like a queso dip with mushrooms and onions. Sooo good get that and dip your bread in it. Never had anything like it. Then we all were ready for these famous Porto francesinha sandwiches we were reading up about. We all got one. Every bit was eaten from each plate. Delicious. This sandwich was truly unique but very tasty. Philip was a wonderfully attentive and warm waiter. The next table was a French family. They asked Philip if he spoke French. Of course he did. The next table spoke Spanish and Philip spoke perfect Spanish to them. I know we are spoiled as Americans that so many people speak English when we travel. And I know Europeans are blessed to master multiple languages but, it is so smart to have a waiter like Philip in this touristy area. He made the experience just perfect for these tired travelers. This place is great!

Otimo! The food was amazing! I highly recommend the Francesinha, the local dish in Porto. The dish is a mix of comfort and happiness. The flavor is like home for the weary traveler. The owner and staff has been there for 10 years. You come to the door and you are greeted with a wonderful smile with romantic ambiance. It is a must eatery to try.

After eating at several places in Porto, this place is really a 4 star but I cannot modify the review as I started days ago. The wine and beer were good. Prices were high as the restaurant caters to tourists only. The shrimp pasta was good with garlic and a small amount of olive oil. The tuna was just okay. We ordered a bacon and cheese buchetta. The cheese was extremely strong and overwhelmed the bacon. The service was excellent and inside dining comfortable. A good choice if you are tired and the top choices are full.

A super friendly staff made this dining experience stand out. On a very busy Sunday we arrived without a reservation. Since it was somewhat early the waiter said we could have a table in 45 minutes. We decided to wait and he set us up outside on the monument steps across from the restaurant with our own cask for a table. We then spent the wait time drinking sangria and watching people. We also noted that dozens of people were turned away - so plan ahead and get a reservation. Once we got a table in the tiny downstairs room we ordered a meal of tapas. We tried the bruschetta and the smoke salmon - both were excellent. Our travel partners split the Porto specialty the Francesinha - a real gut buster but delicious. They also tried the fish soup which was tasty. Of course we tried some of the local wines - all were good. A great place for dinner but make a reservation so you are not disappointed!

An UNESCO historic site that is brimming with tourists, restaurants, and shops that borders the Douro river. Great for people watching.

We loved eating here, and lucked out with the last available table upstairs. The waitress was lovely and on top of things. The small upstairs dining room was packed with people from various countries and the food was lovely. It was conveniently located across the plaza from our hotel (love that) and the food was really good. We had a mixed salad --gotta get those greens, a chorizo sampler plate which came with a couple pieces of 3 different kinds of chorizo (loved the spicy one), batatas bravas, pimentos padron (shishito peppers) which were charred beautifully, sangria and decadent chocolate dessert and lime pie (I think it was key lime). Loved that the windows to outside were open and the atmosphere was jovial in general, with a wide age of patrons. I'd go here again for sure.

Food was AMAZING! It's a small place that makes you feel like you're having a relaxing dinner at a friend's house, which I loved. The staff is kind and service is suburb. Note if you're eating indoors, it can get warm so try to snag a table by the window upstairs or outside which had a great view of the river.

One word: wow. This place is actually fantastic. I came here because of the good reviews and was curious to see whether they held true. And they do. It checked all possible boxes. - Service: We had a great experience. Our waiter was very friendly and he brought out all of our food remarkably quickly. - Ambiance: Also notable. You really can't go wrong with some nice outdoor seating overlooking the river. - Food. This was the best part. Everything was just so fresh and thoughtfully prepared (no detail left unattended for). We ordered a wide range of tapas from the menu (plus dessert and coffee) and loved pretty much all of it. My favorites? The smoked salmon, maybe some of the freshest and best I've ever hard. Also, the bruschetta with smoked ham, it came with melted mozzarella and tasted like a fluffy, irresistible little pizza. Everything else was great - rose sangria pitcher was fruity and fun without being too sweet, bread bowl we ordered came with assorted bread + high-quality olive oil + fresh tuna salad, spicy potatoes came with a tangy sweet and spicy sauce (this one could be hit or miss depending on personal preference), creme brulee had a hint of lemon and was crackly and delicious, and coffee with milk was strong and high quality. I could probably do without the sausage platter, very small portion and only really enjoyed the chorizo (chicken sausage and blood sausage, not so much). Our waiter wrapped up the meal by giving us each a small shot glass of port wine. This place is hands-down a must go.

Great place to enjoy dinner near the river. The waiters were super friendly. We came here on a Monday night but couldn't get a table. We came back again on Tuesday night and got a table upstairs. The place itself was very small so inevitably it was crowded. But that added to more of a at-home feel, which fitted the general vibe of the restaurant. The food was amazing. The seafood rice and the steak were both excellent. I paired the steak with a port wine sauce, which was unique and delicious. The dinner ended with a complimentary shot of port wine. This was a great experience and I highly recommend anyone check out this restaurant!

We had just a perfect dinner at this place which we will never forget!!!

The focus here is on rotisserie chicken; they have other items but they're not the main event. It's very big inside, 2 stories and even early it's pretty busy. Other than that, my only other clear memory of that dinner is that it was very reasonably priced. If I were in the area again, I'd return in a heartbeat. Highly recommended.

As I came in on my own I opted for the one open stool at the counter. The restaurant was busy on a Monday early evening, about 5:30-6:00 pm-ish, with what felt like mostly locals. They have a regular menu, a daily menu printed on the counter top, and they also do Take-Away. Their specialty is definitely their roasted chicken, which one can see cooking on spits at the entrance of the restatruant, conjuring such amazing smells that truly open up the appetite. The staff is sweet and did their best to serve me, with my English/Spanish and no Portugese self. Everything I ate was top-tier without being fancy. Simple and flavorful. I ordered a 1/2 chicken (way too much for me by myself) that came with batatas (french fries- which I didnt love), so I ordered a side of white rice and a salad, as well as what I would call a carafe of wine (it was definitely either two very healthy pours or 3 regular ones). All in all, I paid $15 euros, which I thought was a great value for all that I was given and how tasty everything was.

We didn't have any problems with communication. It helped that they could speak in Spanish and my brother could speak it way better than me. The food was very good. All the flavors were spot on. All plates were wiped out. The ribeye, though, was not that tender. It was flavorful and the temperature was right, but it was quite chewy. So, if there is one dish that we wouldn't recommend, it's the ribeye. Everything else was great. The place is worth coming back to if you want your carnivore cravings to be satisfied.

Around noon, someone did show up briefly to post a sign out front saying they were going to be opening at 12:45 that day (I asked out of curiosity; sounds like it's *often* 12:30, but it's really mostly a "they'll open when they want to" kind of place.) I knew it'd be the sort of place that would fill up immediately, so I got back at 12:30. At least that day, it turns out they still had 1 table left after they sat everyone there before they opened - that last table got claimed at 1, 15 minutes later. It's not a large space, and word is out for good reason. Given it's not a large space, it was also easy for them to have excellent service, which they did. You could tell they were all passionate about the place, and again, for good reason - it was great. Definitely one of the best meals we ate on that trip. Between the two of us, we tried: Complimentary bread and olive oil. One OMG fantastic, wonderful fish soup. The sort of soup you'd want to eat every day if you could. Croquettes that were pretty good. Enjoyable enough, perfectly crispy, a little too salty. Not nearly as memorable as everything else. The seafood rice stew for 2 - a description I always question ("for 2"), but true in this case. It was quite large - and great. Excellent shrimp, which I'm picky about. I'm even pickier about shellfish (clams, mussels, etc). I was expecting to give my wife most of them, but I did *not* do that. They really know how to get and cook the best seafood here. The rice at the top of the stew wasn't anything particular to mention - filling, though, and warming for the drizzly day it'd been that morning. The rice at the *bottom* of the stew, that'd been slowly cooking in hot stew the whole time, was *very good*. :D Wine-wise, they have like a hundred bottles of wine by the whole bottom, some very expensive, some *surprisingly* reasonably priced, but we also didn't need a whole bottle of wine with lunch - by the glass, they just had one red and one white house wine (also solidly priced, though, for a place like this, 6 euros (Be way more than that in the US. I had the red with the stew - solid.) Also a handful of solid-looking ports by the glass, one of which I had with dessert, a reserva tawny for 6.50 euros. After eating the stew, my wife tapped out. I was also pretty full, but I'd spent a lot of effort getting here and I was *gonna* have dessert, darn it. Had what was basically just a whole roasted stewed apple, cooked down until it turned to pudding. Super good. Went really well with a reserva tawny port. This place was great.

Luckily for us the restaurant was only half full so there was no need to wait (weekday at 3pm). Odd hours for popular restaurants worked out the best for us on this trip. Inside there were just 8 tables so I can see why this place usually sees long lines outside. It was quite cozy. Menu was straightforward with appetizers, seafood and from the country (aka meat). The octopus rice was so good. The strips of sliced octopus were very tender and the flavors of this dish were delicious. It was comforting on that cold and rainy afternoon. The salt crusted seabass selection was delivered the with flare all covered in flames. Our server ignored the flames and proceeded to crack open the salt crust, fillet and debone the fish. Full service! The fish was meaty and perfectly cooked. The side of potatoes and broccoli was addicting and I normally don't eat a lot of potatoes. We skipped dessert but the menu was tempting. Besides the fish service it would've been nice to have a bit more proactive attention from our server. When we requested our check, she pointed out that out that tipping was not included and waited until we completed the transaction. Would return for the food next time in Porto.
