Definitely recommend making a reservation, I found it impressive that the hostess's reservation system was essentially a notebook and pen in this digital age. We did not see much of our waiter, since the restaurant was extremely busy and filled up with diners. Standouts: 1. Razor clams - I'll always get these if I see it on the menu. Cooked in this incredible garlic sauce. 2. Fish and seafood cataplana - delicious, tomato-forward seafood stew; I liked the version that we had the night before more which came with rice and was more filling. But this was basically a never-ending bowl of fish, clams, mussels, and shrimp. This is inside the train station and the line stretched out so far. The inside had a fair amount of seating which is good because it seemed very popular! The waitstaff was really nice which I found unusual because most of the waitstaff I've encountered so far in Portugal wasn't as friendly and warm. The duck magnet was also very good - duck was cured and cooked well; the duck maintained a meaty flavor which was balanced by the sweetness of the carrots and acidity of the sauces. The mushroom risotto complemented the duck nicely, offering creaminess and cheesiness to the meat and vegetables. It's amazing when you can find an absolutely gem in the city you don't know and it makes you feel like a local and that's what this place is. The staff if they aren't all actual family definitely act like it it was refreshing to see locals with children and people in there and hanging out and simply enjoying a meal and time with one another. And it goes without saying if your group of more than two you should make reservations they do a great job about seating too at the bar area which is where we sat and it was fantastic even more interaction with the wonderful staff. They spoke multiple languages which is always helpful. We had a bartender / waiter who made us a special drink which was outstanding with Port and tonic!!! One of our favorite meals in Portugal with delicious vegetarian options! Make a reservation if you can. You'll have to email them to make the reservation and confirm the day before. Otherwise you have to wait in line. I made reservations for Wednesday dinner at 7 pm, right when they open for dinner. The restaurant is a bit hidden, but it's in the Sao Bento station right next to the platform. We each ordered two tapas for ourselves. My friend got two vegetarian plates and I got two meat/seafood plates. I had tiger shrimp sauteed with garlic (€27.90) and alheira croquettes (€7.50). My friend got the tortilla (€8) and the vegetable gyoza (€10). I liked my food, but I thought the vegetarian tapas were the star of the show. The tortilla may be the best tortilla I've ever had (and if not, it's definitely up there), and the vegan ponzu sauce for the gyoza was divine. In comparison, my food was solid but didn't blow my mind like the two veggie dishes did. I did think the portion of shrimp for the price was a bit disappointing, since there were only 7 shrimp on the plate. My favorite restaurant I ate at during my ten days in Portugal. Delicious food and excellent service! I was a bit wary at coming here because of the popularity with tourists and the huge line out of the door. I tried to book a reservation a week in advance via email but was told that their bookings were full, and to come when they open for lunch or dinner. The first time I tried to come for dinner, I arrived at 7PM (when they open) and the line was already down the block. I waited for 20min before leaving. The next day, I told myself I would arrive 30min before their lunch opening. For lunch, I was the first in line! The kind owner even unlocked the restaurant and let me and my mother sit inside :) an excellent act of hospitality. I tried the following and ranked them from favorite to least favorite: Peanut Foam -- SO DELICIOUS. You must get this dessert! Perfect balance of ice cream and toffee and peanut flavors Angus Steak -- the best steak I've had in all of Portugal. Beautiful cook. Oxtail Dumplings Wild Shrimp Sautéed in Garlic Salmon Ceviche -- just okay. The chips were a big soggy and the salmon quality wasn't spectacular. I wish there was more salmon and less chips! I would come back again and again just for the peanut foam! I noticed that a lot of the fibers were Korean tourists and almost all of them ordered a dish that is a pot of steamed seafood. People without a res said they had waited more than an hour! Yikes. For food, it is reasonably priced for quality this high. The dishes are filling but on the smaller side. Salmon ceviche is so fresh, delicious. The fried rice is also a recommend, but the star was the irish steak. It is one of the top 5 best steaks I have ever had. So so good. I was very fortunate to land a bar reso at 830 on a Saturday. Dont become discouraged when trying to find the entrance, its through the train station hidden to the left. There are many port and wine offerings so I had a half carafe of cabernet. For food I had steamed oxtail dumplings and sauteed mushroom focacia. The dumplings were 4 portion served in broth with scallion garnish. Very savory. The focaccia was overflowing with crispy mushroom and arugula. The bread was perfect to carry all the toppings. The food that comes out of this small kitchen is simply delicious! We were hungry, so we tried several small items starting with Tuna Tataki and Salmon Ceviche, and everything after that was a blare!
