    Roast veal

Lunch and admittedly a gastronomic tour group stop, but fabulous! Our lunch, a two hours sampling some of their best. The little tastes, tuna pate and fresh bread served in the cutest sack were indications of great things to come. The roast veal and clams were stellar!

Oh my oh my! think gumbo minus sausage and okra. Nawlins meets Portuguese!

Our hotel recommended this place. Maybe because of proximity to hotel; literally next door, maybe they have a wink wink arrangement, maybe both. Who cares! Very authentic, rustic Portuguese cuisine, where you can take your time, soak in the vibe of Porto the smell of authentic coastal Portuguese fare while marveling at the efficiency, of a very small wait staff who effortlessly dance between tables with ease, experience and panache. I was pretty hungry but even though we shared an entree, we couldn't come close to finish what looked like an order for 10 people! The seafood stew, sorry forgot the name, was gynormous! Seriously... I don't have but one pot that big at home and anything in it would feed a family of 10! For my YEE pals in SF Bay Area to imagine Cioppino meets gumbo! Portuguese Seafood stew of shrimp, clams, mussels, prawns and a couple of something that looked and tasted like crawfish. Oh meu Deus!!! We both had two bowls full and barely put a dent in that sucka! A little dessert of banana pudding, an expresso and poof... a twenty step walk back to the hotel and off to boo boo dream land we go; full, warm and as content as a baby in a warm swaddle held by momma bear. The banana pudding was a cross between tiramisu and... banana pudding! The expresso didn't need sugar... You folks who know me... I'm never at a loss for words... I'm .....gobsmacked!

Excellent restaurant tucked away on a small side street adjacent to the Douro River in Porto. Menu is a mix of traditional Portuguese food and other international cuisine. Quality of the food is very very good and portion size is quite large, especially considering the price, where you can easily split an entree between two people. For our first meal here we had a veal entrée, salmon entrée, steak entree and cod entree. All the entree's came with multiple sides of which some were traditional Portuguese sides. The food in all cases were well made, and very tasty. We're all four of us were quite happy with our meals. The restaurant itself has a traditional decor and is very comfortable. A great place to have a meal and enjoy the surrounding environment. The staff was super friendly and helpful with the menu as well. Overall an excellent upscale dining experience at a very reasonable cost. This is a Restaurant not to be missed If you are in the Porto area and for us personally it, was the best meal we have had while here!

    Chicken Franga

Everything from the service, ambience, to food makes this an amazing spot in Porto! Food: we ordered the meat pie, the Francesinha, and the chicken franga and everything was so delicious! The meat pie was more of a meat bread, that had a biscuit like quality! The Francesinha was extremely flavorful and large, I'd recommend getting 1 for like 3 people. It's a bit overwhelming with all the meat, cheese, and bread. The chicken franga was my favorite! I loved the avocado spread it came with. Ambience: the spot is larger than the outside let's in the decor of this place is very inviting! Service: great service Price: very reasonable especially given the portion sizes

My wife and I were here as part of a Gate1 tour, with lunch as part of an Optional River Cruise. Postigo do Carvã is close to the Douro River, with a lot of local specialty foods. Lots of appetizers. One entrée dish was cod with string potatoes. Another was crispy roast chicken. To me, it was fine, though the appetizers were yummy. Dessert was something similar to a Turimasu. Service was very good

    Grilled sea bass

We loved this place so much that we came back the next night because there were too many wonderful dishes to order. In the first night we ordered the lamb and the duck dishes. Both were fabulous and delicious. We saw others order a flaming chorizo that looked like such a fun dish to get but were too full. So we came back the next night and ordered the flaming chorizo and the grilled sea bass. Again, both delish. The staff, especially George and Silvia took great care of us. Make sure to book a reservation though.

    Baked code-potato dish

Very nice place that feels family style (although it is not really). We had fish roe salad as an appetizer and shared a code-potato dish. It was really big and really good. All in all the place feels like a real local experience with great food, which is not identical to all the usual touristy dishes. The service was friendly and attentive. The whole experience was pleasant enough for us to come here for a second time during our short stay in Porto.

After having a wonderful Octopus dish across the river the night before, we decided to go back at it the following night. This spot was a hidden gem on the north side of the Rio Duoro nearby the waterfront. The servers were quite funny and the service spectacular. Pro tip - grabbing the first reservation of the night will save any headaches from waiting for a seat or for your food! The seafood stew with rice was incredibly tasty and filled to the brim with seafood, and the roasted octopus featured all kinds of potatoes and veggies as well. Overall, we once again had another spectacular meal in Porto and will definitely be back!

Excellent meal. Walk up past the tourist traps along the river and you will not only save money but have a tastier meal. We have nothing negative to say. Started with caldo verde and a green salad and sangria. Entrees were baked octopus (the best ever) and steak with mushroom sauce. Excellent. Chose the banana pudding for dessert and it did not disappoint....all this plus a bottle of water, a coffee and an after dinner drink fur 65 euros. Coming from the US, that's a bargain. The interior of the restaurant is so unique too!

Bacalhao with a corn crust. Delicious and good portion. They known how to cook the cod. The place is bussy.

They have a regular menu, a daily menu printed on the counter top, and they also do Take-Away. Their specialty is definitely their roasted chicken, which one can see cooking on spits at the entrance of the restatruant, conjuring such amazing smells that truly open up the appetite. The staff is sweet and did their best to serve me, with my English/Spanish and no Portugese self. Everything I ate was top-tier without being fancy. Simple and flavorful. I ordered a 1/2 chicken (way too much for me by myself) that came with batatas (french fries- which I didnt love), so I ordered a side of white rice and a salad, as well as what I would call a carafe of wine (it was definitely either two very healthy pours or 3 regular ones). All in all, I paid $15 euros, which I thought was a great value for all that I was given and how tasty everything was.

There were two other groups before us that were sat pretty quickly within 15 minutes or so. During the time we were waiting the hostess was extremely friendly and kept giving us updates on when the table was going to be ready and was making light conversation with us as we waited. When we finally got seated you could tell that the servers were definitely busy trying to get everyone's food and drinks out and so the same hostess came to us and said don't worry I'll take your order for you and told us the things that were the most popular which from my pictures we basically got everything she said LOL. And we were not disappointed with the food that we chose. Now we know why they are considered the house specialties. The flavors of the potato fish cheesy goodness dish I cannot remember the name of it was just so warm and comforting. I was worried about a fishiness coming through when you took different bites but no all the flavor is harmonized well with each other. The tuna salad that they made was extremely fresh and again was pleasantly surprised that though it was fish the spices and bread/butter combo that came with it really didn't give any fishiness. It was also well balanced. Now I will say though those other dishes were amazing our favorite hands down was definitely the grilled octopus. It was so tender and almost melt in your mouth. We were blown away by how well it was cooked. For sure I would say if you are in the area and have a good amount of time please check this spot out and give yourself at least 3 hours to enjoy the meal because again we sat there laughing eating and talking with the people around us because it was that fantastic of a Time for roughly 3 hours.
