    Croquettes of all sort

Restaurante Traça was the best meal we had in Porto. This neighborhood restaurant was packed even for 9PM. Reservation are definitely recommended here, as the space is tiny and guests are packed in quite close. To say it's cozy would be an understatement. The cod croquettes were an excellent way to start. The Porto version was slightly different than in Lisbon but at the core, deep fried seafood with a crispy batter. We got the steak for two, and it was more than generous. The meat quality in Portugal is top shelf, and this place was no exception. The meat was simply seasoned with salt but cooked to perfection. The fries matched well with richness of the meat. The panna cotta dessert alone is reason to visit/come back. It was so well executed that we were fighting over the last bite. I love quaint, unpretentious restaurants like Traça because of the laid back vibes and clientele who came for a good time and a great meal. If you want to experience Porto like the locals, this is the place.

Seriously terrific food here. Lovely presentation and delicious flavors! Even the couvert (bread and some spicy butter stuff) was really good. The ambiance is intimate and romantic, and moderately bustling, as nearly all the tables filled up for lunch. I was here during the low season, just after Christmas, but there seemed to be mostly upscale locals, plus a few possible tourists, hard to tell. I had the appetizer with blood sausage, fried egg, sautéed onions/peppers on a bed of crispy fried potatoes. Basically, for me, a typical American brunch combination, but with blood sausage. Of course, most meat/potatoes things are better with egg yolk on them and this was no exception. After that was the deer filet topped with a generous portion of foie gras, with mushrooms and shoestring potatoes. They didn't ask me my preference for how to make, but the deer filet was made rare, which was my preference anyway. Great textures and flavors here. All in all, one of my best meals in Portugal. €€€ food presentation and flavors and ambiance, but with the unpretentious casualness of service and prices of a €€ restaurant. That whole meal, including water and bread was €31.50, by the way. Bathrooms: The usual European small size, but modern, clean, and well-maintained. Only one each for men and women.

Deer loin with foie gras in a mushroom sauce with crispy "shoestring" potatoes.

Fine food at reasonable prices. I had the deer loin topped with foie gras. It was incredibly soft and moist and delicious. Appetizers were croquettes made soft by béchamel and studded with prosciutto made from cow and pig. The house red was lovely and the dessert fabulous. Service was welcoming and the busy waitress was happy to describe the cooking, which suggests a pride in the restaurant's kitchen. The restaurant is located just off the pedestrian-only Largo de Sao Domingos, with a dining room that is multi-level, intimate, and charming in the Porto way. I arrived at opening and the restaurant soon filled up for dinner. Traça is on my return list!

This place should be on every Portuguese food lover's list. Conveniently located in the Main Square surrounded by many other eateries, it has both indoor and al fresco dining options. The menu is compact but formidable. Sitting out we enjoyed the food accompanied by great people watching. My chicken and potato stew topped with a fried egg was absolutely delicious. A huge serving served in a pan which I consumed every last bit of. The service was equally good: a young local man with a great sense of humor.

Oh my god. Town of Porto truly delivers on the food scene in this is a schoolbook example. For starters, well it was a bit too fried for my taste which is why this spot is getting a 4 instead of 5. One starter was some deep fried pork which surely was delicious but it was just to plain and repetitive with the same flavor for the whole plate. Then comes the main(s). First, venison with fois gras and some crispy, curly fries. For someone who doesn't enjoy fries, this was perfect as it was merely just a crispy surface instead of filling deep fried potato pieces. The venison with the creamy fois gras was just phenomenal, an interesting combo I've never been close to tasting before. Next we shared some bacalou (cod), which was equally well prepared as the meat, and well seasoned. We weren't able to fit dessert as at this point we just had enough. Wine, waitress, and vibe equally spot on. It's on my list for next I'm back in Porto.

Stopped at Traca my first (rainy) night in Porto and could not have been more pleased. The Cesina salad was to die for. From the cesina to the raisins and not to forget the goat cheese on top which was the icing on the cake!! Sangria was super good (one of the best in Porto) and a special shout out to Wilson for the great service. Will definitely be back!!!

White, milk and dark chocolate mousse pie. So good.

My wife and I had the hotel concierge booked us a table for NYE a month before our arrival in Porto. It was our first time in Porto and at the Restaurante Traca. As it was NYE and the place was packed, they had us booked in the smoking section, we asked them if they can move us, they quickly accomodated our request even after they already sat us. The Prix Fixe menu for the NYE was lovely and delicious. The staff was friendly and very attentive. Always letting us know to let them know when we wanted each course served. There was no rush. We had a wonderful and will definite return the next time we are in Porto.

As I came in on my own I opted for the one open stool at the counter. The restaurant was busy on a Monday early evening, about 5:30-6:00 pm-ish, with what felt like mostly locals. They have a regular menu, a daily menu printed on the counter top, and they also do Take-Away. Their specialty is definitely their roasted chicken, which one can see cooking on spits at the entrance of the restatruant, conjuring such amazing smells that truly open up the appetite. The staff is sweet and did their best to serve me, with my English/Spanish and no Portugese self. Everything I ate was top-tier without being fancy. Simple and flavorful. I ordered a 1/2 chicken (way too much for me by myself) that came with batatas (french fries- which I didnt love), so I ordered a side of white rice and a salad, as well as what I would call a carafe of wine (it was definitely either two very healthy pours or 3 regular ones). All in all, I paid $15 euros, which I thought was a great value for all that I was given and how tasty everything was.

There were two other groups before us that were sat pretty quickly within 15 minutes or so. During the time we were waiting the hostess was extremely friendly and kept giving us updates on when the table was going to be ready and was making light conversation with us as we waited. When we finally got seated you could tell that the servers were definitely busy trying to get everyone's food and drinks out and so the same hostess came to us and said don't worry I'll take your order for you and told us the things that were the most popular which from my pictures we basically got everything she said LOL. And we were not disappointed with the food that we chose. Now we know why they are considered the house specialties. The flavors of the potato fish cheesy goodness dish I cannot remember the name of it was just so warm and comforting. I was worried about a fishiness coming through when you took different bites but no all the flavor is harmonized well with each other. The tuna salad that they made was extremely fresh and again was pleasantly surprised that though it was fish the spices and bread/butter combo that came with it really didn't give any fishiness. It was also well balanced. Now I will say though those other dishes were amazing our favorite hands down was definitely the grilled octopus. It was so tender and almost melt in your mouth. We were blown away by how well it was cooked. For sure I would say if you are in the area and have a good amount of time please check this spot out and give yourself at least 3 hours to enjoy the meal because again we sat there laughing eating and talking with the people around us because it was that fantastic of a Time for roughly 3 hours.
