Pastry counter

Excellent bakery and coffee shop located in the heart of Porto, The pastries are very well made where my Almond croissant was light and flaky with wonderful Almond notes. My Coffee Americano was full bodied with great aromatics and wonderful flavor. This has become a regular morning stop for me where this type of quality is hard to come by in the states and and I want to experience it every day while here before returning to the states Five stars in my book! Note - this is a popular business where lines form early and if your looking for a seat inside its best to get there when they open at 7:30am. Ok

Portuguese pastries and fresh squeezed orange juice

Great selection of Portuguese pastries. You really feel like a local in here. Freshly squeezed orange juice available. Espresso drinks also available. Quick service and plenty of tables to eat inside.

No one ever picked up the phone, no luck online. We walked up and got lucky on the early side of dinner as we were willing to squeeze into a too small table. Worth it.

Around noon, someone did show up briefly to post a sign out front saying they were going to be opening at 12:45 that day (I asked out of curiosity; sounds like it's *often* 12:30, but it's really mostly a "they'll open when they want to" kind of place.) I knew it'd be the sort of place that would fill up immediately, so I got back at 12:30. At least that day, it turns out they still had 1 table left after they sat everyone there before they opened - that last table got claimed at 1, 15 minutes later. It's not a large space, and word is out for good reason. Given it's not a large space, it was also easy for them to have excellent service, which they did. You could tell they were all passionate about the place, and again, for good reason - it was great. Definitely one of the best meals we ate on that trip. Between the two of us, we tried: Complimentary bread and olive oil. One OMG fantastic, wonderful fish soup. The sort of soup you'd want to eat every day if you could. Croquettes that were pretty good. Enjoyable enough, perfectly crispy, a little too salty. Not nearly as memorable as everything else. The seafood rice stew for 2 - a description I always question ("for 2"), but true in this case. It was quite large - and great. Excellent shrimp, which I'm picky about. I'm even pickier about shellfish (clams, mussels, etc). I was expecting to give my wife most of them, but I did *not* do that. They really know how to get and cook the best seafood here. The rice at the top of the stew wasn't anything particular to mention - filling, though, and warming for the drizzly day it'd been that morning. The rice at the *bottom* of the stew, that'd been slowly cooking in hot stew the whole time, was *very good*. :D Wine-wise, they have like a hundred bottles of wine by the whole bottom, some very expensive, some *surprisingly* reasonably priced, but we also didn't need a whole bottle of wine with lunch - by the glass, they just had one red and one white house wine (also solidly priced, though, for a place like this, 6 euros (Be way more than that in the US. I had the red with the stew - solid.) Also a handful of solid-looking ports by the glass, one of which I had with dessert, a reserva tawny for 6.50 euros. After eating the stew, my wife tapped out. I was also pretty full, but I'd spent a lot of effort getting here and I was *gonna* have dessert, darn it. Had what was basically just a whole roasted stewed apple, cooked down until it turned to pudding. Super good. Went really well with a reserva tawny port. This place was great.

Fantastic experience, totally worth it, in the tourist area but not touristy…read more TLDR Strolling around, wanting a break from the hills, we wanted seafood and close. I looked up LSD and we headed for it. Our immediate inclination was to sit outside and my friend approached a member of staff. He brusquely told my buddy that we would have to talk to the manager. Everyone was moving quickly and the outside was pretty full. The manager came over and said it would be at least a 45minute wait. After the curtness of the initial contact and the wait time, we paused. I asked about seating inside and the manager said he was short staffed asked if we were in a hurry. I said we didn't mind waiting if we could have drinks. He said for sure and sat us in the cool of the inside. We ordered a pitcher of sangria; he recommended the special which was light and refreshing. Delicious! The pictures show everything we ordered and there was not a single disappointment in the bunch. One note, the white fish and rose shrimp crude is a cold dish; very light, refreshing and full of flavor. As we were about to order dessert, we saw them serve the smoked salmon to another table and since more than one of us had been eyeing it, we ordered one. So glad we did. All the desserts were perfect. We also had a nice white wine and a pair of old fashioneds to round out the meal. The staff were moving throughout and it was the best dining experience we had in Porto! Highly recommended.

The service was good as well. Recommend making a reservation in advance - ceviche: a great appetizer. Refreshing yet flavorful - shrimp risotto: it was my husband's menu. We had high hopes for this restaurant after it was recommended by our hotel.  I think the place…read moregets a lot of hotel-referred traffic as the side street located restaurant was full tourists.  The cramped quarters are fine and it will give you the NYC village feel. We liked the creativity of the menu and some of the chances they took with ingredients.  When service is slow and unsteady, it always impacts the experience and the way the food can be enjoyed.  Waiving down waiters for drinks is always a buzz kill before a buzz,  as is watching diners arrive later and get theirs first.   The tuna tartare was fresh and tasty when it did show up. I am not a big capers fan so i was pleasantly surprised when it had none.  The crunchy rice strings added some  texture and made the presentation at the table a photo shot (not shown here). I was slow before they mixed it table-side with a fresh quail egg.  I had high hopes for the shrimp dish.  The presentation was great but the tiny shrimp were overwhelmed by the crunchy, but oil soaked outside shell.  Maybe we drew a bad batch.  The sea bass was sad.  When a fish is served skin side up it needs to be crispy and ours was soggy and tasteless.  We love pasta so were hoping the tortelloni would save the dish. It did not but could have. One of them had unfolded and they were too al dente. The price to servicing size to quality were off balance.  There were other dishes that may have been better but we will not know since we would venture to other places before we returned.

We ordered a few tapas to share: croquets de alheira and croquets de codfish. Both were so good! We loved it. The star of the show though was the pork neck tacos! They were so delicious! So much flavor and perfect. I got the lemonade and it was just okay. Nothing special. Overall, would 100% recommend this place! Definitely recommend making a reservation, I found it impressive that the hostess's reservation system was essentially a notebook and pen in this digital age. We did not see much of our waiter, since the restaurant was extremely busy and filled up with diners. Standouts: 1. Razor clams - I'll always get these if I see it on the menu. Cooked in this incredible garlic sauce. 2. Fish and seafood cataplana - delicious, tomato-forward seafood stew; I liked the version that we had the night before more which came with rice and was more filling. But this was basically a never-ending bowl of fish, clams, mussels, and shrimp. Add to that the fact that the restaurant like most in Porto did not have A/C and I emerged feeling like I had been sitting in a sauna. Skipped dessert; I had my eye on the Weeel! froyo truck parked outside. One more nit - the metal chairs are not comfortable at all for sitting a long time in.
