    Garlic Prego

I hate sandwiches. But this, this I can everyday for the rest of my life. Portuguese steak sandwich. Heaven. Pregar is a small cute bar - a variety of pregos (I got garlic) and burgers, with a great selection of beer, wines, including ports.

This place was awesome. Had our first meal in Porto here and it was a great way to start, the sangria was delicious, and the steak sandwiches were phenomenal. We got the classic and I believe the Serra with the soft cheese and both were divine. The service was fast and friendly. If we had stayed in the city longer, we would definitely be back again!

This restaurant specializes in steak sandwiches and there is an endless option to choose from. I started with their apple cider and it was super refreshing and crisp. For an appetizer, we got the mini zucchini rolls with salmon and ricotta - the zucchini tasted super fresh and mustard paired with it perfectly. I got the garlic sandwich and loved how tender the meat and crunchy the bread was. The restaurant was not too large but it was decently packed during lunch and the servers were making sure we were attended for the whole time. It is worth checking out if you want a steak sandwich or check out the Francesinha - a popular sandwich that was created in Porto!

Food was okay, tasted good but not great. $11 for a plain sandwich without a side was kind of too much. Service was very good, our waiter Ruth was awesome. Place was nice and they play lovely music.

The Francesinha was very delicious here! I recommend ordering fries to soak up the sauce with. The service was also excellent and the staff made some very good recommendations for drinks.

My wife was feeling a bit under the weather and was wanting some soup and fries and instead of going to the golden arches I found this place. I thought a burger was sounding pretty good tonight as well after a week of eating local in Portugal. Very small place but efficient use of space. Nicely decorated with these old food trays all over the ceiling. Service was very good and not overwhelming or too un-attentive either. I ordered the classic burger and fries and my wife got the vegetable soup. She said the soup was just ok, mostly beans and cabbage. But I cannot believe I am about to say this, but the burger was the best burger I have had in a longtime anywhere and I am in the middle of Porto in Portugal! Cooked perfectly, just the way I asked (pink in the middle) and the tomatoes, bacon, lettuce, mayonnaise and a super soft brioche bun. It was just a fantastic burger, and the fries were great as well. If we make it back I will try either the cod sandwich or one of their steak sandwiches. Highly recommend if you are looking for something not quite as Portugal as most restaurants in Portugal.

OMG, one of the best steak sandwiches of my life. This place seems to get really busy so I suggest going at off eating times - we went at 6pm for dinner and luckily there were 2 tables left. We ordered the garlic and the cheese, steaks were cooked medium rare and seasoned perfectly on a soft bun. The garlic was very garlicky and there was a little bit of veggies inside which was nice. Our waiter said that was the best one! The cheese he said was second best so we ordered that. As a cheese lover it was so delicious - perfectly melted and stringy Portuguese cheese. We had our sandwiches with a side of green wine and fries. They gave us lots of choices for sauces to go with our fries which was nice. Friendly and helpful staff. Not much seating on the first floor, wasn't sure if there was a second. It does feel a little cramped inside, FYI.

Pragar! Porto My fave cozy bistro Nextdoor to my airbnb. Friendly service from all the team- you look up and someone will assist. Had a few tastes of port and for lunch a steak sandwich with fries. Fresh, hot and tasty! Glad I found this place. Came by twice. Second time it was packed so I took it to go- it was suggested to call for a reservation. Great service both times!

This beef sandwich (francesinha) is pretty big so consider sharing it between two people! The steak is pretty tender but a mouthful. I expected the sauce to be like tomato soup but it tasted much more flavorful and complex than a simple tomato-based sauce. It was a little salty and became a little much for me towards the end. The rest of the menu also houses some gems: salad and tuna tataki. These really helped to balance out some of the sandwich. They also have Super Bock on tap to round out your meal!

One of the best sandwiches I've ever had, anywhere! Prégar is known for traditional Portuguese steak sandwiches - it's a small place with a friendly, casual atmosphere. I had a classic sandwich and was blown away - this wasn't chewy, gristly thinly sliced steak. At all. This was a thick, premium cut of meat with no fat or gristle. It was served perfectly medium rare on a beautiful crusty roll and was so delicious and tender. We also had fries which came with 4 tasty dipping sauces (horseradish Mayo was my favorite) and the gents had big beers. They serve all day, the prices are really reasonable (under €10) and staff is really nice. We are a lot of great food in Portugal and this ranks up there as one of my favorite stops.

The prego here wow! Definitely worth a stop by if you're in Porto. There is no outdoor area to sit but to also sit inside, at the time you need to provide a negative Covid antigen test or your vaccination card. The prego meat is cooked to yourmedium and cooked very well. The prego was perfect and I also ordered a side of fries. The combination plus a glass of wine was a perfect dinner! Definitely recommend coming here, so good and service was superb! I would definitely come here again next time I'm in Porto!

These pregos sandwiches are so good that we had them three times in a week. The cook on the meat is beautiful. You can see everything freshly made in the kitchen. Their staff is really nice, the side sauces are great with the fries. Highly recommend as a gem in an otherwise fairly tourist area.

Absolutely refreshing and well worth it. Seating was a bit of a challenge since there was no space inside, but we made it work outside and thankfully, the heaters kept us warm. So far, so good. Unfortunately, the service completely changed the tone of our visit. The woman taking our order was not just unfriendly. She was outright disrespectful! When my friend misplaced her ticket (we still had the number and were being cooperative), she asked politely if it would be okay. Instead of responding with basic courtesy, the employee made a scene and said in Spanish, "para la próxima guarda tu puto ticket." What she didn't realize is that we also speak Spanish. There was absolutely no reason for that level of hostility over such a minor situation. It turned what should have been a simple, enjoyable meal into an uncomfortable experience. We came here just to enjoy good food and while the food delivered, the service left a lasting impression for all the wrong reasons. I truly hope no one else has to experience that kind of treatment.

The best bifana sandwich in town…read more Conga in Porto is renowned for their bifana sandwich. This is a classic pork sandwich with thin slices of marinated pork served in warm Portuguese roll bread. This introductory dine-in meal was coincidentally the most memorable meal of our trip. We came on a weekday for lunch and was seated shortly on their busy 2nd floor interior. The shredded pork slices were so tender and flavorful having been simmered to soak up all of the spice seasoning the marinade in the large pan for staff to pose with at the storefront. You can watch as the staff skewer out the meat in between the bread. The soft pillowy papo seco bread melted with the meat and was dunked in the spicy pork sauce for extra flavour. We paired this bifana sandwich (3.60 EUR) with their refreshing iced tea and a classic papas stew (3.50 EUR). The stew mixed minced pork & chicken in cornmeal thickened with pork blood. The seasoning made this surprisingly appetizing without much gamey flavour. Our only regret was not ordering more bifana sandwich instead while assuming other shops could be comparable. Simply put, this bifana sandwich was so savoury and none of the other famous shops we visited later ended up coming close. In fact even a Porto local whom we bumped into at a famous bifana sandwich spot in Lisbon flat out said Conga was better and she was right. You're not here for the service but a quick tasty bite. Skip it or hit it? Conga is worth the hype and you have to dine-in or takeout this sandwich!

I'm very glad we stopped here while we were in Porto. I'm also glad we managed to find two *seats* together - the place is tiny, and well-attended. It's a bit cramped if you're dining in, but worth it (assuming you can find a seat.) I was also spoiled after the first fried cheese-dog arrived like 2 minutes after ordering it, despite it being so busy - the pica pao took a longer time (not an unreasonably long time), as did the second cachorrinho I decided I needed to get even though I wasn't *terribly* hungry after sharing the first two items, cause it was so good, and I knew I wouldn't be back any time soon, if ever (was fine by me, as I was also enjoying trying a bunch of Portuguese spirits for cheap - 3.5 euro for a decently large glass of ginja, 3-5 euro for various Portuguese brandies... they thought I was weird ordering a large glass of ginja, but it goes *so* well with the salty deep fried food served here.) Cachorrinhos are super unhealthy obviously, being basically a fried hot dog stuffed with cheese, but excellent, totally worth the roughly 5 bucks. The pica pau Americo was also a pretty good value, as a "small" is... not small. I figured I should try both of the things they were most known for - the pica pau was great too, but if I were ever back, I'd probably just stuff my face with wonderful fried crispy cheese dogs.

When we finally got seated you could tell that the servers were definitely busy trying to get everyone's food and drinks out and so the same hostess came to us and said don't worry I'll take your order for you and told us the things that were the most popular which from my pictures we basically got everything she said LOL. And we were not disappointed with the food that we chose. Now we know why they are considered the house specialties. The flavors of the potato fish cheesy goodness dish I cannot remember the name of it was just so warm and comforting. I was worried about a fishiness coming through when you took different bites but no all the flavor is harmonized well with each other. The tuna salad that they made was extremely fresh and again was pleasantly surprised that though it was fish the spices and bread/butter combo that came with it really didn't give any fishiness. It was also well balanced. Now I will say though those other dishes were amazing our favorite hands down was definitely the grilled octopus. It was so tender and almost melt in your mouth. We were blown away by how well it was cooked. For sure I would say if you are in the area and have a good amount of time please check this spot out and give yourself at least 3 hours to enjoy the meal because again we sat there laughing eating and talking with the people around us because it was that fantastic of a Time for roughly 3 hours.

The staff is sweet and did their best to serve me, with my English/Spanish and no Portugese self. Everything I ate was top-tier without being fancy. Simple and flavorful.
