Came here for lunch on a Sunday after a day of sight seeing and walking around Porto. We actually arrived at 12 noon (time it says on Yelp) but they actually opened for business at 12:15 pm. We saw the two waiters come to the street and picked up a few bags of rolls that was delivered and likely for their sandwiches they planned on serving for the day. Word about this must be going around since besides me and my wife, there were 2 other group of people waiting for them to open. Pregar is definitely a small restaurant with only 8 tables inside and 4 tables outside. Their menu was separated by language and our waitress opened it on the English menu. My wife just had soup and I ordered the Serra (Portuguese steak with cheese) on a roll. The price was just for the burger and so I added the fries which came on a dipping side (they had sweet chili, horse radish mayo, ketchup) just to name a few. We actually had the sweet chili and later the horse radish mayo to try. So the steak sandwich I had was Medium (they ask how you want it cooked and went with how the Portuguese like their steaks.) It was a simple no frills sandwich. Just steak. Melted cheese on a roll. The bread was soft and complimented the meat in a 1-1 ratio which I like. Sometimes with a burger, you have more bread with a small burger in the middle. The Serra was 12 euro and thought that was a fair price for a steak sandwich. Overall, I'd give the Serra 4 stars. Service was wonderful and our waitress was attentive and helpful with her suggestions on the steak sandwich to go with. 5 stars. Overall, it was a great lunch and we enjoyed being one of the first ones to dine that day. By the time we were about to finish, more patrons were coming in to eat. This place has been getting love from YouTubers, trip advisor, and yelp. We decided to try this place out and we were not disappointed. The restaurant is intimate and isn't too big but that doesn't take away from its charm. The folks that work there speak Spanish, Portuguese, and English. Everyone was super friendly. The wife and I came in around 6pm. For those who don't know, the Portuguese typically eat later like at 730 or 8pm. We were able to swoop in but the line definitely got longer and they started to turn folks away. We ordered the cheeseboard, traditional sandwich and the Picanha. Holy criminy was it good...like all of it was good. Good flavor, good seasoning, good portions...I've got no complaints. The traditional was tender and just a heads up, it comes out seared on the outside and rare on the inside so if you wanted it cooked a little longer you may want to ask them. Sometimes you get sucked into these places by fake reviews and influencers upselling a store. I can reassure you that this place is legit. For an appetizer, we got the mini zucchini rolls with salmon and ricotta - the zucchini tasted super fresh and mustard paired with it perfectly. By far the absolute best meal (s) that I had in Porto! I saw the rave reviews and decided to give it a whirl. Now, this is a very small place with about 10 tables upstairs (mainly for 2 people) and 4 tables downstairs (for up to 4). There was a wait at 21:30, about 15 mins, I timed it well. Sit down and immediately order vinho verde, green wine (made from green grapes, only in this region). YUM! First meal was the garlic steak Sammy, cooked to a perfect rare/medium rare, and succulently tender. Melt all the way into your pie hole! Chocolate mouse with hazelnuts to wash it down. The mousse had more of a cake batter consistency and I kept thinking I was a child licking the beater! 2nd night, onion steak sandwich, perfect, and now my new fave! They recognized me from the night before and got me right in (I felt important lol). This time it was condensed milk chocolate mousse, which was almost like a caramel crème brûlée flavour, with the same consistency as the other, but I think I liked this one better! My wife was feeling a bit under the weather and was wanting some soup and fries and instead of going to the golden arches I found this place. I thought a burger was sounding pretty good tonight as well after a week of eating local in Portugal. Very small place but efficient use of space. Nicely decorated with these old food trays all over the ceiling. Service was very good and not overwhelming or too un-attentive either. I ordered the classic burger and fries and my wife got the vegetable soup. She said the soup was just ok, mostly beans and cabbage. But I cannot believe I am about to say this, but the burger was the best burger I have had in a longtime anywhere and I am in the middle of Porto in Portugal! Cooked perfectly, just the way I asked (pink in the middle) and the tomatoes, bacon, lettuce, mayonnaise and a super soft brioche bun. It was just a fantastic burger, and the fries were great as well. If we make it back I will try either the cod sandwich or one of their steak sandwiches. Overall my wife and I found the food here to be ok, im not sure if it was just because we were at the end of our trip and starting to get food fatigue. We ended up ordering 2 burgers, basket of fries to share, and 2 cokes, i think the bill came to be about $50 euros in total. The burgers were decent but rather small and slightly undercooked, we asked for medium rare but it was more like rare, not sure if that's just because European standards are different than American standards. This beef sandwich (francesinha) is pretty big so consider sharing it between two people! The steak is pretty tender but a mouthful. I expected the sauce to be like tomato soup but it tasted much more flavorful and complex than a simple tomato-based sauce. It was a little salty and became a little much for me towards the end. The rest of the menu also houses some gems: salad and tuna tataki. These really helped to balance out some of the sandwich. They also have Super Bock on tap to round out your meal! read more

One of the best sandwiches I've ever had, anywhere! Prégar is known for traditional Portuguese steak sandwiches - it's a small place with a friendly, casual atmosphere. I had a classic sandwich and was blown away - this wasn't chewy, gristly thinly sliced steak. At all. This was a thick, premium cut of meat with no fat or gristle. It was served perfectly medium rare on a beautiful crusty roll and was so delicious and tender. We also had fries which came with 4 tasty dipping sauces (horseradish Mayo was my favorite) and the gents had big beers. They serve all day, the prices are really reasonable (under €10) and staff is really nice. We are a lot of great food in Portugal and this ranks up there as one of my favorite stops. read more

There is no outdoor area to sit but to also sit inside, at the time you need to provide a negative Covid antigen test or your vaccination card. We tried the garlic tenderloin, serra (cheese) tenderloin, and the picanha. Every single sandwich had perfectly cooked, tender meat. The tenderloin steaks were full pieces, while the picanha meat was cut in strips. The bread was crispy on the outside and the accompaniments perfectly enhanced the flavor of the meat. We found this gem on a whim walking through Porto. There's construction in the front and most of the tourists wanted to be on the river or on the main drag. They were so inviting, we had to come in.
