I ordered the falafel gyro and it was delicious. Super flavorful and very filling. I honestly could only eat half of it - so keep that in mind so you can share it! For dessert I had the cheesecake and it was by far one of the most delicious vegan desserts I have ever had. I highly recommend that you stop by and dine. The restaurant is spacious. Tiny restrooms downstairs. Price is reasonable. Staff is friendly.

After a day of traveling and walking around the city or Porto, I opened up my trusty Yelp app and hunted for some top rated vegan restaurants. Kind Kitchen popped up with a 4.6/5 rating so we opted to walk about .5 mile to reach Kind Kitchen. From the outside it looks bright and trendy, and was pretty busy since it was early for a dinner in Porto (8PM). We headed in and was greeted by the young wait staff and promptly seated with menus. However, that's were the good service ends. Never saw our server at the table again. Had to hunt down other servers to get another beverage. Every plate of food was delivered by a different server. Kind Kitchen has a pretty good selection of starters and mains so I settled on the Tofu nuggets with Korean barbecue sauce for a starter to share with my partner and Seitan Chimichurri Steak for the main. When the nuggets came out, the bowl was put in the center of the table with no side plates. Couldn't find a server to get a couple of side plates so we could share. As far as the food: the Tofu nuggets were really good. Nice and crunchy with a sweet and not so spicy BBQ sauce. Not sure I would call it Korean but it still was good. The Seitan Chimichurri Steak was a let down. Way over seasoned (salty) and it was a bit mushy. The chimichurri was raw garlic forward leaving the herbs somewhere in the background. Honestly I didn't even taste the herbs. I'm mixed between two and three stars so I'll error on the three star side.

What a great find in the middle of Porto. We were walking in the neighborhood and our daughter saw this vegan food restaurant. We stopped in for nachos, ceviche and hummus, and we were dazzled. Everything ... including the Sangria was delicious and we loved all of it. The motto is to be kind to every kind. Nicely done ... and bonus for being so kind!!

There are times when a restaurant seems to be the creme-de-la-creme from Yelp! reviewers, and turns out (in our reality) to be like we entered a parallel universe, where the opposite happens. Kind Kitchen turned out to be one of those places, sadly. It was a bit of a walk from the Ribeira; however, the reviews were extremely positive and it was a beautiful evening, so the half-mile stroll (at first glance) appeared warranted. The place was fairly busy when we arrived (a good sign, perhaps?), and the wait-gal who greeted us seemed friendly and showed us to our table (next to the front door), then was gone. She was off to help other tables, and we never heard from her again. After an inordinately long wait for someone to show up, my other-half had to hail another waitperson to at least start us with something to drink! (NOT an auspicious start, sadly....) Being a 100% vegan restaurant, there was no questioning for restrictive ingredients, which is always a nice thing for plant-based/vegan eaters. Thus, the menu was extensive, with a wide variety of choices to be had. We decided to share a starter of Korean BBQ tofu; I ordered the burrito for my main. When the starter arrived in a bowl (large chunks of yummy-looking BBQ-coated tofu)--which we had stated to the waitperson that we would be sharing when ordered--there was no individual plates offered (nor was there any waitperson to ask for them--we just "assumed" (Oh, no, that word!) small plates would be arriving; which didn't), so we simply ate out of the bowl, which wasn't the most convenient, especially with sauce oozing off the individual pieces. That said, the starter was very tasty; although, the "Korean" sauce wasn't spicy as one would expect if you've ever eaten Korean food. Nonetheless, as stated, it was a filling starter. My burrito main dish was decent, but "nothing to write home to Mom about," as they say. (The hubs wasn't particularly happy with his seitan chimichurri steak; but that's for him to review.) The service remained absent, on par with the rest of the meal. Again, when it was time for us to check-out, we had to stand-up and find someone to pay the bill. Okey-dokey.... Naturally, when all is said and done, we won't (and didn't) return to Kind Kitchen during our Porto stay. Fortunately for them, they can live off their laurels from other customers....

Vegan nachos for 8 euros?? Sign me up! I was pleasantly surprised to find out Porto is much like San Francisco/Berkeley when it comes to vegan-friendly and hipster cafes and restaurants! A quick Google search helped me find Kind Kitchen, where I opted for the vegan nachos because my craving for a plate has been building for MONTHS. While the plate overall could have had more (vegan) cheese, there was a lot of variety in toppings. It was filling, but not too much, as I had room for ice cream afterwards!

What a wonderful spot in Porto! After a full day of exploring the city and walking all the hills we were in desperate need of sustenance. I've stated this in other reviews, but, Portugal is a vegan and vegetarian paradise! Kind Kitchen is a fully vegan restaurant that offers up various bowls, plates and specials as well some cocktails and juices, teas. The space is small and quaint, but welcoming and warm. The staff was so friendly and accommodating and we were able to be seated right away. We were *starving* since we hadn't eaten since the very early morning, We ordered their potato wedges and also some chip and guac to munch on while we awaited our entrees. I ordered their thai bowl which had tofu, edamame, quinoa, mango slices and other vegetables. So healthy and filling My husband tried a true Portuguese item - the Francesinha which originated in Porto but it was made vegan. It's a sandwich with vegan ham covered with melted cheese and then put in a tomato sauce that has some beer. It's very odd and doesn't sound good, but it was so good! I was surprised. And I'm glad we were able to try something that's original to the country but made vegan! Kind Kitchen is fantastic and I hope others can enjoy it too. Would recommend!

This cozy little bar / restaurant serves the most delicious sandwiches (pregos in Portuguese)…read more We had the best red wine we ever tasted (Quinta dos Carvalhais) together with wonderful Portuguese sandwiches. Service was attentive and prompt, starting with the seating. We arrived without a reservation at peak lunchtime, and had to wait about ten minutes for a table.

Came here for lunch on a Sunday after a day of sight seeing and walking around Porto…read more We actually arrived at 12 noon (time it says on Yelp) but they actually opened for business at 12:15 pm. We saw the two waiters come to the street and picked up a few bags of rolls that was delivered and likely for their sandwiches they planned on serving for the day. Word about this must be going around since besides me and my wife, there were 2 other group of people waiting for them to open. Pregar is definitely a small restaurant with only 8 tables inside and 4 tables outside. Their menu was separated by language and our waitress opened it on the English menu. My wife just had soup and I ordered the Serra (Portuguese steak with cheese) on a roll. The price was just for the burger and so I added the fries which came on a dipping side (they had sweet chili, horse radish mayo, ketchup) just to name a few. We actually had the sweet chili and later the horse radish mayo to try. So the steak sandwich I had was Medium (they ask how you want it cooked and went with how the Portuguese like their steaks.) It was a simple no frills sandwich. Just steak. Melted cheese on a roll. The bread was soft and complimented the meat in a 1-1 ratio which I like. Sometimes with a burger, you have more bread with a small burger in the middle. The Serra was 12 euro and thought that was a fair price for a steak sandwich. Overall, I'd give the Serra 4 stars. Service was wonderful and our waitress was attentive and helpful with her suggestions on the steak sandwich to go with. 5 stars. Overall, it was a great lunch and we enjoyed being one of the first ones to dine that day. By the time we were about to finish, more patrons were coming in to eat. Definitely a place If you happen to be near Pregar, I would recommend to try.

The best bifana sandwich in town…read more Conga in Porto is renowned for their bifana sandwich. This is a classic pork sandwich with thin slices of marinated pork served in warm Portuguese roll bread. This introductory dine-in meal was coincidentally the most memorable meal of our trip. We came on a weekday for lunch and was seated shortly on their busy 2nd floor interior. The shredded pork slices were so tender and flavorful having been simmered to soak up all of the spice seasoning the marinade in the large pan for staff to pose with at the storefront. You can watch as the staff skewer out the meat in between the bread. The soft pillowy papo seco bread melted with the meat and was dunked in the spicy pork sauce for extra flavour. We paired this bifana sandwich (3.60 EUR) with their refreshing iced tea and a classic papas stew (3.50 EUR). The stew mixed minced pork & chicken in cornmeal thickened with pork blood. The seasoning made this surprisingly appetizing without much gamey flavour. Our only regret was not ordering more bifana sandwich instead while assuming other shops could be comparable. Simply put, this bifana sandwich was so savoury and none of the other famous shops we visited later ended up coming close. In fact even a Porto local whom we bumped into at a famous bifana sandwich spot in Lisbon flat out said Conga was better and she was right. You're not here for the service but a quick tasty bite. Skip it or hit it? Conga is worth the hype and you have to dine-in or takeout this sandwich!
