    Lunch buffet
    Chelsea H.

We got the lunch buffet, it was so diverse! So many delicious options. A single plate filled me up. The staff was very friendly, fast, and attentive. Tables are not too crowded together. I will be back my next visit to Porto. (:

daTerra Baixa offers a vegan buffet just off the R. das Flores shopping street. The offerings here were diverse and included basic vegan fare like lettuce salad with avocado and strawberries; beet and carrot slaw; marinated red cabbage; roasted cauliflower; roasted Brussels sprouts; Russian salad of chopped potatoes, peas, and carrots in a creamy dressing; roasted carrot puree; shots of beet and ginger juice; lentil fritters; and marinated cucumber "carpaccio." Some of the bready items included dried tomato focaccia; cornbread; sweet potato wraps; and crostini with olives and grape. The hot offerings included spinach and mushroom lasagna; tofu topped with pineapple sauce; and my favorite, a flaky, crispy cheese borek pie. Overall, the food here was colorful and fresh, though a bit lacking in flavor and seasoning. Nevertheless, you couldn't beat the price of 12.5 Euros for unlimited helpings during dinner!

Porto doesn't have anywhere near the amount of plant-based/vegan restaurants/eateries that Lisbon does; however, daTerra came highly recommended and was a close less-than-10-minute walk from our apartment on the Ribeira, and their buffet offered us a good amount of choices all being 100% vegan. (And, too, the prices were cheap--can't complain about that!) Apparently, the buffet changes daily, so for our 3-night stay in Porto, we popped into daTerra twice (once for lunch; once for dinner). The staff on both occasions were simply terrific--a great group of people! For me, let's say two-thirds of the buffet was YUM; one-third was not to my liking. But, hey, that's a buffet for you: somethings are hits; something are misses--that's why you've got a large variety of food stuffs to choose from. Wines and beers were extra, but food and drinks are so cheap in Portugal that it didn't matter. The fancy desserts were extra, as well; but, again, who cares if it tastes great and is reasonably priced! In sum: daTerra's food rates a very solid 4-star rating from me, and I give it an extra star for the friendly service.

A vegan buffet - are you serious? They are absolutely serious, and the food is good! I came for dinner and enjoyed everything. Highlights from the buffet were the pureed leek soup, and this sliced savory tart thing with flaky pastry crust surrounding a filling of eggplant and olives (possibly a vegan adaptation of beef wellington). The best thing overall was the hazelnut chocolate pie! Desserts are not included in the buffet price but it was delicious and more than worth the price.

I am blessed to say that I had the pleasure of eating at daTerra Baixa during my short trip to Porto. I tried it once and loved it so much that I ate at the restaurant every single day of my trip (sometimes even twice in one day). DaTerra is my personal heaven on earth, and if you are vegan, vegetarian, or simply someone who cares about the food that you're putting into your body, I cannot recommend this restaurant enough! The food is amazing! There is such a diverse selection of food, including food that you've probably never heard of before, and it is all so good. Beyond the food, the restaurant itself is very nice. It's busy 24/7 so it's amazing how the staff are able to keep the place so clean - not to mention how effective they are when it comes to replenishing/replacing food on the front line. I visited this restaurant on the first day of my three-month solo trip and the staff were so kind to me, all of my nerves were washed away. I appreciate this restaurant so much. I can't wait to return. 10/10

Interesting peanut based pasta and delicious beet-mango polenta

What we got: €9.90 dinner buffet Pros: - This was right beside our hostel (Best Guest Hostel) in Porto and we were looking for something with vegetables as the Portuguese diet was very much meat, seafood, and potatoes. - The price was very reasonable and the items changed with each day. I highly liked the mango polenta and curry cauliflower. On another day, they also had stuffed mushrooms. - There was also a good squash soup, which is nice to have something to drink as water is expensive. - I find the menu at this restaurant to be more creative than traditional vegan/vegetarian restaurants, rather than the typical salad, falafel and tofu- you can see the pictures of the different options they had. They also cater to gluten free options. - This restaurant was also quite large and can fit many people, I only waited 5 min for a group of 4 around 7:30 on a weeknight to get in. - Excellent area, lots of things to do after eating. Cons: - Unlike a traditional North American Buffet, the desserts are extra cost. However they do look very good and might suggest you try!

Service here was done from a smaller table adjacent and servers literally finish prepare and serve your entrees to a separate plate for you and give you your sides. Almost like mom serving you up and giving you access to more later. Servings are huge and many dishes come with potatoes but quietly include a fantastic rice with a slight smoky flavor and a huge vegetable stir fry (not listed in menu description). I ordered the Iberian roast pork and she got the Sea Bream special. Both under 20 Euros. We also got one salad to share. Omg it was huge-so glad we didn't each get one! Lightly dressed with olive oil on the side we didn't need. One of the best salads I've had in a long time. Wine and drink list large and good. Jose was such a professional great server as was all of the staff. Fun to watch the care they put into service. The food was fantastic and more than ample. We couldn't quite finish it all but believe me I tried! Price was very moderate for such great food and service in such a nice large classically decorated restaurant and I'd go back in a heart beat. Locals seemed more present than tourists. If you are looking for great variety of fish, meats, veg,, and drinks at a mid level price, this is one of the best choices you could make!! Obrigado Jose!

You'll find traditional Portuguese food at Abadia do Porto…read more We started off with the octopus with parsley sauce and the prawns fried in garlic sauce. The octopus was perfectly cooked with loads of chopped white onion and parsley atop. So simple and refreshing. I loved the prawns and had to order the bread (also great) to mop up that sauce! Looking back, these two dishes were at the top of our list during our week stay. For entrees, we ordered the roast Iberian pork neck (single portion) with chestnuts and it was rich and satisfying. As an afterthought, my fiancé ordered the Bacalhau (ok) and didn't realize it came with sides of cabbage and rice too. Way too much food, especially for just the two of us. Good thing we ordered the "single" portions! We couldn't finish either of the two entrees and could have done without the fish, but hey when in Portugal, we wanted to try everything the region is known for. Too bad he missed out on the tripe. HUGE portions. Service was good too. Go for the starters, specifically the octopus and the shrimp and err on the lighter side for entrees. Email for reservations!

We were serenaded by street performers playing the accordion and violin while we were eating, which was absolutely lovely. My opinions about the service, however, are a little bit mixed. When we first walked up, the servers were very kind. They were completely full and we wanted to sit outside, so they promised us that it wouldn't be more than a five minute wait for a table, and allowed us to hang out at the bar inside until our table was ready. They delivered on their promise, and we were seated at a table outside within a few minutes. Our server, however, was cracking some jokes that I found to be slightly inappropriate. First of all, he actually yelled at us for throwing a cigarette butt on the ground and told us that we needed to pick it up. I pointed out that we had thrown it there because we had asked him for an ash tray and we didn't actually get one so we had nowhere to put the butt. After we picked it up, he said "Just kidding" and walked away. It didn't seem like he was joking, so it really put us off. Additionally, the servers kept disappearing into a nearby alley to smoke and the manager kept coming outside to yell at them to get back to work. It certainly looked unprofessional. We didn't have to wait too long for our food, luckily, and the food itself was pretty good. I ordered a vegetarian pizza, and for a reasonable price, I got a pretty large portion of food that tasted delicious. The bar also offers a HUGE selection of delicious looking cocktails, although I did not order any since they were on the pricier side. I did order a couple of beers, however, and they were pretty delicious and priced much more reasonably. The only other issue that I had with this place was at the end of the night when I asked to get the remaining pizza I had packed up to go. I had left five slices of the pizza on the plate but when I got home, I realized that they had only actually packed two of my slices. I wasn't happy about that since I had paid for the pizza and I expected to be able to take away everything that was left. I am not sure why they failed to pack the remaining three slices, as the box they gave me was pretty large and I am sure that the other three would've fit. Nonetheless, the delicious food, atmosphere, and large selection of drinks available are what give this place a four star rating in my books.
