This was the first restaurant we tried while on our trip to D.C. and it did not disappoint! We drove in from Florida to help a friend move and after the 14 hours our bellies were craving Mexican! A friend suggested it because they had seen it when they exited the train and said they had outdoor seating. We wanted to go somewhere cute, lively, decent music and food but we got so much more! We started with drinks I got a margarita that was mixed with sangria and joy... I'll try to find the name for it because for the rest of the night I kept referring to it as "the bad b$&ch". My friends frozen mango margaritas, we all thought we had the best drink until we decided to do a pitcher of the frozen passion fruit..... bihhhh when I TELL YOU.... Straight juice. To be clear there was alcohol, but you would've thought it was juice by the way we were drinking it. SO GOOD! And perfect in this summer weather. Appetizer: Queso fundido. Daniel suggested it and we almost fought each other it. Again... SO GOOD! Our entrees came out and we all had mixed feelings: half excited, half already stuffed from the appetizer (okay for three but really good for two I'd say). I had the burrito bowl and I had my doubts (being that the restaurant is advertised as Tex Mex... in some places I've been to this means unseasoned , but not this place...) OMG, that chicken was SO JUICY! I was really trying to finish it but it was big... which is never a bad thing. Taste better at 3 am if you know what I mean. Last thing, and the cherry on top we had mentioned to Daniel that one of us had moved here (I was in DC for the first time too) and he made the night even more special with SHOTS! On the house!!!! So generous. We all wished we had gotten dessert but our stomachs must've shrank on the drive over. Anyway wonderful experience, seriously recommend. Will come back here when I visit DC again. Wow! Usually when I start a review with the word "wow," it means the restaurant was fantastic. NOT SO WITH LAREDO at 3500 Connecticut Ave NW. Ok, to be fair, the food was, well, fair - maybe I could squeeze out a "good" for the salsa which tasted fresh and tomato-y and tart, almost spicy. I had the shrimp burrito bowl and my spouse had the steak burrito bowl. I will give them kudos for thinking of a dish like this. I have not seen a burrito bowl at many places and this one looked pretty and tasted, as I said before, fair. However, the thing that drags this restaurant down - WAY DOWN - is the service. It is a stretch to call it service. The waiter - Hamilton R - was perhaps the worst waiter I have ever had. Anywhere. Uninterested, unpleasant, unmotivated, uninspired, un-anything that you actually want in a waiter. I believe he maybe said 3 words to us, all at the end when he handed us the bill to pay. Of course, that was to support some sort of tip. We did, in fact, leave poor Hamilton a tip but, even now, well after the meal, I feel cheated. He did not deserve anything for the service he gave. I can go down the road of maybe he had something bad happen to him today - maybe his wife left him - maybe he got some bad news at the doctor's office - but I suppose that even then we would have better service than we had from Hamilton. We all have to work but, seriously, Hamilton, you really should quit this job if you hate it so much. Get an office job. But, while you are a waiter, at least smile at people. At least look at people. Please stop dropping the plates and drinks on the table and walking away before we can ask for anything else (like a napkin). Please stop slamming the door every time you have to go inside the restaurant. I hate to complain too much about someone I don't know but this waiter would NOT be acceptable to anyone. And the bottom line is that his poor service has ensured that I will never return to Laredo. read more

I've been going in there more often this past month. Everyone is really nice & chill except for Havi. He's the bartender when Marta isn't there. Alex & Sergio are very nice servers there as well. Havi decided not to serve me because I was a 22 year old without a credit card even though he served me without even glancing at my ID the other day. The food is good (usually not hot), if you go, I suggest sitting in the patio or ordering out, not worth the attitude. I will NEVER be returning to this establishment the way he disrespected me, telling me, "I will not serve you, now leave my bar" & following me out the door in very close proximity. read more

After a quick glance at the menu, I already saw some red flags. The prices are incredibly expensive for the type of food they are offering. For example tacos were $18 minimum.. I ordered a chicken burrito assuming it would come out as a typical burrito, but I was shocked to find out that all of the fillings (rice, beans, cheese, pico, guac) were all on the plate while just the chicken was inside the so called burrito. Cheese was melted on top so I couldn't even pick up the burrito or open it up to try to assemble and add the filling inside to re wrap it.. The chicken itself was very dry with minimal flavor. I have never ordered a burrito where only meat was inside, this was incredibly disappointing. The rice was also over cooked and hard. Overall prices are way too high and the food quality is mediocre at best. I would not recommend going here and do not plan on returning again. read more

This cozy restaurant treats you nice! Our group of four came on a cold Monday night to celebrate my brother and sister-in-law moving to DC. The platters are large and reasonably priced. I ordered the Tacos Juarez because I can't resist crunchy tacos, and I loved how I could select the combo, so I got to try one shrimp, beef, and chorizo taco each (chorizo was the best of course). We downed reasonably priced (and appropriately strong!) half-pitchers of lime and peach margaritas. Our server, who was attentive and friendly, seemed to enjoy seeing us have a good time, so he brought complimentary tequila shots to end the night! This place is amazing! Small hole in the wall but the food is great. The guac was made fresh and to your liking. The salad was fresh as well. My boyfriend had the enchilada and a taco and he loved it. He said it was tasteful. I don't like that the chairs at the bar are a little short for the bar I'm like leaning over to eat. Yikes. I was advised not to eat here, but I like to try things for myself, so I tried it anyway. I am 100% confident that I could have lived without this experience. I primarily judge Mexican restaurants by their chips and salsa, and of course on their margaritas as well. The chips are PAPER thin yall. Paper. Thin. The salsa was good, but nothing to write home about. I was baffled by how easily the chips broke, sometimes before they could even make it from the salsa to my mouth. Yiiiiiikes. The house margarita was so mediocre. It cost about $6 on happy hour and was not worth it, even with the discount. There was also a layer of froth at the top that just didn't make sense. The service was quick, but the servers didn't immediately bring out the happy hour menu. I visited at 5pm. I and the patrons next to me had to ask if there were specials, which I found strange. DC is a happy hour city. Happy hour is what I keeps people at restaurants here. Why would you make people ask for the HH menu? I quickly glanced a the rest of the menu (happy hour and regular dinner) and it was ridiculously overpriced. I think a quesadilla on happy hour was $8. Seriously? There are much better Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurants around DC. Go to Mezcalero and Taqueria Habanero in Columbia Heights for good food, good Mezcal, great margaritas. Or El Rey at 9th & U if you're looking to get wasted and end your night with the sloppiest nachos you've ever known. Don't waste a cent at Laredo. read more

This place has two excellent brunch deals: 1) A brunch special entree with bottomless mimosas or bloody marys for $19.99 (or just the entree for $14.99) 2) Bottomless errthang for $35 which adds margaritas to the drink mix and plenty of tapas options It has been a while since I have been to a Mexican brunch, and my first time at this place period. I first spotted it when I was at Indique, the lovely Indian restaurant, right next door. I called ahead to make a reservation for my friends and I, and when we arrived, there was an option to either sit outside or inside. The former is usually my go-to, but the heat told me otherwise. Once we were seated we took the menus and looked at our options. We all decided to go for Option 2 and got our first round of margaritas. In terms of food, we pretty much ordered everything. With the margarita pitcher sitting at the table, we demolished some tasty egg & chorizo tacos, chicken tacos, chilaquiles, and much more. The food was great! I CANNOT believe I waited until a week before moving out of the neighborhood to come here. They have a fabulous, special VEGAN menu and the service was impeccable. I got the enchiladas with grilled portobellos, spinach, and Diya cheese and the guacamole to start and both were perfection. I will 100% be returning when I'm back in DC. My mom had the salmon salad and raved about it. Our waiter could not have been more gracious, and I've recommended this place to all my friends. I love Laredo. It is one of this kind of restaurants where you feel home. They have outdoor tables, balcony and two floors of seating area. On the weekdays, it is not busy but on Saturday brunch is packed. They have happy hour specials: good variety of beers, homemade margaritas and hard liqueurs. Our snack is always nachos with beef: enough beans, enough cheese, enough meat. Meals are big enough for two not-that-hungry couple I cannot say that it is super clean but not dirty. As I mentioned, it is a local bar and I, personally, do not pay attention on it because it is like "home". Also, staff is very friendly :) I love how they work and talk with guests. Ps. Laredo D.C.'s festive decorations and backyard seen grabbed my attention when looking for a place to dine on a Thursday evening. My boyfriend and I were immediately greeted upon stepping onto the restaurant's deck like entrance. Due to the colorful lights and warm feeling of the outdoor seating we elected to dine outside. Once sat, we were served complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were fresh thin and crispy. The chips were so good. The salsa was decent. However, the salsa to chip ratio was off. They should provide way more salsa. We had to ask for more twice. However, I did really appreciate customary free chips and salsa that so many diners are used to having at Mexican restaurants. As you know now days some restaurants have started charging for chips and salsa. Not Laredo. Once we were given the menus and had some time to decide the waitress informed us about their drink special, the Chonga Margarita for $11.99. It is basically a large house margarita. The hostess (not our server) made it clear that we could not share the drink; which was a bit off putting since some people don't care to drink that much alcohol. However, I get it. My boyfriend took her suggestion and I opted for a Passion Fruit mojito. The drinks were pretty well made. My mojito was served in a fun skull glass. I really liked that. For our appetizer, we ordered the Nacho Platter with steak and pork. However, we were served steak and chicken nachos. The restaurant did not do much once we told them about their mix up. The nachos were still really good. Plus, portion size was spot on. For entrees, I ordered the chicken tamale and my boyfriend got the spinach burrito. Both portions were pretty great. To my surprise, I got two tamales. I was happy about that. However, on both entrees they left off the guacamole so I had to tell the server to please provide us with the guacamole as listed on the menu, she graciously did so. I want to highlight the fact that our server was very great. She was a French young woman. If you get her you will be in good hands as she tried her best to make sure we had a wonderful experience. Moved here from California, so I'm used to good Mexican food. Have been underwhelmed and disappointed by the Mexican places around here, until now. This is the best Mexican food I've had east of the Sierra Nevada. All fresh ingredients, lovingly hand-made. No canned refritos and day-old rice here. The tamales were as good as any I've ever had. I honestly was tempted to leave before we ordered after seeing/tasting how watery the salsa served with the chips was. The main entrees arrived nearly cold/near lukewarm and had no flavor, spice/heat. I'm not sure if they purposefully made the food bland to make it more palatable to the neighborhood, but it wasn't very pleasant. Finally, it was just overpriced for what it was. Had brunch there today and further confirmed why we'd never tried it before even though it's been in the neighborhood forever. Located on the corner of Connecticut and Ordway it does have one superb feature: the very pleasant raised outdoor terrace with views of the busy intersection, the best outdoor space on the block. Maybe ok for a so so drink given the nice terrace (and the fresh, thin chips and salsa) but not for food. I had the chicken tacos which were totally flavorless with lukewarm rice and beans, my partner had the set brunch with bottomless bloody Mary's and sausage scrambled eggs, a bit more taste than the tacos but nothing you'd order a second time. There was supposed to be fruit salad with the set but they didn't bring it. Would have given the dessert a try, except I'd never seen a more unattractive dessert menu with the worst quality unappetizing photos (and no prices). Service was haphazard even with few customers around - they almost took the wrong order and then brought the wrong bill totaling twice the amount - although rectified quickly, the whole experience is not one that'd encourage a return visit. Laredo is life. The food here is delicious- probably some of the best refried beans I've ever had. The chips are SO THIN and crispy. They're so easy to binge on with the salsa. My favorite dishes are the fajitas and nachos. I would avoid the salads here as they are usually watery and I didn't like my dressing. I guess that's what you get for having a salad at a Mexican restaurant... The staff are also SO NICE. Literally, one time my friend and I came here before they opened and they still let us sit down and have mimosas. It was so lovely. The outdoor seating is great during the warm weather. You literally feel like a fool sitting there paying these prices. The food finally came and they had put steak instead of ground beef on the taco salad. I didnt want to pay extra. The server came back and said that steak is the SAME PRICE as ground beef. In what world is steak the same price as ground beef????? I sent it back and we're headed to Chipotle. To hell with this. Also ordered some more salsa. They brought that then we sat there for 15 minutes without any chips to eat it with. Drinks were not refilled promptly. We won't be coming back. read more

I took my elderly aunt to lunch here today and we were really pleased with the service. There were plenty of tables available outside to enjoy the beautiful sunny afternoon. Javi and Sherman were friendly and courteous and answered all our questions (you guys are lucky to have these employees!). We had a great queso fundido as an appetizer and then split a yummy paella dish. Absolutely wonderful experience. I recommend this place and will most likely come back another day! read more

We stopped in for lunch a couple of weekends ago when we were in the area and I have to say I don't think I'll be back. The space is pretty large, and we wound up in a back room by ourselves. Unfortunately, because were in a room by ourselves it seemed like we were forgotten about. The service was not good. Took a while to order anything, get our food, get the check, etc. I started with a margarita and it was fine. Tasted like a sweet mix with some well tequila so I only had one. The food was not good. I got the chicken tacos and honestly I can't even remember what my husband got. The chicken tacos were very bland. Simple flour tortilla with some grilled chicken and shredded cheddar. It came with rice and beans which were just ok too. Everything just tasted like it was premade and haphazardly thrown together. DC definitely doesn't have a great Mexican food scene, but this was bad even for DC. We won't be back. read more

This spot is great! They have nice outdoor seating on their patio. I can say that I felt pretty safe. I came during happy hour with a couple of my friends and I ordered two margaritas - 1 frozen (picture is attached) and 1 on the rocks. I ordered a chicken chimichanga and it was delicious! The serving size was pretty large; I had a good amount to take home. The margaritas were a great size also, super tasty, and definitely got us there... lol! The service was great as well, they kept making sure we were taken care of in terms of our chips and drinks. They also gave us tequila shots on the house before we left.
