Firstly, how lucky am I to have searched "tattoo studio" into Apple Maps and have such a perfect…read morefit for the style of tattoo I was wanting pop up literally 6 blocks from my home??
Ok, moving on to the experience: My partner and I had wanted to do matching Star Wars tattoos for my birthday, which just happens to be Star Wars day (May the Fourth) and life got in the way, we forgot about it for a bit, and then just before Christmas my grandfather suddenly passed away, so I had the feeling I should get some subtle form of memorial tattoo for him (I called him Poppy, so the idea of a small Poppy flower on my finger seemed like a cute way of doing that). I am not new to tattoos. I'm not fully covered but I do have a half sleeve and a few others here and there. This was my first time booking with a fine-line artist, though, since the tattoos I was wanting were going to be on my fingers. The appointment booking process was really easy, filled out a form, Mags emailed me asking what I was wanting to get to make sure we were a good match for each other, which I REALLY appreciate, because not all artists are meant for all types of tattoos! Being upfront about that is awesome in my opinion. She confirmed that what I was wanting would be a great fit for her style and technique and I gave her a deposit (which goes toward the total price on the day of the appt).
Come today, appt day!
I arrived a bit too early but no big deal, she arrived on time with her daughter, and we began the process, which included me requesting multiple add-ons that I cautiously assumed she might not agree to doing since we had already locked in designs. She happily agreed to them and we added a good little amount of extra work to the session, which she did not charge me for! Personally I feel this is pretty fair considering the size of the tattoos are very small, and I understand the need to hold a price minimum when much of your clientele wants very small tattoos, totally makes sense.
Mags was incredibly kind, the conversation in the shop was awesome, I felt so totally in the right place, or "with my people" if that makes sense. Her daughter asking for help with homework while we were applying stencils gave me this really cool feeling of a family-community locality and truly it was really cool.
I have a medical condition called Reynauds that makes my fingers go numb and white with any anxiety (which tattoos induce), and Mags had zero issue with this.
Pain was involved, as it always it with tattoos, duh. It wouldn't be a good tattoo experience without the pain!
I'm just really so happy to be able to recommend this local woman-owned business because it truly was a fantastic experience and I'm already wanting more on my fingers, even though it hurt REAL bad
Thank you a million times, Mags and Daniel for the conversation! Photos below of after lotion application on night 1!
Overall: amazing local tattoo studio with multiple artists who have multiple styles!
