Someone must have had people like me in mind when they came up with the concept for this store. On to the fashion! I found some beautiful (although pretty high-end) tees by designer James Perse as well as some local style, like Vancouver's own Shereen De Rousseau's gorgeous cross-platform jewellery.

Most recently I found my favorite discovery yet: Styrofoam heads. But I've also bought a tray, plant soil, fabric dye, a random vase and a cutting board here. The glue in the latter unstuck after a year, yet the damage is mendable. The staff is always helpful and candle selection here is fragrant and varied. In addition to the street level madness (and the sidewalk boxes), there is also a basement level filled with plant pots and soil. Kitchen Corner was the only spot I could find soil in February in order to re-pot one of my ailing houseplants. The prices aren't really bargains, but the selection is quirky and gives that garage-sale feel without that coating of yard-sale crud.

However, our family of six visited on a Tuesday morning at 8:30 am and we managed to find onsite for two hours for $2. We checked out the public market, purchased coffee at Blue Parrot, and bought souvenirs at the Kids Market. There are few intriguing vendors that I would like to check out if we were to revisit: Siegel's Bagels, Stuart's Bakery, Lee's Donuts, and Kaisereck Delicatessen. The area is vast and it's good for a morning stroll and to snap a few pictures of the ocean front and Granville bridge.

But we soon discovered that the lamp required a strange four-point bulb not easily available. We tried a couple of shops, drew diagrams of what we needed, etc. but each time failed to find the right bulb. Meandering on Broadway one day I stopped into Kits Lighting thinking this specialty lighting shop could solve my problems. I'd finally figured out that I needed a 55W 2D bulb and thought, since I knew the specific name of what I was looking for and wouldn't be drawing more pictures on napkins, I'd be picking one up here in no time. I walked into the store and after a long moment the clerk acknowledged me. I stated that I was looking for a 55W 2D light bulb and he proceeded to carelessly look on a shelf or two and then hold up sample products. None were the bulb I'd asked for. Finally he said he couldn't help me. "Can't you special order it?" I say. "No, try Home Hardware," he replies. Seriously? I went home and Googled the bulb: I can order it online for $16. Shopping local is great, but the big bad Internet wins this one.

So now I have a couch that I paid a lot of money for and it is alright in the space but not great. The quality is very good and I am happy with that. I wasn't happy that the sales staff did not inform me of added costs at the time of purchase such as delivery and unpacking the item. So, that wasn't appreciated. However, the delivery guys were AMAZING! "David the Great" and "Guy the Beautiful" who does charming poses were so helpful, funny, friendly and went the extra mile. They provided great customer service and redeemed my experience with this retailer. After all this, I'm not sure that I will buy from Brier's again. I feel somewhat disappointed with the couch and wish I had waited on choosing the fabric, though I'm not sure if that would've been an option.

I wanted something chic, elegant and quality, and was willing to pay for it. I decided to visit the store. Once again like many other times, I walk in and no acknowledgment at all by the staff. Circled about three times in the store, not a single approach, and I actually would've liked some assistance. I found the "Alexis Highball Glass" and was unpleasantly surprised, as it felt more like plastic. It was light, composition blurry, warm to the touch and when tapped dull. This particular glass felt and looked like Optic-Grade Plastic than Optic Glass, which are two very different products, with certainly different price points. I mean obviously I didn't whip out in front of me a mini glass testing lab to render my conclusion with 100% certainty, but what do they say....If it quacks like a duck and walks like a duck and looks like a duck....it's what?........ The stone in my shoe with this case, is why advertise Optic Glass on your website when the actual product in store has all the arrows pointing to Plastic? It's sad.
