    Shaking beef
    Lloyd M.

Returned for the first time in over ten years (had moved overseas for eight of the years) and it has not missed a beat. I would describe the menu as modern Asian but the most important thing is everything is excellent. Started by sharing two dishes with my daughter. We both loved the salad. The lettuce wraps were okay but probably the one thing I would not order again; they just lacked flavor. The true highlight was the shaking beef, cooked perfectly medium rare (without having to ask) with a perfect sauce, it was simply great. Tempted to order dessert but was too full, until next time.

The steak was good as well as the bento box. We also had the shrimp which was so so, the pork dumplings which were great and ended with the chocolate cake and ice cream. The service was incredible

From the moment you step foot inside, the Lantern staff and ambiance delivered. Great place for date night, my wife and I tried a variety of dishes and we fully enjoyed each bite along with the bottle of Nebbiolo; which ended pairing well with each course. For starters we sampled the Clara' Salad, Pea Shoot & Scallion Dumplings, Lettuce Cups and Korean Style Fried Cauliflower. Followed by The Shaking Beef entree prepared with caramelized red onions and water cress, I requested it medium. We also had the Lemongrass Grilled Country Pork Rib with perfectly cooked jasmine rice a fried egg and a fresh cucumber mint salad that had a slight hint of spice. Each dish was perfectly cooked and really paired well with the Nebbiolo. We topped of the meal with 2 decadent desserts the Hot Chocolate Cake which had delightfully Toasted coconut pieces. And we thought we would explore and try something unusual so the warm Native Persimmon Pudding was our non-conventional choice and we both agreed it did not disappoint. The service was great, the food quality was outstanding and truly delicious. With 3 kids we don't venture out on dates as often as we like. Therefore, we try to make the best possible choice and I am happy to say Lantern was a true pleasure, moreover, not having any digestive tregrets afterwords was a plus. We will definitely return soon and highly recommend the Lantern restaurant.

This place is a vibe and is the right pick for your next party! 10/10 would recommend :)

Bento box and Salt and pepper shrimp

The Bento box was a fun appetizer and pairing the salt and pepper shrimp was a great move! Good tastes, and fun to eat with my partner! The pork belly was complimented by yummy crisp cabbage and carrots that were full of flavor. The peashoot dumplings didn't live up to the hype, kind of tasteless and a one dimension flavor note....even the pea sauce was salty and missing a lift... maybe a touch of acidity needed! We have been waiting to come here for 6 years and it was a fun menu! Singha beer chased everything down well and the cocktail, the Porchlight, were great complements to the meal. We will come back!

We went here for restaurant week, and left having mixed feelings. We started the night with a cocktail that was incredible and a lot of green tea that was also nice. The appetizers were friend chicken which was perfectly crispy and their signature salt a pepper shrimp (a must try) But that's where the positives end. The entrees were a choice of 2 ramens and a vegetarian hotpot. My partner went with the pork tonkotsu and I went with spicy chicken. Both entrees lacked flavor, and left us wishing we had tried a different place. Especially at the price point ($150 for two), it left a lot to be desired. It gets 3 stars for the appetizers and drinks, but skip Lantern for entrees.

LIKE WHAAAAAT! I should've realized it when I saw that part of the name of the restaurant was "Station"! Even then, the seats inside and not in the train were also nice too :) We came on a Friday evening and were surprised that it was not busy... for like 10 minutes lol. Parking can be a little tricky in this area, since there's Weaver Street Market within the plaza, along with a few other small mom 'n pop shops! We all ordered a dish and a soup. My partner and I got pad thai, pad see ew, and tom yum soup! The restaurant had a lot of really good options, but we usually like to order our go-to Thai options on our first time visit. I can't comment on the pad see ew, but I like how the server was kind and confirmed with us the amount of heat we wanted to eat. Lol, you know it's gonna be Asian spicy when they double check with you! Tom yum soup was not bad--tangy and a little pack of heat (sorry, I can't handle too much spice) and the pad thai was chewy and had a good amount of sauce and protein with each bite! I actually liked that it had an acidity compared to some other thai places I've tried where it's just too sweet. Portion size was just right! I'd definitely come back here again to try the other options :) We had so much fun chatting that I didn't get a chance to snap a photo of the interior, but trust me, it's really nice! I'd even recommend this as a casual date night place.

This is a casual, fun, Asian-Latin fusion restaurant and bar. Inside, the space is divided into two sides: bar and dining room. A big "LUCHA TIGRE" covers one of the bar walls and pop art decorates the main dining room wall. They also have a somewhat spacious, partially-covered patio. Overall, it's got a neat vibe. I booked our reservations on Lucha Tigre's website at https://luchatigre.com/ The reservation process was unconventional because instead of getting booked immediately, I had to wait for an email confirmation. On a Sunday, I got a "Pending Reservation Request" email at 2:16pm followed by a confirmation email at 2:52pm, so a 36-minute turnaround time. I got us a same-day reservation at 5pm, not a peak time as evidenced by the lack of customers upon our arrival. However, business had picked up by the time we left around 6:30. The menu had an interesting selection of food and drink. A few good examples of the Asian-Latin fusion served here include General Tso's Chicken Empanadas ($5 each), Pozole Ramen ($15.99), and Pad Thai Al Pastor ($16.99). They also serve straight-up Asian and Latin dishes like pho ($14.99) and tacos ($2 and $4 each). Drink-wise, they had a full bar with a decent selection that included tequila, mezcal, and sake cocktails. They even had a cocktail made with Japanese Suntory Whisky Toki. Here's what my wife and I had: Bebidas Especiales (cocktails) * El Conquistador ($14) - Tequila Herradura Silver, freshly-squeezed citrus, Cointreau Tapas * Tuna Tiradito ($16.99) - sashimi tuna with aji amarillo pepper, onions, cilantro, roasted corn nuts, and fresh citrus; Nikkei cuisine * Bulgogi Nachos ($15.99) - giant-size nachos with Korean BBQ beef, pico, kimchi, cheese, crema, jalapenos, black beans Entrees * Salmon Poke ($18.99) - raw salmon with sesame, onion, and tamari with seaweed salad, rice, and avocado * Pollo Saltado ($16.99) - stir-fried chicken, tomato, cilantro, onion; served over fries with rice and salad In general, we were happy or content with everything. Some dishes were better than others. Beautiful presentation all around. The El Conquistador was a margarita that was more tart and less sweet. It was refreshing. I liked the Tuna Tiradito more than my wife. Tiradito is like Peruvian sashimi. I thought this dish was fine. I could see why my wife didn't like it as much because the texture of the tuna wasn't as fresh and appetizing as the tuna sashimi we're accustomed to. This tuna was a bit more "pasty" in texture. Also, the roasted corn nuts, which we think were the same as hominy, didn't add much. The standout dish was the Bulgogi Nachos. I saw pictures of it on Yelp and knew we had to order it. The portion size was huge and the Korean beef bulgogi was sweet and savory. We devoured the nachos. They were incredibly delicious and addictive. A lot of textures and flavors, and they all blended and worked well together. The Salmon Poke was solid. I recommend it if you like poke. Admittedly, it was better than we both expected because we haven't encountered a lot of great poke in the Chapel Hill-Durham area. Decent portions and fresh salmon, seaweed salad, and other ingredients. I will say the rice tasted plain and not seasoned with rice vinegar. The poke came with two sauces on the side, tamari (a type of Japanese soy sauce) and what I think was a type of curry sauce. The salmon was already nicely marinated and tasty so the sauces weren't needed. The Pollo Saltado was OK. It wasn't among the best I've had, but it was "authentic." The problems with this dish were the chicken was too dry and tough and the fries were underseasoned (not salty enough). Unfortunately, the salad was the best part of this dish. Our server Taryn was great. She was attentive and efficient. Everything we ordered came out fairly quickly. One detail I really liked and appreciated was Taryn neatly packed our leftovers and labeled and dated the boxes. That's an extra level of service you don't get at most other sit-down restaurants. Lucha Tigre opened in December 2012. It replaced the Chapel Hill location of The Original Flying Burrito: https://www.yelp.com/biz/the-original-flying-burrito-chapel-hill You can find it in the Midtown Market shopping plaza, north of UNC's campus. There's plenty of free dedicated parking. I didn't have a good cell signal here and used their guest Wi-Fi. Password was Beefbulgogi1.

My friends got a bowl and other rolls which weren't too bad according to them. Their Thai coconut soup lacked flavor as well and ended up just eating the protein from it to feel like it was somewhat worth it. Deep fried sushi definitely feels like a sin but the bagel roll was simple and tasty! A good crunch on the outside and the creamy inside was a nice textural experience. I wish there was more flavor in the actual salmon and roll. I asked for the spicy tuna to be replaced with soft shell crab in the to all the rolls I've loved before order but I don't think it was (the server did say they could). It was still tasty enough and there was some spicy to this roll. I liked the variety of meats in this roll and it was nicely and neatly rolled. Service was relatively quick but nothing special. Wheat is a small indoor restaurant in downtown Chapel Hill, on the same spot as where another bad Chinese restaurant used to be. Its cramped space and uninviting ambiance make Wheat an unpleasant spot to eat. It took around 15 min. for us to get our 1 order of Braised Beef Noodle Soup, which tasted the same as we remembered when we first tried it. It comes with about 4 chunks of braised beef, 1 egg. 1 baby bokchoy, and noodles in spicy & sour soup with chili oil. $14+ for a beef noodle dish like this is not bad but I can think of other restaurants in Triangle NC that serve a similar beef noodle soup with better ambiance and customer service. When we checked in, we were told, "Sorry, there was a mix-up, but we're working on it." We weren't told what the issue was, and shortly after, a table was brought in from outside for us to use. We stayed optimistic and excited to try the food despite the confusion. Unfortunately, when we sat down, the table was dirty. As soon as we placed our hands on it, dark powder came off onto our hands and clothing. We tried not to let this ruin our mood, since we had heard great things about this restaurant. It took a while for our waitress to come take our order, which we understood because they were busy. However, there was confusion with my order. I asked for salmon sashimi, but she assumed I meant salmon roe. When she brought it out and I explained I had ordered regular salmon sashimi, she implied I had ordered incorrectly and asked if I just wanted the roe instead. When I said I'd prefer what I originally ordered, she repeatedly warned that the kitchen was backed up and it would take a long time, which made me feel discouraged from getting what I actually ordered. Meanwhile, my partner ordered the midnight ceviche and we shared pan-fried pork dumplings. The dumplings arrived room-temperature, and the ceviche came without cilantro and with only two chips for the entire dish. At that point, we were so disappointed that we asked for the check while still waiting for the sashimi. When it finally arrived, it wasn't bad, but it was so citrusy that the flavor of the salmon was hard to taste. Throughout the evening, our waitress (listed on the check as "Mridula") was noticeably less attentive to us than to nearby tables. I'm not usually someone who complains about restaurant experiences, but this visit felt like one disappointment after another. The only positives were the drinks and, to some extent, the dumplings. I would like to give this place another try in the future, but given how disappointing our experience was, I don't believe we will, particularly considering the high prices relative to the quality of the experience. I sincerely hope others had a better experience than we did on the night before Valentine's Day. (I have provided a picture of my partners finger after he ran it across the dirty table, which isn't the best of quality due to the lighting)
