Been a while since we'd been Kailua side and decided to drop in to Tap and Barrel, which is Lanikai Brewing Company's brewpub. Street parking was relatively easy to find at noon on a Sunday, and the taproom wasn't too loud or busy. We were able to grab a couple seats at the bar right away and beertender allowed us to taste two of their drafts. We ended up choosing Okole Maluna (imperial stout) and Kainalu (lime and alaea sea salt gose). Both were really delicious. We had already eaten before stopping in, so next time we come in to try more of their brews, and we'll sample their food too! read more

This is my go-to bar in Kailua. Great beers (Party Wave is the way), awesome vibe, love the outdoor seating in the evening, the pizza from Valentinas is amazing (100% get the Bee's Knees!) Best thing about this place is the staff. Friendly, and speedy service. Always checking in. And great banter. Nice to have improvement opportunities - better cooling in Summer, better sound system, back support on the stools at the bar, and a place to put your feet. read more

During our Oahu trip, we decided to drop by Lanikai Brewing right after a day at Lanikai beach (isn't it a must to try their beer while you're there already?). The place is an easy walk to downtown Kailua. There's only street parking, but we didn't have trouble finding a spot. It's an open air restaurant and a very chill spot, so it's a very nice place to just hang after a beach day. The servers were helpful and made recommendations on drinks. We ordered a flight: Moku Imperial IPA, Route 70, Aloha Blonde, and Brew HEFEner. My fave was the HEFE, then the IPA. Both were smooth and had a nice flavor. The blonde is good too, but pretty much a standard blonde. I did not like the route 70.... It was sour and didn't taste like a beer. I didn't try any of the food, but maybe next time! read more

So address wise, this page is really for the production facility while the other Yelp page is for the tap room. But hey, no matter. You've found the right place to chill among the locals and drink up some great local "Island Inspired" Brews. Besides the sucky parking lot here, everything else is great. From the tasters in the Teku glasses to the ladies making those perfect pours for you. As for the beers....they're all great but I really dig their: Pillbox Porter: First of all, there's not a whole lot of really good porters around so I appreciate the brewers making it in the first place. The difference in Porter versus Stouts is the roasted malt. Tho this beer has hints of coffee and vanilla, it's fabulous at 6.5% ABV and tastes like a winner. Alai'a Quad: You'll see that this Quad clocks in at over 10% and it's $4 for a taster. But really, you got to get this. Hints of saltiness and body of a red ale. Kalani Honua Mango Wild Ale: Delicious full bodied ale, couldn't get enough of it. But I believe it's seasonal so you might not get it. Love that they have rotating taps of other beers as well. There's a food truck here late at night. A swing for instagram pics. Lots of board games to play and chill with your friends. Kid and dog friendly. As far as the portfolio diversity, Lanikai Brewing offers much more than any other brewery in Oahu. Even though out of 12 total taps, "only" 6 were Lanikai, all of their house beers were made with interesting ingredients, such as pikake or hibiscus flowers, pineapple, or local Hawaiian and Tahitian Vanilla. The tap room, located in Kailua is away from all the hustle and flow of Honolulu and parking wasn't hard to find. It wasn't super busy in the early afternoon, but I'd imagine it picks up the later it gets. The service was fast and pleasant and we tried all 6 of the house beers, in sample sizes naturally. Going back to my Untappd ratings, most of Lanikai brews I rated 4/5 which is very good for any brewery and especially one from HI. No food on premises so BYO-there are a lot of scrumptious options nearby.... Hawaiian craft beer scene is still evolving and it will take a little bit of time to catch up with the mainland, but if Lanikai is the one pointing the way, it won't take too long. read more

Came here around 7pm with a few friends on a Saturday night. It was pretty poppin'! They have a bunch of communal tables and board games that you can play. Can get a little hot inside, but wasn't unbearable. They also have a cute swing to take pictures on! The menu rotates, so there's always different ones to try. I ordered a flight of 4 ($12) and got the Paradise Cider Guava Lava, Paradise Cider Mango Daze, a lychee one, and a lilikoi one that I can't remember the names of. I do remember that I couldn't really taste the lychee in the lychee one. My favorite was the Guava Lava, not too sweet, but still a great flavor. The mango was also pretty good, but had a bit sharper taste. I also tried the Killah Dragon, which everyone else really liked and had a beautiful color, but it wasn't my favorite and kind of reminded me of triple berry medicine. Tap & Barrel is Lanikai Brewing Company's new and long time coming bar and tasting room. Located just a stone's throw from the brewery, it replaced their old tasting room. Tap & Barrel is a large space to better serve more customers in a comfortable setting. It deserved a fresh review as so much has changed and improved since first opening a few months ago. Tap & Barrel is located on Hamakua Driver in Kailua. Kailua's only brewery, Lanikai has a distinctly tropical style with lots of local fruits added and unique beers produced. They're experimental and always have something new to try. Lanikai has a number of flagship and limited bottle releases, which are available for purchase here. Despite this, Tap & Barrel is a bar and tasting room, perfect for taking advantage of fresh draft beer. The decor is subdued and tropical; I love the art and stylized logo; paintings of their beer labels add to the color. All the furniture is monkeypod wood made by a local craftsman; booths have large benches perfect for groups or intimate enough for couples. The big windows open to the street provide lots of natural light; the candles add to the ambiance after dark. The bar area is awash with local unfinished wood and countless spotless glasses hanging above. Lanikai has distinctive glassware for their brews, which are perfect for photos. If sitting at the bar, simply order from a bartender and you'll be taken care of. If sitting anywhere else, there is no table service; order at the marked area to the far right of the bar. You can open a tab here. Tap & Barrel is an Untappd Verified Venue, which means their tap list is live and updated on digital screens above the bar. It even shows other users who are there drinking with you. On Untappd, you can see what's available before coming in and also see a schedule of events. Be sure to look out for their talk story nights, yoga events, and others in the future. It should be noted that this is BYOF; they usually host a food truck outside, but feel free to bring your snacks or meals from any of the countless excellent eateries nearby. Parking is awful, with only a few stalls; otherwise use street or the nearby bank/Target lot. The restroom situation also isn't ideal; there is a nice ladies room inside, but a shared dirty and old men's outside in the parking lot. When drinking beer, nice restrooms are a necessity for comfort. They have a swag store on the far wall in old half barrels; check out at the bar. The staff here has been friendly and excited to have a new place to call home. For tourists and locals alike who enjoy a great beer, be sure to check them out! read more

First time here. Local Lanikai brews with some other local crafts. Did the 4 sampling . First 2 was #2 and #3. #2 Lanikai Route 70 tastes like juice mixed with beer. Not gonna lie, it does! The #3 Lanikai pillbox porter is a vanilla dark beer that goes down well. Pros- wider selection than Grace and Growlers. I stopped by here a couple of Sundays ago with my father in law for some drinks. My original plan hadn't been to come here but we were in the area and I happened to see if any breweries were nearby. I got excited whenever Lanakai came up as I have had quite a few of their beers from the ABC stores. Even better was that it was only a half a mile away and so my wife and mother in law went shopping while I headed over here with my father in law. The inside of this place is fairly open and has plenty of seating. There was a large bar off to the left side of the restaurant and then high top tables throughout the rest. It also had a TV which had some football highlights on it and then they had a bookcase full of board games. So while drinking I played scrabble and I saw a couple of people at the bar playing battleship. As I often do whenever I visit a new brewery, I decided to go with a flight here. At Lanakai, that consists of 4 pours in the normal sized glasses which makes it look like a ton of beer. On this day I went with Forever Summer P.O.G. (sour), Sea Kissed Guava (sour), Moku Imperial IPA and Lanakai Pu In Saison (lime zest X space yeast). The first beer that I tried ended up being the Moku Imperial IPA. It had a strong but nice hop flavor from the start to the finish without there being too much bitterness to it. Second was the Sea kissed guava which was definitely a tart beer. The tropical flavored guava was up front and center while the finish had a bit of dryness to it probably due to the sea salt which made this a unique sour. My third beer was the Forever summer P.O.G. and after the sour from above I didn't really get the pog kick I was expecting. On trying it again I did get that tartness but it paled in comparison to the sour still. It ended up having a finish sort of like a wheat beer which was definitely a unique finish for a sour. Last but certainly not least was the Lanakai Pu In Saison which has a smooth start before the lime came in along with some of that saison funkiness. I was impressed that it was easy to taste the lime here without it getting overly bitter. Out of the bunch i would have to say that the Moku was my favorite of the bunch with the Sea Kissed Guava being a close second. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I enjoyed the beers that I had here and most were certainly unlike anything I had tried before. read more

We've been to Lanikai Brewing several times and love it! We stop here every time we're on Oahu. It's usually an amazing experience - great beers and company (shoutout to Jillian!). But we came in on a busy night for the first time and the experience was definitely bad. We're questioning if we should come back or not, it seems service is getting worse as the brewery grows. Our last visit was on a busy Saturday night. Our pizzas were lost for 1.5 hours and the waitress simply kept telling us they were coming. We eventually just got fed up and closed our tab. My husband and I tried to diffuse the situation with our very upset party by paying for the entire tab and we still even tipped her (Jade B.). But as we were leaving, we heard her complain to another table about us. The epitome of disrespect and unprofessionalism, not to mention her lack of accountability for her mistake with the pizzas. We left really disappointed. As for the beers, the Konane is a delicious porter and the Honey Moon is a must for a lighter option! read more

Kailua's very own brewery has been such a hit these past few years that they've expanded with the opening of this large tasting room. This is not only great news for everyone wanting to enjoy their beers on site but also adds another great watering hole for hanging out in Kailua. I was lucky to get to experience the soft opening this past weekend. The space is a large & open layout with many tables for groups as well as bar seats for the solo patrons. Create your own flight or get a glass of your favorite. Rotated for seasonal availability with a style of beer for most beer drinkers. No food served however there's a taco truck out front plus another one or two that hang out nearby so order and bring it in to enjoy with your cold one. To make the space more enjoyable and less noisy... wall decor, multiple TVs, and games to play would be nice additions (making this a 5 star place) read more

Decided to check out this brewery based off of the reviews. The party wave was the best beer and the mai tai was one of the best tasting I've had so far. The pizza while small for the price, tasted really yummy. I got the suprema pizza and cheese pizza. It was cooked perfectly. The space was big with a few booths and plenty of tables that can accommodate big parties. At first we were greeted by two very friendly staff members. We met our waiter and in the two hours we were there he only came once to get our order and then a second time bring our drinks. I had to flag down the hostess to get our waiter to come back to order more drinks. There were other tables with big parties but we saw our waiter go to their tables multiple times and skip ours. I even saw him over at the bar talking to the bar tender with no one to serve. It got to a point where the tables around us became empty and yet the waiter never came to check on us. If it was just for food/drinks I'd give 3 out of 5. If it was based off of service I'd give it 1 out of 5. read more

We really like Lanikai Brewing Co. It has a nice laid back vibe and super friendly service. They're one of the few breweries on Oahu that have sours, but this past visit I wasn't particularly fond of either one of the sours I sampled. Their IPAs, on the other hand, were really good, so we stuck with those and were very happy. I've never had an opportunity to try their food... next time! Since we love all things Lanikai so much, we took home plenty of merch to rep back here in Cali. read more

The taproom was so conveniently located to where we were staying that I thought it would be a good place to meet. It's just a taproom but you can bring in food from outside, they have a book of menus and when we went there was a food truck serving food. I went with their sours- although I liked their Berliner Weisse the best, it was basically like POG juice but alcoholic. My least favorite-the lime Gose was still good, just not as sour as I would like, but that's just my preference though. The only knock I had was that the space was huge but so loud-they seriously cranked up the tunes to 11 so it was hard to talk especially since their walls are all cinder block it just reverberated off of everything. read more

I dig this place, I really do, but it suffers from what seems to be a common craft beer error -- lack of variety. The vibe is great, lots of natural light and natural wood furnishings. Other than the Untapped menu and the TV reel of big wave surf videos, it has a nice minimalistic and simple vibe. I appreciate that the music volume is quiet enough to allow one to have a conversation at normal volume -- after all, fostering friendship and community is the whole point of my local tap room, right? Take note, other bars! The problem, devastatingly, is the beer selection. They have 12 taps, all serving Lanikai beers -- which is appropriate as it is their tap room. However, although the selection changes often, it's all pretty niche hipster beers with a lot of adjunct ingredients. Both times I've visited, a full 25% of the selection has been devoted to Weiss beers, which consequently were also the only session-strength beers on the menu. You see the problem. Weiss beers are hip right now, but what if I want a session beer but I'm not crazy about a Weiss beer? Well, I'm out of luck. Another 25% or more of the menu was devoted to stouts and porters. The others? A dark belgian IPA, a fruity saison, you see where I'm going. On both visits, I've settled on an enjoyable Belgian blonde ale. What if I just want a beer? Let me be clear, I'm not asking for Bud Light, but a great normal beer expertly crafted by a local brewery. Well, I guess I'll have to go elsewhere. I really want to love this place, but without some improvement to their brewing schedule to allow for more variety at all times, my visits will be limited to when I'm looking for something unusual. They had this Big Island gingerade which tasted super healthy but good. I'm glad they had non-alcoholic options to enjoy. We loved the original Lanikai brewing room, although we were pretty cramped with everyone else who felt the same in their tiny tasting room down the street. This new location is spacious, airy, light, and has room for you, your aunties, uncles, and all the hale! My husband and I love Lanikai's sours, especially Rubbah Slippah. Every time they make a new sour, it is just as good if not better than the last. We also were really excited to see that they took a nod from Grace in Growlers and added some other local beers from other breweries such as a Rye and a rice lager to make it a more diverse offering. We got there on Black Friday and they were giving a pretty sizable discount, so we got three growler fills. Our guests loved these beers as much as we did, and it was the perfect accompaniment to a thanksgiving feast. Keep up the good work! read more

Tap & Barrel has a comfortable atmosphere. There's lots of room and space, but on weekends I'm sure it fills up quickly. Great place to meet up with friends. The bartenders have a great knowledge of the beer - #1 is a popular choice. I believe it's Lanikai Moku IPA. Great taste!! The beautiful part of this place is that you can bring in your hydroflask and they'll fill it up with the beer of your choice. Request a Growler which is $16+. Great deal!! Al & Rob are awesome bartenders. At the moment they have a lot of sours on the menu but don't let that stop you! The lanikai porter is the way to go. They also have games you can play and huge tables/booths for groups. It is free range seating so if you go on a trivia night be sure to get there early to find a spot. They have trivia every other week and it is usually pretty packed. The cool thing is that they have a taco food truck outside during trivia night and they allow outside food to be brought in since they don't have a kitchen. They also have bike parking and street parking. Just be aware that they do not have air conditioning so dress light so you're not sweating your butt off in there! read more

Stopped in here for some brews for our one night in Kailua. We each opted for a sampler. I ordered the Route 70, Kainalu, Rubbah Slippah, and the Kaui Beer Co IPA. Loved every single one. I love sours and theirs were on point. The fiance got four others and I loved the pale ale he got, which I actually requested a full pint of. Staff are amazing and personable. Chatted with Al and Rebecca all night. Learned about all their brews and about the origins of the brewery. Downside is they don't ship anywhere on the mainland, but I get it! Once we were seated 1 of the 4 people in our group who doesn't drink due to health reasons was told by our waiter that she may not occupy a seat without drinking. This tap room is great! It's roomy, plenty of seating and space, and has a nice, chilled atmosphere (no attitude, no pretentious). The beers are expensive, but they're expensive in the store too, so really, you know that anyway. They have a decent range of their regular and seasonal brews, and a few guest beers too. You can bring in your own food, which is great. In the evenings, there's a taco truck outside that does really good tacos (I'm not easily impressed when it comes to tacos). They're also kid friendly, and even have a range of board games to help keep them occupied while you sup on a finely crafted ale! Definitely make a stop here. read more
