The spacing makes the entire front yard look unfinished and thrown together. I was told the boxwoods would fill in within a year; it's been two years and they've barely grown. That was either completely unrealistic or just flat-out misleading. The edging and flower bed work is sloppy and uneven. There's no attention to detail, and it shows. Communication was just as bad. Calls were ignored, and when he did respond, it was with "what do you want to talk about?" -- which is not how you speak to a paying customer. At one point, it honestly felt like his own worker knew more than he did and was trying to guide him, but he didn't listen. This wasn't a one-time mistake, it's a pattern of poor workmanship, lack of knowledge, and unprofessional behavior. Save your money and hire someone who actually knows what they're doing.

Communication, affordability, flexibility, efficiency, assiduity - that's the package you get with Cosmo Landscaping. But what you really need to know is I moved into a new house with a disaster of a backyard - it was full of random old bricks, tiny pebbles, and the corpses of about ten -thousand lantern flies. Those little pebbles I mentioned - man - they were everywhere - and were sort of cheap stone you might expect to find at the bottom of a fish thank rather than sprinkled about your yard like a badly decorated cake manufactured by a kindergartner with free reign of the confectionery cupboard. Alas - such was my yard. And I wanted it fixed - bad. I brought in all kinds of troops. Old friends with big debts to pay who I hoped might do me a favor, family with construction business experience, and even a half dozen landscapers and contractors who all promised the world tied up in a pretty pink bow that would fit right in my backyard. But I didn't trust a single one, until Cosmo showed up. The first thing you gotta know is that I'm not easy customer to please. I can do a good bit of construction myself, and like I say, have the soldiers to rely on should I need a hand. But the thing I don't have is time, and so I hate hiring a guy to do a job that I could have done myself (with a little help from my friends) only to find out the job was done half-assedly and worse than I would have done myself. Cosmo came to give me an estimate in the middle of a horrifying blizzard and stood outside with me for ages thinking through exactly how the project should look. I had half a dozen cockamamie ideas that he talked me out of - thank YHWH - and he even used a bunch of old garbage leftover from the previous owners to demonstrate and help me visualize the ideas he had and to talk me out of my own disastrous line of thinking. Well, long story short, we had a lot of back and forth about the price, the objective, how it would look, the features, and he was good enough to trust that I could handle a good portion of the preparatory labor - so he worked with me on that and we got the job rolling and over a period of time we transformed my yard from no-mans-land to a wee urban oasis. His company is one that was recommended by Angi and honestly now I am skeptical of Angi and will never use them again either after this experience. We wanted trek stairs going from the patio to a side door and pavers all around as the patio. Gramarossa are not professionals. The guys they hire seem to be randomly plucked off the street as they have no clue what they were doing. I should have known because when I spoke to Ben he said they did not do trek steps, only masonry. I set an appointment anyway because I figured maybe I can hire someone else to do my trek steps. Yet when he spoke to my husband a few days later (I was at work) he said they do them. It was a disaster from the moment the backyard pavers were laid out. The whole thing was literally slanted sideways by probably 10-15 degrees. In fact the next day the whole thing had to take down and redone. Ben claimed it happened unfortunately because he was not watching his men because he was too busy shopping for our trek materials. The trek steps was done by a man from an entirely different company. It seems they have hired him separately on the side to do it so they can have our business... and it was a SHOTTY job. Ben and his father was watching the man do the work and never said anything about how terrible it was... until we brought it up and they agreed it was not up to their standards. So If we were timid and didn't say anything, they would've definitely let it slide. Whatever. I was just glad they fixed everything without putting up a fight. But here's the thing that really made me angry. His men put their materials and mixed concrete on own brand new asphalt done the year prior, with no protection whatsoever so half of our newly done asphalt was sprinkled with dried concrete. Sadly we did not notice it when we paid because there was still dust and debri all thoughout and it was wet (they attempted to clean) so it was hard to see the stains. That is our fault for not noticing. But I'm annoyed because they knew it happened. I captured the entire thing on my ring camera where they were cleaning and the worker called Ben and his father over to show him the stains that did not come out. They stayed there for a long time trying to clean but it did not come out. No one said a word to us. I contacted Ben via text a week or so later after noticing the huge stains to which he denied it happened and that the stains came out. He said he will come by to power wash it to see if it would come out. We told him we tried. He said he will come by nonetheless but of course never showed up. He said his asphalt guy is not answering and is busy. That was the last of that. So... don't be cheap and hire these guys. I wish I had not.

Today, a truck labeled G & F Oliveros Landscaping was driving down my street and I called the number and I could not be happier with what happened next. I called the number and a gentleman from the company came out and gave an estimate to dig up some old shrubs, cut the grass, do a spring cleanup and plant new box hedges. I accepted the estimate and within 30 minutes his crew began working on my front and back yard. They were very professional, took all of the yard debris away and finished the work in under 1.5 hours. Based on Yelp reviews we then called Devin from Flawless Masonry & Landscape who told us a circular driveway was absolutely doable! Icing on the cake. Then the pandemic hit so the job was delayed (NY orders), but Flawless came through after re-opening and did a superb job for us. They planted golden bamboos; two gorgeous Japanese maples; and teak planters full of of Butterfly bushes, Knockout Roses, Potato Vines and other flowering bushes. They also installed an automatic irrigation system and lighting. For the spring they planted Tulip bulbs. Their monthly maintenance services are top notch.
