But when we toured Paramount Senior Living and met with Starla Press, Director of Admissions and Marketing, we were immediately impressed. Starla spent an enormous amount of time patiently answering our questions and asked many, many questions about our sister and her specific needs. Then she went to the hospital the very next day to meet with our sister and talk with her directly. It was so very clear that Starla was interested in making this work for us and our sister - more than any other community that we met with!! So what makes Paramount Assisted Living so special and superior over other similar communities? It's the people. From Starla - to Olivia Perry, LPN, Resident Care Manager - to Shiryl Stanley in accounting... everyone who works there puts the patient and their family first. When I call to ask a question or discuss my sister's care, they go above and beyond to help. They also know who I am and more importantly, who my sister is and how she is doing. Woodcrest Villa is independent living, the "Mennonite Home" is assisted living and nursing care. Reasonably nice facility with some nice staff. The culture is quintessential Lancaster County Mennonite...cloistered with a limited viewpoint and an ineffective understanding of what it means to run a large facility and provide service. There is historically, and unfortunately, a high turnover of employees in the two facilities (independent living and long term care) on both sides of Harrisburg Pike. This issue predated the CoVid years. My family member once nicknamed them the "Mennonite Mafia" and he nailed it. While they encourage family advocacy, they are not equipped to handle it.... and there is a degree of retribution. There's lots of competition in Lancaster County, so be sure to check all your options for senior life care.

The administrative staff is on top of any issues and the social workers are diligent in helping find solutions. I can't say enough about the quality of the food provided to my father who is a picky eater. It was delicious and gave him a wide range of choices. Under very stressful circumstances during the pandemic the all worked with us so we could have tele visits with Dad as well as window visits and gave us the peace of mind to be able to see him even through a window. The entire community was kind and exceptionally considerate through a hard year.

Due to his experience back in the 60's and 70's he is now living with Parkinson's. Over the past few years he is finally taking advantage of the benefits that the VA has to offer. One of these benefits is a home health aide that comes to the house 3x week. We had been using Bright Hope Home Care for the past 2 years. In the beginning their aide was great and quickly became a friend to him. Unfortunately, she left for personal reasons. Over the past 9 months the service has gone downhill. There are certain regulations that the VA puts in place that the aide needs to abide by (which are different than a self-pay client). There were many instances over the past 9 months that the aide went against certain regulations. It was brought to her attention and to the attention of the Bright Hope Home Care administration many times. The feedback we got from administration was that all her clients love her. Ultimately, we had to ask for a new aide. With the new aide we dealt with service inconsistency. There were many days we didn't know if she or anyone was going to show up. Although when we asked about it, they would say they were not short staffed. The main reason for this bad review happened last week. We had decided it was time to try a new company but didn't want his service interrupted. We expressed to both the VA, Bright Hope, and the new company our intentions and planned for his service with Bright Hope end on Friday and the new company to start on Monday. When Bright Hope received this news they abruptly cancelled his service saying that they had no one to pick up the shifts for the following week. Thankfully, the new company was able to expedite their process and start on Wednesday.

The bathroom is shared by 4 patients and there was feces all over the toilet and the seat and when we complained the gentleman that came flushed the toilet and was going to leave until we said NO NO It MUST BE CLEANED It was so horrible!!! I asked the desk person for the password for the internet and she said exactly this, " I ain't sure what it is,you gotta go see the supervisor for it" HOW RUDE!!!!! The food is barely food. A hamburger that was tan????? Dont think so. This place gets horrible reviews for the state however they STILL LET IT STAY OPEN!!!! It needs to be shut down. We went to hang her clothes in her designated closet and there were NO HANGERS and the ceiling was falling in! Believe me, I have lots of pictures and I am going to share them with anyone that will look at them. Smells like waste and pee horrible. It is a joke!!! Please dont take someone you care about there. Almost at the entrance I find Alex sitting talking and laughing with another employee. I reminded her about needing the hearing aids, she was completely nonchalant about her just taking her good old time. I tried to tell a supervisor, but they haven't been available either.
