I have decided to write a review only because I did look on yelp and read reviews before my trip and I was terrified. I was at this hotel for work and the other hotels in the area where booked so I didn't have much choice. First of all - IT WAS NOT THAT BAD. I must say I came expecting a dump and it was by no means perfect but it was livable. I rented a refrigerator because they don't have them in all the rooms. The room we were in was on the ground floor opening up to the pool/garden. It was very cold while we were there and they brought us floor heaters. This is not a Four Seasons, I personally would not pick this hotel for a nice vacation. Keep in mind that this hotel is very very old. You can see how it used to be pretty spectacular back in its day. Also the staff was very helpful to us and accommodating. This hotel is either in the process of being sold or was sold and the management and owners have made it really difficult for the people working there. Before you get mad at the girl working the front desk keep in mind that the management probably hasn't given her the resources to help you. read more

The heated pool wasn't working the water was freezing. I didn't see the pool tables in the game room and the TV in the kids room wasn't working. It wasn't worth buying the group on. The hallways smell like old carpets on the level 100s everything was smelly the doors were broken. Some had tape on the door knobs. Bad experience for me. read more

My wife and I have stayed at the Lancaster Host six times (WBC annual convention). While the Host has always been a bit run down, this year was the worst by far. We had requested a refrigerator when we registered (a year in advance); when we arrived there were none to be had and we were placed on a wait list -- to no avail. We ending up going to Wawa to buy ice to fill a freezer chest, since the hotel's ice makers were out of commission. When we checked in, I had to call maintenance (twice) because the toilet rocked anytime you sat on it (the mounting bolts were rusted tight). The second time he put a shim under the toilet that reduced the rocking. The dresser had to be similarly shimmed (as soon as you put anything in a drawer, it would roll out to full extension). The sink was cracked (though apparently not leaking). At one point housekeeping changed the linens and towels ... and gave us back fewer towels than we had when we started. The towels were small, and the sheets thread-bare. At the start of our stay (Tuesday), the shower had good temperatures, but so-so water pressure. Starting on Friday, things went downhill. At 7pm I ran the shower for 10 minutes, no hot water. Saturday morning, 5am, same thing. 6:30am, same thing. Finally at 8:30am there was hot water for a shower. The breakfast buffet, while plentiful, was mostly inedible. Runny eggs, stale french toast or waffles, greasy bacon. The only thing good about it was that it was complementary (as compensation to the convention attendees for horrible conditions 2 years ago). When I spoke to the manager about the problems, he blamed the hotel operating company and suggested that I Google their number to complain. He did, however, comp us one nights stay for the inconvenience. If you drove around the hotel, you could see that maintenance was not being done on the property -- the driveway / parking lot was cracking and filled with pot holes. There was a rented boiler trailer (because the hotel boiler was out of commission); similarly there was a portable A/C unit for part of the function space. Many of the chairs and tables in the function areas were in disrepair. Every guest I spoke with had similar horror stories, and all came to the same conclusion: Next year we'll be staying anywhere else; starting in 2016 the convention will be held elsewhere. read more

bought the special on groupon. what a mistake. I looked at reviews after I bought the vaca. ( stupid me) . I have a 5 month old and can't stay in hotel with no AC. tried to call and cancel and the pine lined were always busy.sent an email to management got an automated message. I had to wait on hold at Groupon for 45 min for a refund. I've stayed in motels better then this. do us all a favor and update your photos on your website and groupon to show us your true side. read more

Wow I cant believe all the bad reviews. I've actually stayed at this hotel twice. And have nothing bad to say. I do admit that some renovation is needed in some areas. But the rooms that my wife and I stayed in were clean and everything in the rooms worked as they should have. The staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant food was more of a pub style fare (crab cakes for my wife and I had the fish fry) I didn't get a belly ache so I'm not complaining bout the food either. I don't know if would stay there if I had to pay full price. But thanks to Groupon overnight and weekend stays are very affordable. My only gripe is the fact that every time we've stayed here they had some kind of event and parking if you can find it is scarce (last year dance competition and this year a Bridge tournament) yes people Bridge! I guess I'll be back again in March if there's a groupon or untill I too have a bad experience. So far so good. read more

Biggest disappointment by far. The staff is friendly and everything seemed fine until I saw how dirty the carpet in the room was and how bad it smelled. Also before attempting to go for a swim with my daughter in the indoor pool, I noticed how cold and dirty the pool was. Body hair and other objects floating around. I couldn't even see the bottom floor through the 3 ft area. At night, while attempting to sleep, I hear loud moans and music. Definitely not a family oriented facility. Overall just a disaster. Can't wait to leave and never come back here. read more

We have stayed here several times for a convention. It's ok. It's a little run down but it looks like they are making improvements. The carpet in our room looks new and the shower faucet is new and has much better water pressure than previous years. I have read reviews of the ac not working in some rooms, but our room this year is so cold it's awesome! I am very hot natured abd even bright a fan with me just in case but I have been more than pleased with the temperature in our room. I even turned it off a couple of times because I was too cold, and I'm usually the person freezing everyone else out! The staff is helpful and attentive. I have no complaints. I have stayed at 3 other hotels on this same strip and will never stay anywhere but the Host when we are here for the convention. read more

Stayed here on a Groupon and the price was appropriate. Definitely would not pay the room rate of $200 per night. Back in the 50's and 60's this was probably the place to be in Lancaster but in 2014 not so much. The hotel is definitely dated, but for an overnight stay, not a bad choice, with Groupon. read more

My boyfriend and I got a groupon deal for the hotel without looking up reviews first, and reading the yelp reviews on the way to Lancaster made us fairly nervous, but by then there was nothing we could do about it. However, after staying the night, I can honestly say I have no idea what everyone else is talking about. Its definitely older on the outside, but on the inside its perfectly fine. The staff was nice and helpful, the pool was great, the room and hallways were clean and there was no "musty" smell that I could distinguish. Then again our area of the hotel seemed to be somewhat renovated (new carpets, furniture, wallpaper, etc). Only complaints - room service and the hotel bar closed kind of early... like 9... I mean, it was a Sunday, but still... -The appliances in the room were kind of old. I mean they all worked just fine, but the black box type TV definitely clashed with the otherwise modern looking decor, and the actual faucet of the sink and shower head were ancient, but again the rest of the bathroom was clean and well maintained... and the toilet was new, so that was good... -Oh and the pool was cold, not the water itself but the actual room... however, that probably had more to do with the single-diget temperature outside then the actual hotel... One thing I did like that may not seem like a big deal to others- the tissues were REAL Kleenex... not that crappy generic brand that most hotels use... So while a few minor things could use some work, all-in-all, it was nice and I would happily stay here again. read more

Very dated, carpet dirty, bottom of tub was peeling off, ice maker did not work, no frig in room .Very disappointed. This place was recommended by Visit PA , they must give them paybacks. They charged an very high rate because I had to book at the last minute. The room doors close very hard so I did not get much sleep. Very disappointed in this hotel... We have stayed there several times in the past and it was great......very sad to see how things have run down. The pool area had ripped AstroTurf. Snack bar was closed. Kiddy pool was filled in with sand, weeds were everywhere and cement cracked.. There was the big tent covering patio area which was filthy and falling down.. The rooms were terrible bed was awful bathroom had peeling bathtubs and sinks were just as bad.. Had to call front desk at 9pm because our room was never cleaned... Was going to try to talk my husband into staying third night but couldn't wait to get home after two nights... Very sad to see the decline of this once really nice hotel. read more

This was easily the worst experience at a hotel I have ever had. Had to stay here for a conference and the water was completely shut off in not only my room, but also the 6 other people who where staying in my group for the conference. The room had no working phone to call the front desk and everything appeared dirty. read more

I have been staying at hotels for ten year every weekend just about with a kid playing travel baseball. THIS IS THEE WORST HOTEL EVER. Check in: 4:00????? Been all over the world. Never a 4:00 check in I booked on booking.com ...next day called to verify/ never heard of me. Only stayed for pool and free breakfast on top of the 154.00 price tag ...NO FREE BREAKFAST...how much do you ask? 12.99. Are you kidding me. Bathtub was cruddy. If it wasn't Memorial Day weekend I would get the hell out here and go to another hotel. The Yelp reviews for this place are absolutely right on target. The carpets in the hallway are filthy, the bathtub and sink are cracked, the AC is not working. And to boot they "lost" my reservation. NEVER AGAIN. Spend the money and go somewhere else. It's not with the 20-50 you will save. UPDATE the hotel was evacuated because the ceiling collapsed. Luckily we found another hotel. What a disgrace! read more

We spent two days this week at Lancaster Host Resort, and found that it suited our needs perfectly. It is a little shabby and could use a remodeling, but the staff was great, the a/c worked fine, and the shower had good water pressure. The breakfast buffet had something for everyone, and it's one of the most family friendly places I have ever stayed. I can say that I would stay there again, if the opportunity arose. read more

If you're nostalgic for 80s decor or if you you're looking for a hotel reminiscent of The Shining, this place is for you! The place is about 10 years overdue for a major renovation. But it did the job. We stayed in the penthouse suite, which afforded more room than any suite I have ever seen. Two large bedrooms and a huge sitting room with open kitchen made the stay comfortable, despite the antiquated surroundings. It was a bit on the expensive side. However, the Breakfast buffet was excellent, with a vast array of breakfast foods. No need to leave the hot for breakfast. Best part about the place is that they allow dogs. read more

Stayed there this weekend until we were evacuated because there was water pouring from the ceiling. This is in addition to my friend's room filling with smoke on Friday night from an electrical fire in the ac motor that was broken and no smoke alarms went off nor did the hotel call the fire company to report the fire. Hotel hallways and room is dingy and musty. Room we had was renovated but still needed maintenance. For some reason the carpet was wet which only made sense once the toilet got flushed and over flowed for no reason. I had to turn off water in back to prevent it from going onto carpet. Previous guests must not of known to turn off in back and allowed it to overflow into the room. Regardless, this was unacceptable.We stayed there at a cheap rate because the wedding we attended was in the ballroom. Wedding space is very nice and food was great. Will never stay here again though. read more

came here for a training, which was great. However this hotel is possibly the worst in my experience. The room is okay, but there are signs of poor maintenance - cracks in the sink, the door lock is loose, the faucets are coming out of the surrounding area, etc. My first day here the gym and pool were closed for maintenance, so I ran on the "jogging path" behind the hotel, around the golf course. Poorly marked, a problem for an old lady like me. The next day the gym was open. Of the 5 machines, 2 did not work at all, and 2 were very old and hard to operate. The treadmill worked very well. There was a weight machine, but that also did not work correctly. The people at the front desk were wonderful and the maintenance staff seems very professional. But the place is falling apart. I would not stay here again under any circumstances. read more

It was awful. Smelled like wet dog. Could be because of all the barking dogs. When I complained the rude man at the front desk said "well the website does say it is a pet friendly hotel." Well if you used good business management you would have out the dogs in one wing and all the scrapbook era in another wing. Ceiling tiles coming down, sink cracked, just old and dirty. This establishment FAILED health and food inspection but neglected to inform their PAYING groups and parties of their negligence ahead of time. As a result, groups of 350+ attendees were notified LESS than 24 hours ahead of time. Needless to say our organization had to cancel our event with little to no explanation from the Lancaster Host Resort. We later learned they knew of the complication at least 5 days ahead of our scheduled event which is even more maddening. PLEASE do your thorough research on this establishment (it won't take much to find the negative) and you will quickly learn there are better alternatives in the Lancaster area. read more

I had my wedding there about a week and a half ago and I have to say I was rather impressed! We booked the date a year and a half ago and I was very scared after reading all the bad reviews and after the wedding coordinator we originally worked with was no longer there. We were suppose to have our wedding outside but unfortunately the weather did not cooperate. Good thing they had a Plan B and we had our wedding ceremony inside right next to where the reception was held. Of course I stood in the suite and it was huge! It had two bathrooms, the room looked just fine and was clean. The bed was comfortable and it did have a mini fridge. Yes the place is old but it just needs a little updating. Other than that, the staff was very helpful and friendly. I did eat breakfast there and it was fine, we did not get sick. For the wedding we started off with italian wedding soup, OMG it was amazing! We were totally surprised about that. The salad was great! We had beef with mashed potatoes and veggies and everything tasted soo good! After the wedding, I was told that everyone enjoyed their food and that the salmon was the best. Nobody complained about the food tasting bad or anything. My family is very picky and would have told me or the staff right away. The bartenders were also great. I asked for a chocolate martini and he gave it a shot and it was delicious! Again, nobody complained about their drinks. I even tasted a few and everything I tasted was great, mixed just right. So, from the Bride, the Groom and a picky family from NY, the place stood up to our standards as far as the food, staff and sizable rooms. IF you are too snooty about the old looks of the place then you should probably go somewhere else! Shout out to Raquel! You are amazing! I told your staff at the front desk to tell you thank you! We just came from a gymnastics meet at their new expo center. Unfortunately it was still under construction. The place had dust all over. It got in our eyes and all over our clothes. It was literally hazy. A huge disappointment. At the end they asked us not to walk on the mats so they didn't get dirty - they were more concerned about their mats than about their guests. read more

Don't waste your money. It is falling down and the rooms are terrible. Air conditioner did not work. When I called the front desk they brought me a broken fan which could not be turned on. I am going to write Temple University Medical School and strongly urge them to find another location in Lancaster to have the Family Practice Review course or hold the course in Philadelphia. You get what you pay for! For 1/2 price of the prevailing cost of a room in the area, it was ok. The place is old and in need of some major renovations. Do not stay here. The place is a dump. The ONLY reason I stayed is because I was at an event for 3 days that ran very late and started early each day...otherwise I would have gone elsewhere. The entire place has a funky smell. The first room I was in had a cracked tub and sink. The toilet was coming off the wall. We needed to call the front desk (which is NOT 24 hrs) but the phone in the room didn't work. Called from my cell. We moved to a new room that wasn't much better. There was NO A/C in the entire place and it took almost 2 days to get a fan brought to the room. The breakfast buffet may have been ok if the food wasn't cold. This place needs a complete overhaul. The staff was very nice and I honestly felt really bad for them because our event had booked alot of rooms and everyone I know of had complained, the staff tried to be as accommodating as possible. This is also not handicapped accessible. There is a cargo elevator only. But there are flights of stairs everywhere. read more

Book our room 2 months in advance. Asked for a balcony room with a view of the pool. Got there and went to our room only to find two large trees blocking our view of the pool and the rest of the area. First night went down to the bar and could not find a bartender to get a beer. next day went out the golf course to get a beer at the concession stand and it was closed! Went to the pool area concession stand and it was closed! probably won,t stay there again! read more

Checked out 1 day early (we were out by 10am, checkout is 11am) and they refused to refund our money. I feel that they basically stole $175 from my group. We were there as part of a conference and we prepaid for our rooms over 2 months prior to arrival. Rooms are terrible and out dated. Wi-Fi was a joke. All the bad reviews are coming from people who expect freebees, I bet they complain at restaurant's after they've eaten all their food and ask for a refund. My daughter just had her wedding at the host and before we got there I was hesitant to stay at this hotel because of the reviews. First of all, I stayed in a suit and the rest of my family had a double room. My family blocked out 18 rooms and not one complaint. Yes the carpet is old, but in most rooms there is new carpeting and up to date bathrooms. The only problem I ran into was that my door got stuck, they called someone to fix it and the problem was solved. If you want a gourmet breakfast for !0 dollars then you're eating at the wrong hotel, if you want a luxurious experience, then stay at the Ritz. Lancaster is an old town and this Hotel fits right in. Raquel is the wedding plainer for the Host and she did an amazing job and the girls behind the desk were very nice and accommodating. I would stay here again on my next visit to Lancaster. read more

This is the WORST and unprofessional hotel. A few months ago, my group booked 8-9 rooms. The bathrooms were dirty, I took a video of the dusty jacuzzi. I emailed the Sales Manager, Kathy Danz, who then explained that it was due to the renovation, she did not even apologize. The area where the rooms were located had very strong cigarette smells while it was supposed to be "non-smoking". When addressed about the situation, again, Kathy pushed the blame to the construction workers smoking in the area. No apology was offered, let alone compensation. My conclusion is, this Hotel (or Motel, rather) requires A LOT of personnel training. Thus, no I do not recommend this Hotel to anyone until they improve. read more

I wish I could post no stars. We got there early around 1pm and the girl behind the counter Immediately told me check in isn't till 4pm. Not a hello or welcome. Nothing. Place was completely empty and she would not check us in early. We went shopping and came back at 5. They give us a room and 4 hours later the AC still wasn't working in the room. The security guard was also maintenance and looked at the AC. Filters haven't been changed in decades and he laughed about it. They moved our room to a new location and now in this room the toilet was broken. The next morning we tried to get breakfast at 10:15 and they told us it closes at 10:30. We decided to eat elsewhere. The manager at the desk then told us they were open for breakfast till 11. and yelled at the worker in front of us. Wasn't about to eat there so the angry worker could spit in our food. Place is run down and needs major work. Don't stay here unless you have to. read more
