It has 2 platforms, one of which is NEVER USED unless there's some kind of kerfuffle further up the line and parking space is needed. There's one train to Glasgow every half hour during peak times in the week, and one per hour later at night and on Sundays.
The ticket office is functional, at best - no facilities of any kind. No ticket machine to use if the office is closed, so get your ticket from the man/woman/unicorn on the train. If the ticket office is closed, be warned - there is NO shelter from the elements.
There's an unused building on the unused platform that could easily be repurposed as a shop, a cafe, even just a waiting room with a roof! It has always been that way as far as I can remember, and seems a shame.
It's a railway station, and it does what it's supposed to do. Just don't ask for bells whistles, or even cover from the rain and snow. read more
