    Comfy bar stool

This place is a solid three star 24/7 dive bar with very comfortable bar stools with bonus points for the 24/7 part. Metry still allows smoking in the bars so that will drive me out of a place really fast but fortunately on my last visit nobody was committing smoke suicide. This is also a spot where you can get your bartender to cook you a burger and I had a discount coupon so I took a chance and tried the burger and I probably would never get the burger again unless it was 4am and there were no other options but there usually are better options even then so I would choose those. So just come here to drink drinks and play some chess or something like that.

I've driven past this little dive bar hundreds of times. The outside is lit up by a giant fluorescent sign. The Lamplighter. In Metairie, on lower Veterans, near the new Starbucks (or rather, recently moved), and right next to BK (actually, the parking lot is shared). And though I've never been much of a drinker, I was curious enough to look for reviews. I found the business on Yelp, but there were no words about it. I looked around a little more and found two lone reviews. The first one talked about how good one of the bartenders made burgers. The other one is the one that got me in the door. It said something like "cheap drinks, weird people....open late (never closes)". Its the weird people that did it for me. I, apparently am one of them. My first time there, I didn't even make it in the door before, someone said "I've never seen you before....what's your name?" or some such similar attention grabbing statement. I had to excuse myself just to get a drink. As was mentioned before, I'm not a big drinker, so the two drinks I have will be nicer. I'm not a Bud guy, or Miller, or PBR. I think those taste like crap. So I walked in and got an Abita Purple Haze for $3. All of the bottles are $3. Sam Adams, Newcastle, Red Stripe, the Abita crew, you name it. Everyone there is nice and welcoming. It's like a little vagabondish family. There are regulars, there all the time, and there are frequenters, a couple times a week. It's totally cool, they've got a video jukebox, so the music selection is excellent, compared to a CD jukebox. There are dart boards, but I've never seen people playing. I hear they're going to bring the pool table back inside eventually. So, it is with much reluctance that I put the word out about the Lamplighter bar and lounge. I almost don't want people to go and ruin it's quaint affection. It's like the dive version of Cheers. With weird people. I honestly didn't think I would find that in Metairie. If you're weird (excessively intelligent and creative) and seek the same, but do not want the hassle of driving (the 6 miles) to the French Quarter, stop on by. More younger drinking at night, much older during the mornings, not sure about the afternoons yet. But you get the picture.

I run a bar in Laplace so I came here for food after closing, 4-8-21. We ordered food and the bartender on shift became immediately irrate. She started begins to yell after making an order of wings that because inconsiderate customers ordered food that it would now take 20-30 mins for any food order or drink order. After cooking the order and told everyone they needed to leave and close out all tabs... I've paid for my food and am now being denied? This is bullshit! I'll gladly take her job of she's incapable of doing it correctly. I'd rate no stars if I could.

Hole in the wall with a good burger. Good place to find locals on the bar crawl. Could be worse I guess

One of the best burgers I have had. Fun clientele at 0200 on a Friday night. The bartenders were attentive.

The inside has side entrances that open to the outside area. Three major gripes... The place is wheelchair accessible as far as getting on the "porch." There is a ramp for it. But when asked whether there was a ramp to actually get inside to order a drink, we were told there is none. Disappointingly enough, none of the employees came near the entrance to make ordering easier. We had masks on, they did not, so it did not make sense why none of them came closer. The bar had no other patrons. Next, I am admittedly more apprehensive about sanitation, or a lack thereof, now. I was a bit taken aback that the whole process of making drinks and taking our order was done without gloves. I would not have cared had the bartender simply made drinks but squeezing the lemon and dropping it in the drink with her bare hands rattled my spirit. I don't know--maybe I'm being too anal. I just think proper hand washing or sanitation is more important than ever during COVID. Third, my friend was sure his Crown Apple was mixed with something else. We drink it enough to know. LOL. On this point, I will not say with 100% certainty it was diluted or mixed, but he was certain it was. Overall, I do not think this bar is terrible. It's a typical Metairie bar that sits in the middle of the suburbs. I also do not think it's unwise to stop in for a drink or to hang out. These are just my complaints.

This is a perfect example of a Metry dive bar…read more A friend invited me to this bar one night for a drink. Little did I know I was in for some serious culture shock. As my GPS directed me to this residential area, I was concerned that I may be in the wrong place. I saw the sign and knew I wasn't, so I headed for the door, or what I thought was the door. I am used to businesses having an entrance in the front center. This entrance was on the side, as if I were entering a house. My drinking buddy was already at the bar, so I pulled up a stool and ordered an Abita. The beer was cold and only $3.25. The bartender was very friendly. i attributed this to the fact that she told me she had been drinking since two. Normally I frown upon drinking and working, but it worked for her. This bar has karaoke, but didn't have any Lil Wayne, B.G. or Juvenile. Because the Nola rap selection was lacking, i was unable to impress the crowd with my amazing rap skills. They did have P-Control by Prince, but even after listening to his version, I wasn't drunk enough to attempt it. Oh well, there is always next time. This bar had some awesome things going for it. Here are some examples: Behind the bar was a woman with a flat iron straightening her hair. An older gentleman with an amazing mullet. The bartender making it rain with napkins, then bending at the waist to pick them up all while shaking her moneymaker. A very cool conversation with a singer about the origins of the Edmund Fitzgerald melody. I want to rate this bar higher because of the awesome things going on, but I just cant. While I enjoyed it, this isn't the area I would normally go out.

They have a pretty good wine and beer selection, but they shine on their signature cocktails, of which there are so many that I could not reasonably list here, some of which rotate out regularly to keep variety up. Everything, and I mean *everything*, is reasonably priced, if not outright cheap. (5 stars) Service: Usually just a single bartender, except during shift changes, but the place is small enough, that is more than enough. All the 'tenders are friendly and efficient. (5 stars) Facilities: Martine's is located in a strip mall along Metairie Road. It's easily accessible from the Bonnebel exit off I-10. Signage is ample, but you have to be familiar with the turns along the street to be prepared to find it. There is some parking out front, and, as one goes to bars mainly at night, there isn't any competition for space then. There is a pool table, video poker, and what looks to be a non-functioning/unplugged pinball machine (never asked about it). The inside is smallish, and can probably hold about 50 people seated, including tables and bar stools. There is also outside seating available. It's clean, but, for whatever reason, the cigarette smoke lingers in the place. The management is aware and tries to work with customers on this angle. The decor is appropriate, with a saloon feel to it. (4 stars) Bonus 1: free pizza weeknights Bonus 2: free wings on Wednesday with Trivia Overall: The only things I dislike about this place are that it isn't walking distance from my place and the heavy cigarette smoke that makes my eyes burn. Check it out, especially if you like trivia (4 stars)
