The Tavern on Vets is a great dive bar with some fantastic food. They have a LOT of great specials for BOTH food and booze. The biggest negative for me is that this is a smoking bar and while they do have a HUGE space that usually makes the smoking not such a problem that changes fast during the peak Friday nights when they offer their 2 for 1 burger special when it gets so smoky that I can't handle it. My visits during the weekday seemed quite pleasant but the crowded weekends just get far too smoky for me unfortunately. The burgers and ribeye steaks here are fairly priced and better than you get at many far fancier and way more expensive restaurants. I've eaten a LOT of steaks and enjoyed plenty of good steak nights around the New Orleans area but the ribeye here is by far one of the best I've had anywhere. The service at the bar and at the tables is quick, friendly and overall just a great experience. This is some of the best bar food I've had anywhere and just one of the best options for a great steak and burger at a great price anywhere. This is still my favorite bar in Kenner. Super chill atmosphere. One of the better places to watch a game as all their TVs are always on sports. Tim is the best on the grill. Stephanie is usually there and she is quick on her feet. Love the ribeye, wings, and burgers here. Food is awesome at the Tavern. Really like this place & is our "go to" neighborhood bar for a drink & bite to eat, & I think they have the best wings around, BUT ..... if your sign says, & every ad you have online / social media says you are open till 2am STAY OPEN till 2 am! Was 1:20 am & just finished working w/ plans to stop here on my way home to eat, but low & behold all doors locked & closed up shop!! Willing to bet you lost out on around $700 in sales w/ the 2 car loads of people & the motor bike that all pulled up together w/ me only to be turned away just cuz u didn't feel like working till you're actually SUPPOSED to close. I've been to this spot a few times now so I think it's about time to talk about it. ToV is one of those spots that I tend to love because it's just like a locals type dive bar-ish spot with good food at good prices and cold drinks. They play all the sports on TV's all around the bar and they have a pool table and three dart boards. I've had three different burgers in my three trips in but I've also tried bites of the ribeye wrap, fresh tuna, pork chop, loaded tater tots, etc. Everything I tried was good at the very least, most things very good. If you're looking for flashy or upscale dining though...go somewhere else. This is just real food by real people done well. The one criticism I will leave is that they would greatly benefit from a better roll for the burgers. I enjoy them cooked medium rare - medium and if you don't eat them quickly the bun will start to deteriorate. Taking on the cost for a few more cents for a stronger bun would really take this to the next level. An old draft, but I just need to post this because I've been vaguely referring people to "this one place" whose food I liked in NOLA since forever. -- We arrived in New Orleans after midnight and the only thing still open and serving food was Tavern on Vets, boasting a huge grade A ribeye steak with a side potato salad for $12.95. At around 1am, this place had about eight people sitting around drinking, playing pool, and eating. + Open and serving food until 3am. + Next to Sonics and another diner. - Can smoke indoors. + The ribeye steak was very, very good! (and this is coming from a non-meat eater) It is so well seasoned. + The potato salad, oh the potato salad is GOOD. If you are given the choice between potato salad and baked potato, choose the potato salad with your steak. If I'm ever back in NOLA, I'd head back in this direction again and try out some of the fries a lady claims is to die for. read more

Great place to grab a cold beer and a football game. Dropped in on a Sunday when the Saints were playing and the crowd was great. Staff is awesome and the prices are decent. Came in with some friends after a long night. Was excited for my friends to try their food. Little did I know, this would be the longest wait for food ever. The waitress took 20 mins to take our order. My friend who lived an hour away was getting worried because it was getting really late. We waited over an hour so he asked to cancel his order and headed home. The rest of the group decided to wait. The food didn't come out until an hour and 30 mins later. The waitress seemed disinterested in serving us. After I paid for the bill, I received the receipt that said "Chinese group". I felt that she had stereotype us and discriminated against us. Met a friend out here for a few beers during the holiday season. He was working as a mall Santa and Tavern On Vets was located next to the hotel he was held up in. Pool tables, video poker machines and a bar that was not lacking in options. We went pint for pint with Christmas Ales while enjoying the friendly atmosphere and excellent music playing on the sound system. It seemed to be a local neighborhood bar but we weren't treated like outsiders. The bartender and even the fry cook were charming and affable. We had a blast. After round three we decided to get something to eat and were presented a menu with several options. Appetizers including chicken Quesadilla rolls, cheese sticks, onion rings, boudin balls AND Gator Balls. Several burgers, chicken strips, porks chops and more also served there. . Lots of choices but we split and order of 20 chicken wings. The hardest part was choosing among the flavor choices, there were at least ten. I ordered Cajun, he ordered sweet chili glaze. We each had ten a piece. Wow. They were cooked to perfection. At the end of the night I told him I'd make it out there again before his tenure was up but I never did. I should have. Tavern On Vets is a pretty cool bar with great food. I found this place on Yelp and went to try it was a couple of friends. When trying to get here, I had no idea where it was because it was behind American Pie Diner. The bar was not smokey like other reviewers had said it usually was. There were a few dining tables and plenty of bar seats. We were not sure if they did table service or we had to order at the bar, but a server came to bring out menus and got us our drinks. We ordered the Mango Cajun Wings, Boudin Balls, Double Bypass Burger, Large Ribeyes, Tater Tots topped with Chili, Baked Potato Salad and Fries. The appetizers came out relatively fast with the wings were steaming hot with a nice aroma. There were so many wing flavors, so we chose a flavor that seemed unique to us. The Mango Cajun wings were an excellent choice for us because it was the perfect amount of spice and sweetness put together! The boudin balls looked like every other boudin ball, but they were seasoned nicely and were so good! The entrees came right before we finished our appetizers, so that was great timing. The Double Bypass Burger was huge! I am so glad my friend did not order the Triple Bypass Burger or else he might have really gotten a heart bypass. From what he told me, it was a good burger! The Ribeyes were a great size, cooked to the right temperatures, and were seasoned well. I had the baked potato salad for my side, which was a unique choice I thought. It was like a baked potato in the put into a ball shaped like how potato salad is normal served. It was interesting and a decent side choice. Overall, a good bar with great food. I definitely recommend their wings, I would 10/10 order more wings next time and try out their other flavors. Our server was attentive and helpful with food recommendations. First of all, the best part about this bar is that no smoking is allowed. David and I stopped in here to see a band, and although the place is small it's full of really good people. I wish they had a better beer selection, but I was pretty happy with my purple haze. Because of the band, they got a good little crowd but the bartenders handled it well. This was the first venture since everyone has been vaccinated, so nobody was wearing a mask. I feel comfortable and everything was handled well. Immediately when we walked in we could smell burgers cooking. Even from someone who doesn't eat burgers, the smell was very inviting. We made our way to the bar to find a pretty decent draught beer selection. My husband and I got a drink a sat down to browse the menu. My husband decided to get the heart attack burger and I had some chicken wings. The burger was huge! My husband loved the burger but was not a fan of the bacon. The thick cut bacon was deep fried and not what he was expecting. He said it was pretty tough to eat. I took a bite of the burger, which is a big thing for me, and I didn't hate it. Again, I hate ground meat and can't usually get it down. The wings were super crispy and they have lots of flavors to choose from. One downsidek to the place are that when the burgers are cooking the place gets super smokey.
