I have been here twice, and it's my husband's favorite spot for steak sandwiches. I'm in love with the hangover burger. The staff is very welcoming. On my first trip here I won $200 playing video poker for my first time ever. The lady sitting next to me was teaching me how to play. It's pretty low key here unless there is a game on. If you are going to find me at a local bar in Kenner, this is it. The Tavern on Vets is a nice local sports bar with plenty of offerings. The food is cheap, plentiful, and good! For such a small kitchen they do pump out a large selection of food. I would recommend the steaks, burgers, or chicken wings. The steak dinners are by far the largest sellers and come in 8 or 16 oz cuts. They have a few types of burgers that are always big and juicy. The chicken wings have a whole page with different flavors to choose from. The beer and mixed drink selection is pretty large. The bar stretches almost the entire length of the building. Each day has a diffrent drink special which most are very good. There are around 10 different taps to choose from. Unfortunately normally one or two are out. I do wish they would start carrying some more local craft beers since there has been explosion in breweries in NOLA lately. They have recently added Urban South Holly Roller and The Parish Canebrake on tap which is a huge plus. Since it is a sports bar, they have plenty of things to do. There are like 12 TVs which always have sports on. They carry all the big UFC fights, in which those nights they charge a small cover to come in. They have dart boards, pool tables, Golden Tee, and video poker machines. There is a new digital jukebox that has a massive selection. On Friday nights they have a live DJ that plays most of the night. The only big negative I have is the place can get really smoky. They do allow smoking in the building. On really busy nights, the combination of cigarettes and the food grill the place can get very smoky. Sometimes they have to crack open the doors to clear out the smoke. If you are in the area or staying at one of the nearby airport hotels, I would recommend stopping by to grab a drink and some food. read more

Every time I come in town I get a steak here. One of the best steaks you'll have. And it's only $20!!! I've had $40 steaks that wasn't near as good as these. Potato salad is awesome too. I've only come here to watch pay per view fights but those days are over until they invest in some smoke eaters. The amount of smoke in the air is ridiculous. I'm not even one of those people who cant stand the smell, but my eyes were burning just sitting in there. My clothes had to immediately get washed. I had a hangover just from the smoke in my lungs. Plus to make up for the cost of the fight, they charge men $10 to get in and then bump up the price of every drink. This place just isnt for me anymore. read more

This place was great. I got the steak and baked potato salad which is just a cold baked potato, it's not potato salad, as a Cajun I was confused about that but it was great. Wife got the wings and loved them. Great beer selection and the waitress was super nice and attentive. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because you can still smoke inside but the smell of the food overpowers it so it's not that bad. read more

This place used to be so amazing. During my college years, I went here every single Tuesday for the $12 ribeye special. $12 for a thick and juicy 16 ounce ribeye with a salad. Now, the ribeye is $16 and not even close the the size or quality it used to be. Still a cheap steak is a cheap steak. But it was thin and fatty and I threw half of it away because it was true fat. I have found my new bar for sporting events! My husband and I didn't know where to go to have some good bar food, beer, and watch the UFC fight. Thanks to the lovely reviews we gave this place a try. I recommend getting there early to get good seats during sporting events. We got there an hour before the main event. Luckily we got our hands on a high top table! Wasn't sure if we get waited on or have to go up to the bar. The waitress/bartender came up grabbed our order. She was super friendly and made it feel so comfortable to be there. Services a great. Be patient though, it takes a while for food to cook, especially during busy times. We ordered mild wings and a cheeseburger. I must say the wings here are great! I will no longer go to BWW for plain mild wings. The burger on the other hand is HUGE! My husband and I shared it. Cheap great price for some good bar food. Strong drinks as well! They are not cheap with their alcohol. Only con is when this place is busy and the grill is going, it gets very smokey in there. Sat at the bar, ordered a Happy Hour $1.75 Blue Moon and watched the chef prepare this beast! Two 1/2 lb hand made burger patties, the real deal, and cooked to perfection. Watching him plate it, which was a feat onto itself and looked on in amazement as he put it down in front of me! I hated to deconstruct it, but it was impossible to take a bite! This is literally my third time coming here in 7 days. First go round Meme was my bartender, she was really busy yet really attentive. She remained extremely personable with all the guests even while dealing with the obnoxious drunk girl who offended the couple next to my brother & myself. She was fast with the drinks and they were so perfect! Second time I came in after work midweek, thank God the kitchen closes at 2:15am because I was starving and needed a drink and Ashley took care of me, I'm a quiet one at a bar remained in my phone but she really made sure I knew she was MY bartender. The same guy every time has been working the kitchen, and I'm telling you he is legit (exude my French) FUCKING IT UP. My food never had a wait and it's always hot and good . I'm sitting here for my third time waiting on my food which literally starred as soon as my order was taken & I was immediately taken care of. I love this place and the prices. Meme you don't know but I love you cause soon as I walked up to the counter it was just a warm welcome and offer for service. Came in and sat down, was immediately pressured for our IDs just to look at a menu. We were staying at the hotel directly behind the bar so we didn't bring them, but that was fine. Came back with our IDs , bartender kept rushing us to order. Had to ask for a menu three times while she asked what we wanted to order. While we looked at the menu, she stood there tapping her nails on the bar as if we were holding her up. Attitude was just off from the moment we walked in. Gave our food order to the cook because once she walked away, she never came back to us. The cook was very nice and the food was great however we had nothing to drink not even a glass of water. every now and then a few friends of mine come here for drinks and a good meal. i've heard the main attraction is the steaks, as that's what they always get, but i come here for the bbq hawaiian burger. it's always so juicy and perfectly cooked, it's almost too much to eat. throw on some of their potato salad and you've got a perfect meal. the only downside is the music is SO ridiculously loud no matter where you are in the place that it's almost hard to hear yourself think, let alone what your friends are saying to you. that's really the only reason i can't give a full 5 stars. but no matter how loud it is, i'm gonna keep coming back for that burger and potato salad. read more

Staying in a hotel that's right next door and I heard they had really good steaks so we walked over to check the place out. We both ordered steaks. She had the small one and I ordered the big one. They brought the small one out and then we waited about 7-8 minutes for the other one. That wasn't a good thing. The steaks have excellent flavor probably some of the best flavoring on a steak I've ever had. The downside of the larger steak was a lot of fat and gristle left when I got done. I give about 2 stars to the actual steak and 5 stars for flavor. I'd try it again. Maybe it was one poor steak. read more

What. the. hell. iiiiiiiiiiiiis this place? In good company any place can seem ok, but the surrounding crowd was enough to scare me away after an hour. Granted it was a ppv ufc that night so we may have walked into a rougher crowd. It quickly became a hostile environment when a girl who was ready to throw down because a chair got in her way. How dare you, chair! The bar was quickly overrun with only 2 bartenders and an impatient angry mob. I made a quick escape and avoided eye contact at all costs. read more

I have been here a few times when I wanted a late lunch. The wings are good here-- rather tasty-- I have also had the nachos here which I have enjoyed. The cook was friendly and talkative which I appreciated. The two stars are for the bartender. I ordered another beer which I never got and had to ask the "nighttime" bartender to get me a soft drink since her day counterpart never returned. Amazingly enough, she did find time to bring me my bill and waited for change which never arrived. I understand regulars do get serviced faster than those who visit occasionally and it seemed she spent most of her time on the opposite side of the bar having a great time chatting it up. Please remember those "regulars" are individuals who started like me-- picking a place to visit and if the food and service are good you continue to visit there. I can be a regular JOE and will go there again. I hope the bartender is a little more attentive the next time or I can bring my business elsewhere. read more

The rib-eye steak was fantastic with their special spices. Young guy waiting on our table did OK, but this is a bar, more than a restaurant. The "barmaids" looked pretty wore out. The TVs were super loud. Choice of beers were good. The crowd was on the edge of rough. The place looked grungy...the whole place needs a good steam clean and refurbishment. Ok, so this is my second night in a row here. I am surprisingly amazed at the quality of the food for a Sports Bar. Tracy the Bartender is very Attentive and gracious. Tracy suggested the Bone in Pork Chop. It was by far the best damn Chop I've ever had. Unfortunately my job here is winding down and I must leave to go back home. In the event you're anywhere close to here traveling, stop in and get a cold beer and the Pork Chop or anything else on the menu. read more
