Owned by Stu Lambert until his passing, then purchased by someone who ran it into the ground, was purchased again by one of Stu's longtime employees. it's now Jeff's 76 and he also owns the small 76 on Broadway. The service is excellent! Jeff puts the same care that Stu put into his client's cars. They wont rip you off, and they try to get to the root of the problem in the most cost effective way for the client. Jeff had my car for over 24 hours after my car died three times on my way home from work. After running tests, he asked if he could keep it overnight so he could drive it around town and see what was wrong. He said it might be an ignition switch and spent a lot of time on the phone with Honda. After finding out that the switch would cost $500, he decided to look at other options. He turned the car on and off several times, and my car did something that made him think it was the battery. He said "let's start with the battery. It's the most cost effective route." That battery has been in my car for five months now and I haven't had any issues! What service! And all for the cost of a battery. My family has been going here for years and I plan to continue doing business here for years to come. 04.18.12 - Updated My car died again in December. I took it back to Jeff's. After doing some research, Jeff discovered that there was a recall on my car for the ignition switch. He told me to take it to Honda and they would take care of it for $0.00. Terrible customer service! I called and booked an appointment for a diesel 2013 MB Sprinter Van. The guy on the phone said we can get you in at 8:30am tomorrow. When I went the next morning I was told they can't do diesel's..when I said the guy who booked my appointment said you could smog it, I was told "oh well" and then condescendingly told, "to have a nice day" while the guy had a smirk on his face and a thumbs up. read more

We were in town for a short visit and when we started home, our "check engine" light came on. We stopped at Jeff's and he took us in immediately and said he would run the diagnostic check. We walked around town for 45 minutes and returned to have him tell us what the problem was, but that we could make it home safely. Not only was he honest, but he did the diagnostic for no charge!!!. When you have car problems away from home, you are vulnerable to a mechanic that can overcharge you for things you don't need. Jeff was just the opposite of that...he was honest, friendly and very helpful. If I lived in Sonoma, I would definitely be taking my vehicles to him on a regular basis!!! Lambert's is now Jeff's 76 Service Station on Napa St. in Sonoma., 2 blocks from the square. Jeff worked for the Lambert Family for many years. I ran into him while Lambert's was the AAA Tow Service for the Area, 15 + years ago. He was the Smog and Fuel System Specialist, and a First Class Mechanic. Integrity and Honesty Galore. All his employees have followed him faithfully, does that tell you something.; Liz, Lonnie and Mike. His Operation is Sonomas Best. He can tweek my 30 year old Porche 911 to perfection. Quick points: -Talked to mechanic within 5 minutes of arriving (Mechanic not secretary) -Mechanic spent time listening to my issue and recommended a course of inspection BEFORE putting on the rack. -Mechanic was familiar with my vehicle -Car was ready in much less time than i expected and was returned clean and parked safely away from work areas. -Jeff (owner) asked me to take it for a drive to make sure I was satisfied with the work before reaching settlement. -Price I paid was fair and transparent. The long story: These guys are great, service like this is hard to find. I recently bought a 2005 Ford Escape and it had a very concerning noise in the front end at low speeds. I also have worked as a mechanic years ago before my overseas service but i don't have a lift and was forced to bring it to a shop and i was worried about the "we found a serious problem" line that is way to common in so many auto shops. I actually met with Jeff the owner of the shop, every bay was full and vehicles were lined up in waiting. Jeff had the time to discuss my issues and ask me about the vehicle. He had some ideas about the front stabilizer links because he is familiar with the model. However, it turns out that i had just replaced them the day before, he said ok that was a wise choice but since it didn't fix the issue he would raise it on the rack and have one of his employees take a look underneath (Mike was his name). I left the shop to walk to the market and buy a sandwich and returned about a hour later. When I returned I saw my SUV parked out of the bay. I was just about to ask Jeff when he had time to work on my car when he saw me and told me it was ready for test drive! he explained that Mike saw loose bolts in the front end near the sway bar bracket/bushings and proceeded to tighten them and checked/tightened the rest of my front end bolts. He said that they test drove the car and didn't hear the clunking anymore and he asked me to take it for a drive and if see if i could reproduce the noise. He said if I wasn't satisfied that it was fixed the would look further but it was his judgment that the loose brackets were the problem. I took it for a 15 minute test drive and was amazed and pleased that my car didn't need extensive work. I returned to the shop for settlement wondering what kind of charges he would apply. But before we talked price he asked me about the test drive and if i was pleased with the repairs and seemed genuinely concerned about my satisfaction. He told me that he was only going to charge me for half of the hourly rate which i thought was exceptionally fair. more of my opinion: I wanted to add that my problem is really goldmine for a small auto shop. i have experience here, i have worked in a few and i know easy it is for example to be able to fix the front end by tightening bolts and then telling the customer that something like the outer tie rods ends need replacement and of course after the tie rods are done recommending an alignment. this adds labor hours and parts profit for the shop. After the customer receives the car they don't hear the sound anymore and assume the mechanic has correctly fixed the issue and is never the wiser that it was just loose bolts. The extra income is almost impossible for struggling shop owners to pass on however Jeff and his crew where nowhere near that temptation. and seemed as happy as i was that it was a easy fix. Give these guys a shot I don't think you will regret it i drive all the way from Santa Rosa now to go to this shop and i think they are the honest to god fairest mechanics you can find. read more

I used to go to Sonoma Tires but their customer service has diminished dramatically, it's night and day between the two businesses.
