Tofu Scramble and line up the mimosas for a perfect Sunday morning.
    Halim C.

It's a routine come here before Point Isabel dog park. Order tofu scramble and 3 mimosas(it's a good deal) and then walk it off with the dogs.

    Cranberry Cheese cake

One of our favorite nights to go is Thursdays where the dinner special is a 3 course meal consisting of a melt in your mouth beef brisket! We had the Mushroom soup for starters Very tasty and not too salty! I'm not much of a dessert eater but their cranberry cheesecake is absolutely delicious! Service is always fast and friendly. Very casual setting but food is really good comfort food!

The coffee here was very good followed by the breakfast potatoes and mini pancakes. It was a very positive experience. I visited here for brunch on a rainy day and the environment was very positive with good customer service despite the chaos outside.

This is a 20 dollar steak sandwich they recooked the meat and resalt it

Wow I am leaving this place scared for my life ! The onwers daughter is very aggressive and she chased me down in the restaurant put her finger in my face and cussed at me and called me names because I asked for a refund on my steak sandwich?! Let's start from the beginning When you walk in all the tables are sticky like they wipe them down with dirty rags and water ! But I go and order a stake sandwich it cost 20 dollars The steak came out it was old meat at least two days old and they resalted it and recooked it to make my sandwich the meat was really hard and salty like beef jerky! And they give you just bread meat and half a tomato for 20 bucks no mayo lettuce cheese peppers or anything else all that cost extra by the time your done they want 30 dollars The fries were a complete after thought you can tell they have those fries sitting there all day they throw them on the plate to make it look like 20 dollars worth of food In the end I was able to beg for my refund but be careful the girl will threaten you as she give you a refund Side note the girl ran and put a cup of salt at the door before I left ! Some sort of spell or ritual so now it obvious they practice witchcraft here at this Restaurant You can tell they are not making it as a whole I advise you to spend your money elsewhere What's funny is that you can see the level of aggression they have at this place they replied to my yelp with a lie I did not eat the sandwich because it was not safe to eat this whole problem is because I asked for a refund! If your a decent business it shouldn't bug you to offer your customer a refund that give the impression that they are a struggling business that's why they re use food and don't waste there meat serving me two day old meat is bad practice

    Fresh mint mojito

Late lunch by car repair. The staff came outside to the little garden boxes and picked the mint for my drink, and brought out a dog water bowl. Good food. Ollie (the dog) hated it because I didn't share my yummy beet salad.

    Fried chicken and waffles

Service was great! Very friendly and efficient. The ambiance was very chill. The pancakes and waffles were to perfection. The boneless fried chicken was overcooked and needed seasoning. However I do understand that not everyone likes flavor. Other than that - everything else was great and will come to try other things on menu

    Organic Tofu Scramble

Lama Beans Cafe is a restaurant I've passed by throughout my life but was never drawn to. My friend spoke highly of the options and affordable cost, so on a breakfast whim I chose to take my cousin and me here. The restaurant is unassuming inside and outside--open seating for small and larger groups plus tables outdoors. For breakfast and lunch it's counter service. Order and pay and your items are brought to you while water is self-serve. The vibes are quite casual and neighborhood-like like with service being friendly and efficient. For brunch, I got the Organic Tofu Scramble. The dish came with toast, home fries, and their trio of sauces. Portions were nicely sized for the price. I felt that the tofu scramble could've been seasoned more and some parts of the dish tasted a bit flat, so that's when the sauces did the saving. My cousin had the Country Omelet and said it hit the spot. For those in Berkeley looking for a no-frills neighborhood spot, Lama Beans Cafe is adorable and has decent food. The restaurant is located off Gilman St. with street parking in the area. Not sure if I'll be back anytime soon but I'm glad to have tried it.

    Housemade Corned Beef Hash Breakfast
    Basil S.

First time at this place, recommended by a coworker of mine. Safe to say I wasn't disappointed. Off the bat, good friendly service and the inside gave me Lake Tahoe diner vibes. The food was good and definitely hit the spot. My friend and I shared each other meals so I was able to try the corned beef hash which I ordered for myself and her eggs blackstone. Both were delicious and having me wanting to come back for more and to try other things on the menu. We ended the meal by splitting a dozen silver dollar pancakes. These were really good, I thought it would be tough by the look of it but it was nice and fluffy. Perfect with butter and syrup. Overall this place is great so far and has become part of my Berkeley brunch list rotation. The only downside I would say is parking. Had to park about 2 blocks away and around 4-5 blocks away are a lot of homeless encampments. But that's becoming the norm in the Bay Area...

So we ate very quickly and packed his up. The mahi was dry, the green beans were mostly yellow (old), the couscous good, melted in your mouth except for the pieces that were literally hard as rocks (maybe rocks?). The waitress forgot about the non alcoholic drink, when reminded after 40 minutes, she apologized and it came in 10 minutes and was way too surgery... was supposedly ginger, elderberry, lime (hmm... didn't taste the elderberry and the drink was clear no blue/purple so ...?) too much trouble to get the waitress and ask about this. A search on this website resulted in Marica having it on their menu. He booked a 7:30 PM reservation for two. We arrived early. What started out as a not too pleasant experience for us was the attitude of the guy who greeted us when we entered the restaurant. Attitude bordered on rudeness (3 star). We somewhat tolerated it, not knowing what to expect next. The restaurant was filled with diners, and the only available seating was not far from the front door. Oh, the chill was in the air, and my not wearing a sweater and/or light jacket to stay warm had me shivering. I had to brave the element (LOL). Since there was no Chilean sea bass on their daily special menu, it took a little longer for my companion and I to peruse the menu, and decide what entrees we were willing to have. Usually I would order an Arnold Palmer as a beverage; however, this time I decided to be adventurous - reisling peach spritz please - to whet my appetite. My date had the Temescal pilsner. Eats: Grilled salmon arange ginger saffron blanc beurre, roasted potatoes and vegetables. Korean short ribs, honey garlic gochujang marinade, mashed potatoes and vegetables. Our meals were on point and bomb-diggity delicious. The arange ginger saffron was perfect with the carrot. It reminded me of glazed carrots. The green beans were fresh and not overcooked. Ooh, the Korean pork ribs were tender and that sauce was sweet and had a subtle kick of spiciness. (Definitely a perfect complement for the pork ribs.) I have to admit the chef knew how to burn. Food tasted so good that figuratively speaking y'all gotta slap the cook and his mama. Ambiance: Comfy and casual. Despite the dining area is small, still it is a great restaurant for dining on a Friday evening. From my perspective and vivid imagination with the indoor lighting, it exuded a romantic atmosphere. Only in my mind I can hear soft jazz in the background. What convinced me to give Marica a 5 star rating? It was none other than Enriqueta, our waitress. She was pleasant, attentive and so accommodating. The chef lost our order ticket; thus, the wait time for our meal took a bit longer than we anticipated. She came to the rescue and comped us with dessert - chocolate souffle with homemade vanilla ice cream. It certainly was a gesture of kindness to have my date and me smiling from ear to ear. Return visit? Yes, mos def...not the rapper for Chilean sea bass. Enriqueta said I can always call to find out what their daily special is.

The food was phenomenal, the service was superb, and the ambiance was stunning. Sitting by the water while enjoying an incredible meal made the whole experience feel special from start to finish. What truly made this visit unforgettable, though, was the kindness from the staff and manager. I noticed a small plant sitting off to the side that caught my attention. It reminded me so much of my mother, who recently passed and was a huge plant lover. Since losing her, caring for plants has become something deeply therapeutic for me. I jokingly offered to buy the plant, and instead, the manager kindly gifted it to me. That simple act of compassion meant more than they will probably ever know. On a day that can feel heavy while grieving a mother, they gave me a little piece of comfort to take home. Beautiful restaurant, beautiful people, and a kindness I won't forget. It has an amazing waterfront/courtside view of the Bay, dock access to a ferry (I think it's Hornblower?), and a lot of natural light and open space. They also have a new chef and friendly staff. My homegirl and I started with the Green Curry Mussels, and they were definitely flexing like Mr Olympia. The curry broth was the star -- 10/10. We dipped everything in it: bread, fries...hell, it would have made tree bark taste good. I had the fish and chips, and the cod was perfectly battered like an amateur boxer in his first pro fight. Crispy, golden, and lightweight. My homegirl's cioppino was a little too tomato-heavy, so the waitress had the chef remix it. He did by adding more garlic, and it went from mid-sauce to perfect. I hope they keep that change! The staff said the new chef is considering updates to the long-stagnant menu -- and clearly, he's listening. They do need to bring the price of everything on the mini down about $5 :-), or else have happy hour specials. The restaurant got quiet after a cruise group hopped on a boat. It was relatively empty, and it totally has to be because of the marketing. If you're thinking of a nice alternative to Skates By The Bay (also very delicious!), It's a nice detour. This spot deserves more love. We'll be back.

This place is off the beaten track, so unless you frequent Ashkenaz or something like that, you'd probably never know about it. It's worth the trek up there. Hey they have a parking lot, a truly RARE thing for any restaurant in Berkeley! Wow! You don't have to drive around looking for parking and then walk 3 blocks, or put money in the damn meter! Just drive up there and park! We ordered Arrroz con Mariscos, or as they call it, Paella Peruana, and it was delicious. It's basically like Mexican rice, orange rice with peas, and then they add shrimp, mollusks, i forgot what else. They serve it on a sizzling hot pan for show. The owner said get family size but i figured one order would be a lot of food and yes, it was, enough for leftovers. We got some bread for a very reasonable price, and a nice fresh green salad with hard boiled eggs and olives, very good. We didn't care for the dessert, maracuyá mousse. I thought it was just boring, hardly any flavor. I couldn't even finish my half (we shared it). I love maracuyá agua fresca, which has flavor that explodes in your mouth. Well, this doesn't. It's just a sweet creamy rather bland dessert. Our waiter was Cristián, and we enjoyed chatting with him. Service was excellent. It made the night. We also loved the decor, metal animals based on the Nazca lines in the Peruvian desert. That is refreshing, when other Peruvian restaurants all seem to focus only on Andean decor. Perú is very diverse, and has many indigenous cultures as well as African, Asian, Spanish, wow, really interesting, and the Andes are only one fascinating aspect. Overall we had a really enjoyable night. A friend i used to have opened a Peruvian restaurant in Contra Costa county. She said the Peruvian customers would gripe & complain no end about the food not being real, not authentic, no good, totally sucks, whatever. She commented that there are many Peruvian spices and chiles you just can't get here, so it was impossible to make real authentic Peruvian food. Also they couldn't find any Peruvians to hire as cooks so they hired Mexican cooks and trained them. Well, Mexicans may be fabulous cooks, but they don't know anything about Peruvian food, so it never really came out right, except the days my friend was there cooking herself. So the restaurant went under. I see many Peruvians here complaining similarly about this place, el Mono. Hey give them a break, for the above reasons. If you want 100% real Peruvian food, buy a ticket and fly to Perú. Anyway i asked, and the cook who made our food that night IS Peruvian. We'll have to go back some day, as the menu has so many options and it was hard to decide. We wish this place well, and encourage everybody to go try it out.
