This office is AMAZING. I have been coming here for years, even after I moved to New York 8 years ago I gladly fly here for their services. I brought my 22 months old boy to this office today for his 10:00 AM appointment, and it was one of the most frustrating dental experiences I've had. We arrived on time, but still waited over 30 minutes because the patient before us was running late. When it was finally our turn, we found out that the dentist wasn't even in the office. This was our second visit--we came back because the dentist was wonderful during our first appointment. However, nobody bothered to let us know in advance that the dentist wouldn't be there. Instead, an assistant saw my son. All he did was wipe my son's teeth with gauze. My 2-year-old was scared and started resisting, which is completely normal for a toddler. The assistant simply said, "It's just gauze," as if that would magically make a frightened toddler cooperate. After wiping his teeth, he said, "That's it for today." Excuse me? We waited over 30 minutes just for someone to wipe my son's teeth and send us home? I told them that they should have informed us the dentist wasn't there. The assistant then asked the receptionist to come over. The receptionist's response was, "Kids don't cooperate every time." I said, "I understand that. But the doctor examined him just fine during our last visit. I don't think the assistant knows how to examine a toddler." Only then did they decide to "try again." The assistant took a few photos and that was the end of the visit. I even scheduled another appointment before leaving, but the more I thought about the experience, the more upset I became. I ended up switching my son to a pediatric dentist. When I first called this office, I specifically asked if they could see babies. I was told they were a general dental office but were able to treat young children. If your office isn't experienced in examining toddlers, that's completely fine--but please be honest so parents can find a provider who is. At the very least, have the courtesy to notify patients ahead of time if the dentist won't be there. To make matters worse, after I found a new pediatric dentist, I called to cancel my son's next appointment. The receptionist simply said, "OK," and hung up on me without another word. This office wasted our time, failed to communicate, and handled the entire situation unprofessionally. I would not recommend bringing young children here. read more

I can't say enough about Dr. Thanga! I went in with pain/two cavities and two chipped teeth and he worked his magic so swiftly and with precision and ease, the next thing I knew he was done! Be careful with insurance claims. Get pre approval. Charged me a year later for something on a previous insurance. Very unprofessional. Decided to switch after that. Got an implant at this office that fell off twice and had to have it removed elsewhere. Very painful process so beware. read more

I wasn't sure what to expect under the new ownership but I am delighted to continue going there for my dental needs. He introduced himself to me, answered my questions, and I met his wife who is his receptionist. Despite a few bad reviews as you can see in other reviews, I've had an very good experience with this dentist and recommend them. I had a cracked first molar tooth and was under medi-cal, which meant my dental options were limited. Initially, I went to a western dental to see if they could fix it. They told me they had to extract it and needed an implant plus bone graft. This would of cost at least $4k which was not an option. I looked online on the smilecalifornia.org website and found them listed. I decided to give them a shot. They were able to save the tooth by doing a root canal and getting a crown. Out of pocket cost amounted to around 400 in total for the tooth. the root canal and zirconia crown (mostly covered) via medi-cal. I am very happy with the results of the root canal and crown. this experience has encouraged me to take a much more active role in my dental hygiene. read more

I've been with Dr Thanga since he took over Dr Kim's practice several years ago. HI'm and his staff have always been very kind, friendly and professional. Lately, I've been having anxiety issue due to a medical condition that I have. Not going into details, Dr Thanga and his assistant (Mark) did the things I suggested to calm me down during my teeth cleaning and all went well with out problem. Dr. Lal Thanga and staff gave me my smile back! I was treated with fast braces for minor cosmetic fixes and jaw pain caused from a molar teeth pulling done by a different dentist that miss aligned my jaw. After a few months of treatment I was able to grip on the right side of my mouth again. It was such a relief! Beyond that they have been incredibly accommodating with my changing schedule, provided replacement bands when I break them, and have been supportive to talk to once a month at every visit. 10x thankful for the result and long term recommendations to prevent future issues. I don't write reviews but I have to on my visit to see Dr Thanga. I had a throbbing tooth ache Saturday and was in great distress thinking I would have to suffer the rest of the weekend in pain. I looked up yelp reviews and most of the dentists closed at 2pm. Dr. Thanga closed at 3pm so I called a little after noon and was told to come in at 1pm. I made a dash to the dental office and the X-ray indicated I had an infected nerve and needed a root canal. Dreading the thought I had to be referred to someone else, Dr Thanga said he does it and took care of me. The whole staff was nice and helpful and after over 2 hours and prescription in hand left the office totally satisfied. Thank you Dr Thanga! You saved my weekend. read more

Decided to try a new dentist for a check-up/cleaning. Staff was friendly and the registered dental assistant was informative. However, that was the first time I've ever had a cleaning that hurt and made my gums bleed that much. Yes, my teeth are sensitive and my gums have minimal bleeding on occasion.. but having to grip onto my chair due to discomfort was just unexpected. I wish the dentist would have given more of an explanation about what he was doing, especially since he said my gum lines were good. Also, he looked at my teeth and looked at the x-rays and said my teeth were fine. I also have had no complaints with my teeth since I was in high school. However, he took the liberty to fix my fillings because "they were getting low". He didn't even ask me if I wanted anything fixed, which I thought was shady. He just mentioned something, which I couldn't really hear because the dental equipment was on. All of a sudden, I'm charged for four fillings even though I've had nothing wrong with my teeth. He may have done a decent job but seems like he was just trying to make money by doing unnecessary procedures. read more

Dr. Thanga completely changed how I feel about dentistry. Before going to him, I avoided going out of fear of the cost and how much work I felt I needed, but he gave me something I didn't think I could have - hope. His office manager, Maria, helped me get set up and she is both very kind and extremely knowledgeable about identifying dental needs and navigating insurance, and the office is very flexible regarding financing. Unlike other dentists, you won't have to sit in the waiting room at all (or, at the most, for 5 minutes), and the time they schedule for you is just for you and no one else. The office is also both clean and professional but also cozy! They communicate with you every step of the way, and, if you're sensitive to pain (like I am!), they are great at making you feel comfortable before, during, and after the operation so that it all is a wonderful experience. They are clear on everything and welcome tons of questions! Most importantly, they model and give steps on how to take care of your teeth to gain the most out of life!
