Decided to return to Lal Quilla after approx. two years gap - big mistake! It's a shame about this - lovely restaurant with attentive staff but.....the food was just not up to it. For starters, we ordered onion bahji and poppadums. The only good thing about this were the chutneys which accompanied the poppadums! The onion bahgis were rubbery - as if they'd been cooked earlier and then warmed up! As for the poppadums - they were just not freshly cooked. They actually bent when I tried to snap a piece of one! We then said if they can't cook a poppadum properly, what's the main course going to be like? Our fears were confirmed!! We both ordered chicken tikka jalfrazi with mushroom pillau rice. The rice was o.k. but the curry......totally overcooked mush! It was spiced alright - great kick to it, but just totally overcooked! We also had ordered a garlic na'an bread and this, too, was burnt underneath and a tad stale! This restaurant needs to get a grip! It used to be a victim of its own success with people queuing in the bar area for a table! Sort your chef out and get back on track, Lal Quilla! You used to be No.1 in my ratings but not anymore! Sorry but there are plenty more indian restaurants locally offering far better meals! read more
