The food was good, but the restaurant was incredibly dark inside. The dishes were presented on metal trays, which I found unappealing. It felt like a cafeteria tray in a mental institution. The restaurant was so dark that I had to use my phone's flashlight to read the menu. Some of the dishes I had ordered were listed under different names on the menu. This could be because the restaurant is from a region of India where the dish is called something else. For example, Dahl makhani was not listed on the menu, but the lentil dish was, and it tasted the same to me. The menu itself was difficult to read due to the low lighting and the confusing layout. It was like a maze, with columns and rows that didn't make sense. I had to carefully navigate through the menu to find what I was looking for. It's a really good restaurant. All the food is spicy (heavy on spice) and well balanced. The staff is fast and attentive. The venue is huge and way bigger than you think. I came from a big city America and thought I knew Indian food. This one blew my mind. The Nalli Nihari Biryani is the best version of biryani I ever eaten. Upon hearing about our trip to England, multiple people told us we had to eat at Dishoom... we were planning on heading to the London location, but our friends in Manchester took us to this location instead and it was fabulous. Rafaella was our server and she was amazing... the building this restaurant took over is absolutely stunning and was formerly a bank. The vibe inside is warm, clean and feels like modern India (although admittedly I have not been to India). The food was so delicious too. My kids hit their limit and didn't stay long... they went back to the house with one of our friends, but those of us that stayed to dine in enjoyed every morsel. My personal favorites included the blackened shrimp, okra fries, chicken tikka, rice, corn and Black Dahl. We feasted! Highly recommend! read more

Long waiting time to get in for sure. We managed to get a 9pm reservation for 8 of us. Had a few of starters for the table: lamb samosa,veggie samosa, chili chicken, naans Lamb samosas were great to have with some sauce. Chili chicken was nicely done as well. Got a bunch of grilled dishes for sharing. Tikka chicken was delicious so we did order another one. Paneer tikka was decent. Lamb curry is not as creamy as we normally like. Paneer curry was our favorite. Daal was good too. Both Garlic Naan and regular Naan were really tasty. Roti was great with the curries. Services were superb. They are super busy but very attentive. I honestly cannot stop talking about how delicious my TWO meals were here. Yes, I came twice in the same trip, lol. This is, hands down, the best Indian food I have ever eaten in my entire life, and I grew up in Southeast Asia. I was here for work, and we ventured here on our very first night -- you'll put your name down with the host, and then wait inline. I was surprised at the wait on a Sunday night, but after hearing all the buzz about Dishoom, we knew it was going to be worth it. In fact, I asked the host to make us a reservation for our very last night, because I had a hunch we would want to return (and I was right). Let me start by highlighting the service. My co-worker is celiac and they really took the time to explain what she could / couldn't eat and what possible cross contamination could occur. 5-stars for that, alone. I'd have to say that the top dishes I ate there, on both nights, was the broccoli salad, the daal, and the biryani. OH OH, and let's not forget the kulfi popsicle desserts. I tried the pistachio and the mango, both were excellent. You also should have their cocktails -- I particularly loved their whisky sour that was a blend of Indian and Japanese whisky (damn, it was so good). The roti was also sheer heaven. In short, you must make your way here, if you're in Manchester. And go twice, so you can get to sample as much of their menu as possible. Even better if you're a large group! Super savory and deep flavor with the makhani sauce, which only serves to elevate the naan that you can't help but dip in. Not the cheapest meal as you'll have to pay for rice separately. [Me] Yes, it's a fact that during 2 weeks in the UK I went to Dishoom more times than I could count. It is also a fact that I went in Manchester as well as Edinburgh and two different locations in London. What can I say. From the ambiance to each location to the consistent food and drink, Dishoom is at the pinnacle of what a restaurant should be. Attention to the smallest details, food that keeps you craving it long after you're gone, and friendly, knowledgeable service staff that embrace the culture of hospitality. A new location only opened since November 2018, Dishoom Manchester is no different. I was treated to a culinary journey - one that I know very well - but it was the decor here and the demeanor of our server, Pedro, that made it a real treat. Built in a former Freemason's Hall, this Dishoom is a testament to the contributions of the Indian culture in Freemasonry and their leaders. Most notably, Sir Manockjee Cursetjee, considered the father of freemasonry in Western India. Commissioned portraits of Indian Masons' Grand Masters adorn the walls. We opted for the favorites. Fried okra for my friend (non-GF) - smells delicious and although I've never had it, she swears by it. I almost always get the lamb boti and the chicken tikka, paired with the rice, however, I opted for the chicken ruby as my friend was not up for the spicy chicken tikka. The lamb was a bit on the crispy side this time, but still tender and delicious. The chicken ruby with the sauce was a treat - and extra sauce went well with the rice also! There is a trio of sauces offered, of which the tamarind/mint (great with lamb) and the date sauce are gluten-free. The other (couldn't tell you what's in it) is not as it has malt vinegar. I enjoyed the Old Fashioned and later the Mojito. Both drinks were good accompaniments to the meal, although I enjoyed the old fashioned more. Our server was exceedingly friendly and a really great source of knowledge about the building, decor, and trivia of the construction. I thought that was a nice treat. All in all, another good outing at Dishoom! This was my first dinner out after the many months of lockdown with my friend and we made a great choice. The food here was divine, and the service was amazing. The waitress was very friendly and explained everything really well on the menu which is massive and has tons of variety. I loved the grilled dishes here, especially the Chicken Tikka and Prawn Masala, and the Salad with beans and kale was really nice. The dishes here are indeed very creative and unique, and not something you would encounter in any other Indian restaurant. The drinks menu and cocktails is pretty extensive as well, I liked the Indian gin cocktail. The atmosphere is a nice balance between fine dining and casual, which was really nice. This is the location in Manchester. It's in the center of the city. A great place for dates, large groups, family. You may have a wait but depends when you go. A fantastic drink list. The vibe and decor definitely receives a 5/5, as does the service and staff. I'm not as impressed with the food compared to how much hype there is with the place. The food is tasty, but there isn't anything that is extraordinary or different about it compared to other Indian restaurants. My family and I visited Dishoom for Breakfast (which ends promptly at 11:45 AM), and we had: --The Vegan Bombay: An Indian take on a full English breakfast. Just add masala to everything. And lots of coriander on the side. Too much. --Vegan Sausage Naan Roll: Vegan Sausage with tomato and chutney wrapped in a naan. Eh. --Bun Maska: Two brioche buns slathered with butter. That's it. --Chocolate Chai: Probably the best thing of the whole menu. Warm, chocolately, and nice. --Masala Chai: Bottomless! But also very sweet. I wish there was an option to be able to control how much sugar you want in it. All day menu (Started at Noon): --Cheesie Toast: Cheese and sliced chillies melted on a brioche rolls. --Pineapple Paneer Tikka: Slices of pineapple and paneer arranged on a platter, coated in a green tikka sauce. A bit dry, but not too bad. --Chole Puri: The masala has quite a bit of garam masala in it as it is quite dark, but it is tasty. Comes with a sheero heavily laden in ghee. --Paneer Roll: Paneer and chutney rolled up in a big roti. The food was good, but not extraordinary, especially for those prices. Been to this Dishoom a couple times - all during its "soft launch" period. Went with group of friends for a late breakfast first time. During the soft launch - (so it was 50% off the food), you could not book a table and it was first come, first served but we did not have to wait long. Went for the bacon naan roll - as my "starter" which tasted really good. I also had a Keema Per Eedu - description of this is: A Parsi power breakfast: spicy chicken keema studded with delicate morsels of chicken liver, topped with two runny-yolked fried eggs and salli crisp-chips. Served with home-made buns. Overall this Keema Per Eedu was just OK if I am honest. The wait for the food was a bit longer than ideal but they were busy and it was a soft launch so you expect some slight teething issues. The 2nd time I went about a couple weeks after, also during soft launch, I went with my parents and went during lunch time - so a different menu. I think we arrived just passed 12pm so breakfast service had just finished. We were told that we would have to wait about 15 minutes before they could take our order, because they were cleaning the kitchen. They gave us some nice poppadoms while we waited though :) When we did order the food, the waiter was helpful with recommendations and also ordering stuff which was not too spicy - my Mum isn't that keen on spicy things. We got a load of dishes and shared. We got the chicken tikka, grilled masala prawns, prawn koliwada, Nijari Biryani plus some greens, naan and rice. The Nijari Biryani is the Manchester special - was very filling. Its basically a biryani with a lamb shank in it - and it has a good amount of meat. What a lovely breakfast menu! My friend and I absolutely enjoyed the meal! The parsi omelette was my favorite dish and the masala chai is to die for! Being far away from home is difficult and Dishoom serves food that's the closest to food cooked in India. Hands down one of the best Indian restaurants in Manchester. We honestly had the best meal we've had in so long, definitely the best curry we have ever eaten. We tried a big selection - the black daal and the chicken ruby were particular favourites! Our server Alberto was amazing - very accommodating and knowledgeable and really helped out having a joke with my boyfriends parents too. Incredible visit! Tried Dishoom at home once, so when wondering where to go on the weekend it was an opportunity to try again and boy am I happy we went there! We got a table super fast despite not booking, and the staff were incredible from the get-go. Once we were sat, our waiter came over and gave us the run-down, as well as making great recommendations. We ended up going for the chilli chicken, gunpowder potatoes, chicken ruby, garlic naan, and basmati rice. It was all incredible! We loved the waiters recommendation of the chilli chicken, and all the food came in a timely manner. The waiter we had (Csaba I believe) was super attentive and lovely to us too, as well as making our dessert super memorable with some of the kulfi on a stick. They served a chicken wrap to a vegetarian in my group who had ordered a paneer wrap. She ate half of it before she realised, and ended up bursting into tears. All they did was say sorry and offer us free stuff we didn't want and knocked a couple of things off the bill. At least they didn't charge for the chicken wrap!!! Just chaotic service. Terrible. My wife is South-Asian and this cooking was like her mothers. Having gone to Bombay ourselves, and having home-cooked meals by my wife's family- this was extremely similar! Checking in on us from time to time to ensure everything was okay, immediately took away completed dishes/glasses.
