The back nine had a ton of elevation changes including a multi-tier fairway on one of the holes of the back nine. The forest makes it difficult to keep the fairways in absolutely pristine condition on a few of the holes and some of the bunkers could use a little love but overall I found the course to be in good condition. I look forward to returning!

Thank you, Trailways, for saving what was turning into a terrible night!…read more We had tried to go to another spot for fish fry, but after waiting 45 minutes for a table, my daughter getting stung by a bee while waiting outside and a freak storm cutting the power, we had to leave, hungry and a bit frustrated with the situation. We ended up finding a table for 10 of us at Trailways, which also happened to be serving all-you-can-eat fish fry that night too. And this fish fry was EXCELLENT. All the fish was fried perfectly, crispy and flaky. Our server was quick to help us and bring out our food. My kids, who are unfortunately very picky, also found food here they liked. Trailways saved our night! We'll hopefully be back on future trips.

There's a lovely patio if the weather is nice. Things that I love about the Bierstube: *Moscow Mules available - properly served in copper mugs. Hell yes! *Great burgers. They're 1/2 lb, and never frozen. Above average fries too. *Cozy atmosphere - lots of warm wood and "lodge" decor. *Super friendly staffers. I've only ever had warm, pleasant service here. *Great fried cheese curds *Old timey slot machine that actually pays out quarters FYI - the Bierstube gets quite popular with boaters and vacationers so it might take a little time to get through a meal if you arrive after big groups. Also - the people watching is great. I saw a group of 8 middle aged peeps order giant Slippery Nipples (Baileys + Butterscotch Schnapps = baaarrrrff) and drink 'em down quite happily. Then a table of old guys played Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines on the jukebox. Good times. Good times.

Occasion: Lunch and some sporting clays…read more If you wake up one day and think to yourself: "where can I go to have lunch, get up close and personal with a live pheasant, and shoot at sporting clays?", this is your place! Most who know me know that I'm a military retiree - I had a lot of opportunities in my career to fire all types of weapons from a 155mm howitzer to every version of the Kalashnikov. What was conspicuously absent from the list of weapon's I've fired was a shotgun of any type. Not anymore... For right around $65 + tip, I was able to use both 20- and 12- gauge shotguns and expend an entire box of each gauge ammo to shoot at some sporting clays. It was nothing short of a concierge experience - our guide started the day by showing us one of their new pheasants before orienting me to the guns I'd be firing and instructing me on how to actually hit one of the sporting clays. He then took me to the "range" and walked me through trying to shoot from the different launch points. He also mentioned that they were one of the only places in the country that can set up a one-mile snipe. Let that sink in, folks...taking a sniper shot from AN ENTIRE MILE away. I put that on my list for next time as it does take more setup so needs to be arranged in advance. I performed respectably but more clay pigeons survived the experience than I would have liked. I learned a lesson - sport shooting is significantly different than military. It was humbling but a ton of fun! And the husband did manage to get a video of me actually hitting one of the confounded things so that made me a happy camper too. Would I return? YES YES YES Would I recommend? YES YES YES Service Dog rating? A++; she was welcomed for lunch and they also accommodated her needs while I was shooting

This review is solely for the grill part of the business. Seven of us (4 adults, 3 kids) arrived at…read more6pm for dinner. We were seated inside as the patio was full--no problem with this. Indoor seating was only half full, if that. We waited for 20 minutes before our orders were taken. We then proceeded to wait two hours before we even received our food, with very little checking in from our waitress. She eventually apologized for the wait after we'd been waiting for an hour and a half after ordering. We asked for some bread rolls for the kids at this time and she seemed happy to bring those (along with a round of free drinks for the adults). When we asked for bread rolls for the kids, we mentioned we'd been there already for 2 hours and needed something for the kids. She pulled out her handheld ordering device and said, actually it looks like you've only been here for an hour and a half. 1) The waitress argued with us on how long we'd been waiting. 2) An hour and a half to wait for food (ended up being 2 hours in the end) is completely unacceptable. 3) We had been there 2 hours because it took them 20 minutes to even take our order. We finally received our food and it was just ok. Absolutely nothing to write home about. They mentioned only being open for three weeks and that being a reason as to why our wait was so long. They must have meant 'for the season' because their Facebook page has been posting since 2021. Another table of 4 behind us had been waiting for an hour and other tables that were seated after us received food before us. Completely unimpressed by this restaurant.

Butternut Hills Golf is an excellent course in northern Wisconsin. Any level of golfer can be…read morechallenged by the course. Some sand, some water and some narrow fairways - but a fair course if you can hit your ball reasonably straight. Greens on some holes are tricky - but all but a couple are in great shape. I like to walk - but it is tough on this course because of the distance between some of the greens to the next tee box. So, unless you have time for a 5 hour round - probably best to take a cart. The green fees are a little pricey - but I normally only play this course on the weekends- so I assume they jack up the prices on the weekends to take advantage of the cabin owners. However, I enjoy the course enough to pay a little extra.
