I have never left a review or have I in 65 years ever stiffed a waitress. It was 75 degrees outside & it was very cold in the restaurant. The overhead fans were on high. We said we were freezing and the bar was empty the fans were left on. We ate with coats on. Then we asked to order appetizers and have a few cocktails. She said " no everything had to be ordered at once or it would confuse the cook." We were the the only people in the place. We ordered soup and chili just to get out quick. The cook came out and said " who the hell orders soup and chili on a hot day." If you want to be treated by rude staff this is a great place. Another group entered and they had to get coats to continue. The waitress had a bad attitude. I wish I would've read the negative reviews. read more

Great place to stop in and feel like your local bar, but also experience the North Woods of Wisconsin. I had wings, and they were good. The beer was cold and the bar staff was friendly and efficient. Will probably make this a regular spot when I'm back in town. read more

I visited the Flambeau Forest Inn while visiting the area in 2017. Had a great experience and I believe I wrote a review there. Our server at that time was fantastic, food was good and drinks well above average. I was in the area again visiting a buddy who is a local. He asked where I wanted to go for dinner Saturday night and I chose the Forest Inn based on the good experience last time. Wow what an incredible mistake. There is an employee there named Tony/Toni, after witnessing her verbally accost other patrons, who left, and then started in on us to the degree it was absolutely surreal, we asked for a manager to which she claimed to be the owner. I'd certainly hope not. Let's put it like this. My wife works for a major aircraft manufacturer, I'm in technology with clients in 12 different states. Between the two of us we travel A LOT for work and A LOT for pleasure. Status on two different airlines and status with two well known hotel programs. I've eaten in hole in the wall places in third world countries and I've eaten in numerous top 10 in the world restaurants. Never, ever in my 54 years on this rock, ever experienced a dining experience like this. Wasn't just rude, but condescending, argued, verbally attacked and laughed about it like throwing out paying customers some how was good for business. As the owner of my company and my wife in a position to issue travel bulletins to hers, both of us have put this restaurant on our respective companies "NO GO" lists. Not that we have a lot of people visiting Northern Wisconsin. However this isn't a place you should try and "might get lucky if the stars align" this is one of those places to stay far away from. Clearly something changed as this place went from 3/4 star reviews a few years ago, but for the last year its been nothing but 1 and 2 stars. There is a good reason for those reviews. The current situation with "Pandemic 2020" has put more restaurants and small businesses, OUT of business than any other factor in a decade. Because of that no business owner should take any customers or their business for granted. Unfortunately this woman running the Flambeau Forest Inn missed the memo. I feel bad for those that depend on her for a job and income, she can only run people off so long before she too will be out of business and based on the last 18 months of reviews, very surprised it hasn't happened already. The restaurant business is a cruel mistress to the very best, it is even worse if you can't perform be it quality of food or quality of service. That said I genuinely feel bad for her, the exchange that took place suggested this wasn't just someone in the wrong role, but rather a mean, spiteful, vindictive person likely in need of some mental health help. read more

We had drinks last night, the bar tender Kelly rocks, and then a fantastic fish fry! I had the pan fried walleye with hash browns and my husband had the perch and hash browns. We both enjoyed it so much. We also had their great salad bar and oh I forgot the yummy breadstick with maple butter. This is our favorite place to go for fish!!! Took a drive to look at some property. Made the mistake of walking into this place. I had no idea what I was walking into and then after our experience seeing these reviews, well I don't think you can appreciate just how bad a "1 star experience" is. Clearly this place is in cahoots with the locals to run off anyone that ain't them. It's like the cheerleaders clique in high school only a lot more missing teeth and bad manners. On a positive note it looks like it should be a pretty cool place. And the food, once we had it, was pretty good despite there being some fear in actually consuming it. The staff is about as friendly as drunk bull that was just tasered in the nuts. They make it pretty clear if you ain't buddies with them they'd prefer you drive on by and don't bother. Not a lot of options to eat in the area and this being the closest watering hole to the property we were looking at means either putting up with this nonsense or finding another plot that suits our purposes. Stopped in a couple nights ago. Wasn't all that busy but no one was in a hurry to wait on us either. Don't bother ordering girly drinks like cosmos, that seem to just make them angry. Interesting place for sure... Great location, amazing building, great snowmobiling & ATV trails. Real bizarre owner/bartender woman that makes this place a bit of a buzz kill. Visited for the first time with a friend has a cabin close by, stopped in while snowmobiling. Handful of locals gossiping and talking poorly about others. Bartender came and told us a few stories about bad customers, it appeared to us that she is the common denominator in all the cases but won't take ownership. This place could really be a nice experience and get a lot more on business by just focusing on taking care of guests verses being lazy and fighting and taking poorly about locals, this is gossip central. Easily the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Bartender, who said she was the owner, is condescending and very rude. Told us she had better things to do than wait for us to decide on drinks. We had just sat down less than a minute before! She walked to the other end of the bar and didn't even try to hide that she was talking about us to other patrons. I was part of the ten people who the supposed "Owner" was extremely rude to. There was no excuse for her treatment of us and as a result a $500+ meal & drinks bill was lost. Her treatment of us brought new meaning to the term rude. I flew in from New York to spend some time with my friends, and her treatment was the low point of the trip. Never again will we go to this place for any kind of service. We should have known something was wrong when a previous group left in disgust. I don't understand the bad ratings here. We drove out from phillips to hike Slough Gundy and stopped in here to see the taxidermy and have lunch. The staff was incredibly hospitable and friendly and the food was out of this world. The reuben was one of the best ive had and Ive eaten at some of the top Deli's back home in California. My son and I have ate here on numerous occasions while riding her ATVs in the Flambeau forest and had great service by the husband-and-wife that own this establishment and great food. Unfortunately I chose this evening to take my girlfriend up there for her first experience and it was horrible. Instead of the owners there were actually two young ladies up front leaning against the bar when we walked in at 4:28pm and they just stared at us and did not greet us or even acknowledge us. I asked them if they were still having their prime rib New Year's Eve special at 4:30pm and one of the girls responded and said not for another 15 minutes and and that was it. She made no offer to have a drink or have an appetizer or have a seat and wait so I politely told her thank you and we walked out. According to their website they were going to have a prime rib special for New Year's Eve beginning at 4:30 and then have entertainment during the evening. We would have loved to have stayed but they acted as if we were bothering them as compared to giving great customer service as the owners typically do and making us feel welcome. Unfortunately this will be my last visit and I will make sure and let everyone know of our experience. read more

This place has awesome food and amazing people. The staff are friendly and curteous. We were their for a weekend and stayed in the hotel rooms. It was so peaceful. The bar/restaurant is steps away from the hotel. The hotel doesnt have any tv's but there is so much to do. they even have a dock in the back of the bar to have a boat. The decor in this place is WOW!! When I say one of a kind its an understatment. You have to see it to beleive it, pictures dont do it justice. Its a MANS MANS place but comfy enough for us girls. read more
