I went to the Summer Stampede in August. It was a fun thing to do on a Saturday night. It started at 7pm-ish. It's an amateur rodeo, so a lot of bronco and bull riders weren't completing their rides, but it was $20 to get in. Also several kid events that were pretty cute. The website said....no outside food or drinks. No one checked anything. It said to get there early to get a grandstand seat. There was plenty of seats, even in the shade. It also said they would have a burger pop-up restaurant. They did not. They had a concussion stand with $5 hot dogs and nachos, $3 waters, $6 lagers and seltzers. It was hot so we had a couple drinks, then did a late night dinner. Oh, parking in the rodeo lot was a nightmare. It was $20 and no one helped cars get out onto the road, so we sat in the lot forever. Rookie mistake. read more

First time at the Lakeside Rodeo. A friend from my weekend job offered me free ticket thanks to her brother working at Ford which is a sponsor. So we put the hats and the boots and enjoyed the horses, the bulls and the ambiance. My friend used to ride horses in her ranch in a Mexico so I was glad to be among aficionados and totally got in the mood. We parked pretty far and walked around 15 minutes to the place. Lots of young people, all very good looking! Maybe I should go often to this type of places and meet a cowboy . The show was great and the presenter was very entertaining. I liked the attendees too, pretty civilized, tons of young people and couples. Very pleasant and nice experience in and out. read more

Been coming here for the last 5 years. The rodeo is a staple here in lakeside. It's our yearly tradition. Great place to be on the weekend.

It's not possible to get to your seat. I had to quit. Very chaotic and no chance to manage it. Just lost 25 dollars.

This was a fun and relatively affordable event for the family. Parking was a bit of a challenge even arriving an hour early but we did manage to find some street parking near the Burger King. Concessions are cash only; there is an ATM on site for a $5 service fee. Coors Banquet and Light were $6 or there was an IPA or Topo Chico option for $7. Hotdogs and nachos were $3. They also had popcorn, ice cream and candy. The lines for concessions get pretty long so prepare to wait. The Navy Leap Frog Parachute Team made a special appearance, which was really cool. Racially profiled multiple times by both staff and attendees. Was a bit nervous as this was our first rodeo and knew Santee has a racist reputation so we did our best to be as passive and polite as possible to stay away from trouble. Was going to buy from a vendor and browsing while she ignored my sister and I the entire time giving us a nasty look. A white mother and daughter came up and the owner immediately asked them if they needed anything and was incredibly kind. Safe to say we did not give her any business. Came with a friend whose family had front row seats and the ones next to them were empty. We were speaking with her family sitting when an older woman started berating us saying these are 400 dollar seats! do you need help finding your seats?! With the dirtiest scowl on her face. I would understand being upset if the people who bought them came and asked us to leave and we wouldn't but they never came and we would've had no trouble moving as soon as they asked. It was the fact she was so nasty to us that left us upset especially considering the fact multiple groups of people (all white) did the same thing and she said nothing or was considerably more kind. We gave her no trouble and were polite and apologized and tried to explain we didn't intend to sit there the entire time and we were just speaking to my friend's family. Santee has and always will be filled with racists. Not everybody is bad and there are very kind people that live there but they call it Clantee for a reason. Disappointing. The actual rodeo was okay. It was entertaining and showed good skills from the riders. Not going to yuck on anyone's yum especially because this is a culturally significant event and it was my first time so I'm not the most educated on how ethical it is. I was definitely jarred at the utilization of baby calfs in the show as it looked uncomfortable and unnatural the way their necks were manipulated. I'm sure the animals get treated well and I know the chance of injury is low but if it's your first time I think it's important to do some research before you go, especially if you are an animal lover. Okay experience but the racism solidified for me that this was a one and done kind of thing. read more

Okay, this is a review for the event and the grounds not of a rodeo. The gem fair was more exciting than expected. It was more fun because of our sons excitement and how he elated the vendors with his knowledge and inquisitive nature! How can you not be amazed with a child's ability and capacity to absorb information!! The grounds are spacious. They could have hosted more should more had arrived. They cram people into the bleachers. I think the A hole behind us spilled beer on me 3 times and never apologized once . He also didn't apologize for tweeking so hard he could not stop talking very loud in German THE ENTIRE time . Also do not get an aisle seat . I thought it would be nice , but I've never been to an event where people go back and forth from their seat in my life . It's awful !!!!! YEE-HAWWWWW! Apparently the LARGEST RODEO in SoCal! Can't beat that! The skill level imo wasn't as good as in Wyoming, where I saw my first rodeo, but still very entertaining to watch!! A must-visit for local San Diegans wanting to satisfy their inner cowgirl/cowboy self! I attended the Sunday rodeo, which started at around 2pm and went till about 4pm. Highlights for me were stick racing (small toddlers "racing" their toy horses on sticks...LMAO "Watch out kids! It's not all just dirt out here!"), bull riding (not gonna lie, I was imagining Scott Eastwood a la Nicolas Sparks' Longest Ride the whole time), and bronc riding. You'll also get a chance to see Clydesdales and a few other classic rodeo events. You won't be disappointed. The food here is pretty well-priced but drinks are a bit overpriced for that it is. $2 for a canned soda, fyi. The root beer float hit the spot for me though! Soft serve & root beer separate so I can portion it out to my liking. Yassss! I think there might be a BBQ vendor on Saturdays, but on Sunday I didn't see anything other than kettle corn, and the concession stand. PS a tickler= Otter Pop. I wish they had ICEEs/slushies! The Lakeside Rodeo is a great event for friends, family, and kids. Every event is exciting to watch, and I would say every seat is a good seat. No need to get the premium seats imo. I wish tailgating was allowed! PRO TIPS: - Ur gonna get dirty/dusty because it's an outdoor event, and there's a lot of dirt in the arena. Horses and cattle are going full speed in there and if there's wind, you'll get dirt on you everywhere. Bring sunglasses and I would not recommend sitting front row for this event for that reason. PS ur shoes get very dusty, so plan ur outfit accordingly. I wore boots and it was perfect. I do not suggest flip flops. - BRING A HAT! It's really sunny out here. Bring a widebrimmed hat, or splurge on a nice one there. Also, don't forget your sunscreen. - Bring cash. You'll need it for parking and it's easier to pay vendors that way too. read more

**This review is on the 2015 Country Fest - and the location of the rodeo grounds, not an actual rodeo show ** This was my first time in the area, and I could not find any information on the area as a concert venue instead of a rodeo. I hope this helps future Countryfest attendees! Parking: -Not as bad as expected, they were organized and had borrowed the high school parking lot near by I got there an hour after the area opened and found tons of parking a short walk away. It cost $10, but felt worth it to not have to stress about it. -Traffic in and out was rough, but steady Venue: -For a sold out show, the crowds weren't that bad Seating was (surprisingly) great, tons of bleachers, and standing room if you preferred that -We ended up sitting for half the show, and then getting down into the arena and dancing for the second half -The equipment was great, so you could hear the concert from anywhere you sat -There was a LOT of dirt and dust. Wear boots if you have them and you won't even notice. -We debated getting the Honkey Tonk Lounge tickets and the Party Box tickets. Party box is in a pretty good spot at the front of the bleachers, but you could get a similar spot by getting there early. Also then you're tied to one location for the night. The HTL was cool since we had three girls, and they had a bathroom with no line! I'd do the HTL again, but not the Party Box. Other (Food/service/etc): -They accepted credit cards -They brought in food trucks, but didn't have as many options as I would have hoped. (Grilled cheese truck, loaded fries truck, taco truck & bbq truck). -They had lots of sodas, lemonade, beer, wine and even a cider option, which was nice. (Beers were around $7 each, and they would only sell you one at a time (no going to get two for your friends). The lines actually weren't that long though! -The vendors selling shirts and hats have packed booths, the were well priced -The concert was in June, but ended up not being too warm since they started at 3pm. My crew got there around 4, and actually we all wished we got there a little later... The main act didn't go on until 8:15 (we couldn't find the line up online before the show - so we found that out when we got there) Overall we had a great time, and will be back in the future! read more

I love the rodeo! Grew up going with my family ever since I was little. We've hosted friends visiting from France one year, another from India...they loved it! Now, I'm in my early 30s and my non-country friends come out every year and we go to Renegade Honky Tonk Bar afterwards. Everyone always has so much fun! The Lakeside Rodeo is on the professional circuit tour, so you have riders from all over the world! One year, navy seals jumped out of planes and parachuted right onto the arena, it was amazing! 3.5 stars for good ol' American family fun. We came here with our two kiddos for the 2pm performance on Sunday. Beware that there is NO shade in any of the seating areas. If it is a sunny day you are going to get a lot of sun. Bring sunscreen and a hat. It is also cash only, so bring some dough unless you want to pay $3.50 to use the ATM. 4 stars for the rodeo performances, they were great. The announcer was very talented and really made the experience special, I wish I would have taken note of his name. The way he and the clowns ran the stick race (little kids on stick horses) was hilarious and endearing. The bronc and bull riding were impressive. 2.5 stars for the shopping and food. There was no food except for the concession stands, and their food was not great. The beer selection was not great either. They really should bring in some private food vendors. There were also very few other vendors for trinkets and such. I think they are really missing the mark in this area and should modernize their whole approach. It would make them more money and also make it more fun for the attendees. 3 stars for the rest of it... We sat in the general reserved seating and had a decent view. The benches are aluminum, some folks may want a seat pad. We roasted in the sun and I wished we had brought hats. Instead, we bought some but of course there was only 1 hat vendor. The bathrooms were decent, much better than outhouses. Overall, we truly had fun, but just a few small changes would have made this a 4.5 star experience. read more

What a horrible, horiffic event! Imagine being sardined in reserved seats that are so tight that u literally can't move. If u move u touch the persons shoulder on either side of u (and I'm thin). Its the same in front and behind u. The drunk girl next to me kept putting her beer in my face and her boyfriend, who was fondling her ass was unfortunately, simultaneously fondling mine. To make matters worse your surrounded by drunk rednecks everywhere. There is no fair food. Only food very similar to what u would get at a high school football game... Nachos, old twizzlers, candybars, hot dogs. Restrooms were very dirty and most of the locks didn't work so i held my purse in one hand, held the door shut with the other and performed a further balancing act to not make contact with the toilet seat. To make matters EVEN WORSE... grown men think its somehow manly to clothes-line baby calves and throw them to the ground. The commentary during the events was cheesy and the skits between events were equally as corny. I was really excited to go and really wanted to like it but i sooo wished I would have stayed home. My time is precious to me and this was a colossal waste of it. But if you're a drunk or a redneck you'll totally enjoy! By the way... I ended up rooting for the baby calves. read more

Was here a few weeks ago attending my very first rodeo, and I'm a forever fan! The 2018 Lakeside Rodeo (7pm) show was action packed from the beginning to the end. One thing I noticed was how well prepared and organized the event was as compared to similar outdoor events I've attended. A KUSI newscaster was the event commentator who was not only entertaining and informative, but is also himself, an equestrian and actively took part IN the rodeo presentation on a horse of his own. The show incorporated children from the community who delighted in their roles in the "stick horse race" which delightfully surprised me and the rest of the audience. The food vendors ran like a well oiled machine, efficiently serving a set amount of menu items suited for a rodeo theme. All in all, only good thoughts on this first time rodeo of mine! read more

If you can get over pretending like east county sucks, I highly recommend the Lakeside Rodeo. If you ever feel like you totally suck, go to the rodeo and you'll see a stadium full of people who suck way more than you. Or maybe they're fucking cooler because they LOVE THE SHIT OUT OF SOMETHING SO WHITE TRASH IT'S INSANE. Hot dogs. Bud or Bud Light. Kettle Corn. Now anyone who knows me, I'm punk rock on the outside and country on the inside so I feel like home on the range at the annual lakeside rodeo... I bypass the mega crowds on Friday and Saturday nights and just buy the cheap tickets for family Sunday show at 2pm. I mean 25 bucks for a show for three people ten bucks for adult and 5 bucks for kids. P.S. Buy your tickets online or at the ticket booth a few days before or plan on waiting in a long ass line. Just bring water and sunscreen, it's a little warm, also maybe a hat... I also like how this rodeo is pro animal safety and the announcer makes that known as well, so there won't be any PETA protesters... This year was the worst rodeo I've been to. Nothing was really "wow" and there was THREE bull riders. They used to have two sessions, than they went down to one at the end but I've never seen only THREE bull riders. I've gone for 26 years and never been to one as boring as last nights rodeo. Oh my God! And I can write that, because this is a review about a rodeo, and people who attend rodeos on the regular care about worthwhile to-do-ances like God, Country, and 'MURICA!!! I will tell you what: I cannot remember the last time I felt more patriotic and more proud to enjoy an event among my countrymen than at this rodeo. Maybe for the first pitch of the first Mets home game following 9/11. This place is great! Cheap food, easy parking, reasonable tickets, professional bull riding (which is pretty cool and scary to boot if you've never seen it live), and I don't know where these women come from, but frikking my lord bejesus on a Marlboro box they alone are worth the price! And it's such a family friendly, hometown atmosphere. People are polite. They laugh. They tip caps. They hold doors. They ask how you're doing. I will come here any time. Small arena which made it easy and good seating for viewing. However, the daytime show is HOT as there is no shade and they make you dump your water prior to entry. Parking is easier than I thought it would be and was $3.00. The rodeo had a good number of events and was a real PRCA one - plenty of bull riding, bareback riding, roping and team roping and the women of course have barrel racing which always impresses me. I would reccomend buying tickets in advance because the wait for tickets at the gate took a good 25 minutes. read more

Been going here since I was a kid, I believe every year except the one where the the bull won. Poor guy, anyways. Prices are fair, comes once a year, as a multi event, Bear back riding, Team caff roping caff roping Bull Riding Barrel Racing etc etc Seating on certain days is assigned, I recommend Saturday or Sunday going, its a little crowded on Fridays, Park down the street, so you can get the hell out of their stress free :) note for rodeo association GET HEBREW NATIONAL HOT DOGS, aka costco dogs, so much better! read more

Last night's rodeo was a joke (4/27/19). 2 bull riders, that's the event most people go to see. Supposedly, the contestants were stuck in traffic. REALLY? I contacted the rodeo and they said they had no control over the contestants, didn't even get an apology. read more

I thought it was fun, I would probably not go again, but I would recommend going once and checking it out. It was crowded but they had seats available, they don't gouge you to bad at the concession stand for example a bottle of water is $2 I have seen other places like this charge double. The announcers are entertaining and the bulls come right over by you, they are firckin HUGE!!! The sponsors are kinda silly and what you might expect at the rodeo, your typical local Harley dealership, a car dealer, residential trash pickup, not really anything to see so stick to the arena. read more

This is a good as it gets in San Diego! It proves there is still country left in a county that is losing it's back country way too fast. It's a great time to put yer boots on and cut loose! The action is fast and exciting. You won't find any sissies here. Bull ridin' is the toughest sport on dirt! Bull ridin', bareback broncs, saddle broncs, barrel racing and of course those hunky bull doggers! That's steer wrestlin' to you city folk. City slicker girls don't wear your strappy sandals or fancy pants. It's boots, hats and jeans. I guess those little curly hats are ok. It's as country as you'll ever get!!! And of course, the proceeds from this rodeo go back into the Lakeside youth. When programs get severely under-funded, the El Capitan Stadium Association gives away tons of money back into the kids programs. So it's not just frivolous fun...it's good for the community! Lots of fun! A few tips: parking is a mess- park several blocks away and walk, and then don't worry about the pedestrians in the streets after it's over. I got there 30 minutes early, it was not nearly early enough- we just barely got to our seats in time, and they started late. I would suggest at least an hour in advance unless you already physically have the tickets. Otherwise, pretty fun. Events are listed on the website and seem to be the same for every time slot. Tickets were sold out when I got there, so buy in advance. My only complaint is that all the events were for adults- I really enjoy watching kids ride sheep and cows(I think?, think kid version of bull riding) read more

Went to this venue to see the Dirty Parts Festival from FM 94/9 and it was a great place. Parking filled up fast- but there was lots of free street parking. Easy to find, and easy to get back on the freeway and head home after. Lots of room for GA standing where the stages were set up along with lots of stadium bench seating. Would go see a venue here again for sure! read more

My Lakeside Rodeo experience was great. I am a Team Roper from Indiana and am in San Diego on business. I was really pleased to hear on the Radio about a rodeo in town while I was here. The crowd was amazing and was able to catch up with a couple of my Rodeo buddies that were competing in the team roping event. Great job Lakeside for memories I will never forget. read more
