I'm rebuilding an old Shovelhead, trying to do everything I can myself. Some things are more cost effective to have someone else do, and I'm not in a position to start my own machine shop.
On a friends recommendation, I called up John at lakeside, and knew I found the right place. Even before I spent a single cent, John spent a 1/2 hr. On the phone going over my options. After a few trips, and more conversations, I ended up with a total top and bottom rebuild. There may have been a few extras I was talked into for period correct parts, and the old "doing it right the first time". But many parts (oil pump, ignition,cams etc.) were gone over and deemed in good condition to keep costs down.
After the parts were done, John spent about an hour walking me through his preferred assembly method for a 1980 Harley motor that looked better than when it rolled out of the AMF owned factory.
I'm not sure about the 2 negative reviews, I saw, but my experience has been amazing. Prices are fair regarding custom machine work, and you can't put a price on the experience the guys in this shop have. read more
