I stopped in looking for bag spacers, not exactly the sale of the year, but the owner knew exactly what I was looking for and found a pair right away. Over 18 months, Rami has done a major service, replaced heated grips that needed special attention, and removed stuck Allen bolts on my 2018 Triumph Tiger 800. I recently spoke with a Harley shop owner about vintage bike shops and as soon as I said "a place in Brighton," J.'s former location, he adamantly snapped out, "SHE'S A THIEF!," and I could leave this review at that. But I'm not going to. J. comes off as a cool person, until you realize she's incredibly dishonest. I had MULTIPLE issues with her shop, some I didn't even bother getting into with her about. My experience at Madhouse goes back a few years but it's obvious from reading other reviews that her integrity level is still lacking. After a rift with my mechanic of 15 years, I ended up at Madhouse with my vintage bike. One of the first things J. said to me was that she had the exact same bike. It was comforting knowing she knew the bike. After telling her that a previous shop (a Harley shop) had ripped me off greatly she told me not to worry bc it wouldn't happen there. Another sigh of relief. I was going in for surgery in a matter of days, so finding a mechanic, let alone another woman, made me feel I was in the right place. But I wasn't. J. knows how to win people over but she's incredibly dishonest. She actually switched out parts on my bike for I assume her own bike. Cutting to the chase, my carbs needed work. They had been cleaned at another shop (I know bc I took them to that other shop in a box after someone else had cleaned them) but the bike still ran like crap. That was it. I wasn't in a rush because I wouldn't be riding for awhile after surgery but I would stop by the shop, often after she had gone for the day, just to check on my bike. I had brought my old, original pipes in to have changed back seeing I thought it might have added to the poor running problem. They were long with a rigid weld. There was a handful of small holes on the bottom where the two pipes met off the exhaust manifolds. I knew my pipes well seeing I had the bike for a good 20 years at that point. I used to see my pipes upright, resting against a wall not far from my bike in her shop. J said that she was teaching a welding class soon so I hoped my pipes could be fixed, and, when I walked in one night, I found they had been. They were resting up against the wall where they had always been, except now without any holes. Hmm. One day I got a call from J. saying my pipes couldn't be fixed so I came in to the shop to see what she was talking about. When I got there she had a set of incredibly rusted, seeming aftermarkets on the table. They weren't my pipes. Outside of a few holes, my pipes were in good condition. One of her mechanics (great guys at the time btw) even said that these pipes must have been sitting under a water leak for years bc they were so badly rusted, but she kept insisting they were mine. She even said that she could help me 'buy' a set of used pipes for my bike but I kept arguing that those weren't my pipes. She then kicked me out of her shop. Had I not been having surgical problems, I would have pursued complaints and small claims against her but I had to let it go. What I figure is that she was going to try to sell me back my own, now repaired, pipes. I picked up my bike and took it for a sticker the next day only to find that what was a new front tire now had dry rot and needed to be replaced. I used to walk into her shop and instantly know where my bike was by the shiny black front tire. The tire that was now on my bike was not new. At times when I would visit my bike I would find parts altered. Once a mirror bracket was different and there were other things that I don't recall right now but the bracket was changed back. I came in one day and my recently cleaned carbs were off the bike. When I had to return to my old mechanic he said that the carbs on my bike were 'disgustingly dirty' and apparently not the same sparkling clean carbs that were on my bike when I brought it in to J.'s. This was supposed to be a simple carb job but she told one of her mechanics that it was "a custom job". It was not. On top of the $500 or so that she charged me, the bike ran worse than when I brought in it, dangerously bad actually. I also had to replace my front tire and never got my original pipes back. And one of the (I'm sure) many things that I had forgotten was when I came in to check on my bike one day. That day, she pulled my bike outside and kept red-lining my engine until something inside snapped. My heart sank, her mechanic gave an 'oh shit' kind of sigh and she smirked. Many people have great results at Madhouse and some of the bikes are incredible, I'll give her that. Maybe she just didn't like me, maybe she thought I was just a wanna be biker but whatever the case, beware. read more

Are you in the greater Boston area? Do you have a motorcycle that you dont want to just ride into oblivion? The immediately take you bike in to Madhouse Motors. Literally every member of the team here is friendly, informative, approachable about bikes, and extremely professional. Special shout-out to Nick in particular for answering my 1001 questions about winter maintenance for my bike (this is my first winter in Mass, pray for me). There's nothing better than a shop that takes the time to walk you through things and never gives the hard sell to try and upcharge you for extra part or labour you don't need. Honestly the sheer number of new and vintage bikes makes coming around the shop a pretty damn fun experience. I can't imagine a better place to bring a bike you care about to ensure that it'll last the next 20 years, cruising like a dream. I can't wait for their rad looking cafe to open in novermber so I can snag an espresso while I wait for the work to be done on my bike 10/10 shop. read more

Madhouse Motors - Beautiful bikes on the shop floor - Motorcycle Repair Near Me - Boston, Massachusetts

Great group of guys and gals.. I recently moved here from New York. Madhouse welcomed me with open arms..

Impeccable vibes, service, experience. I took my bike in to get it looked at for an oil change and a safety check. They promptly and professionally addressed several age-related issues on my bike, saving me a ton of headaches down the road. Prices and labor rates were extremely reasonable. Team was communicative during the repair, explaining developments in the service as they emerged. Every member of the team is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly- asking about a part, or service, has always resulted in an in-depth explanation (with demonstrations!) of what the item is, does, and what can go wrong with it. When I brought up a last-minute issue with my bike at pickup expecting, at best, advice, the team quickly and efficiently took care of that issue for me. Exceeded expectations in every way. Highly recommend. read more

Incredibly incompetent and less than honest. I brought multiple bikes there because there is no other shop available for older bikes in Boston. Without exception, I had to bring the bikes back to the shop immediately for rework. One bike came back with a loose triple T and a bent rim. Another bike seized after a few miles. Yet another I had brought them for an engine rebuild that took months was leaking oil on the exhaust system when I picked it up. Labor prices are steep considering the quality of the work. Mark is a nice guy but the owner does not have the best business attitude. NEVER AGAIN. read more

I was referred from someone. I stopped in one day (winter) and talked to them about what my bike needed. The next week I brought it in. He went through the whole thing for me (considering I do now know much about repair). He was up front with what it needed. It also made sense as to what I told him the bike was doing. They were up front on the pricing. Sent me an estimate. When the bike was ready, it took me a few weeks to get the cash for him, he was very patient and we worked out a payment plan. The day I went to go pick it up, someone else went over what they did to the bike, and let me know that if something doesn't feel right to let them know. I will definitely be going back, and recommend them to anyone who needs work done. They are also cool people, understanding, and take the time to explain things to you. read more

A+ People and some of the best knowledge in the business. Can't say enough good things about this crew and their operations.

This is a beautiful cafe with great vibes. I love meeting people here, and folks are always awesome by the motorcycles you can see in the shop. I spent $1800 there and my bike is still leaking gas. When I picked up the bike I got 2 miles and had to have it towed back to the shop. They replaced the Chock pit. And it's still leaking gas. If you have an alternative I suggest you use it. Great, they, your employee pick up the bike replaced the Cock pit to no avail. And if you will pardon me, at that point why would I come back again.? First things first.. I was looking for a mechanic I could establish a long term relationship with, one I could trust. You all know this could be an oxymoron regarding a mechanic of any kind, BUT, I was so THOROUGHLY impressed, and pleased with the entire experience.. Start/Finish....beyond!! 1. I ride a Kawasaki Mean Streak 1600 & 2. Needed more than just a seasonal 3. brakes, system flush, inspection ready. They came picked up the bike and under promised and over delivered. Got my bike ready sooner than they expected, washed her down and got me back on with a big ole koolaid smile. Price? Did I mention koolaid smile? This isn't a franchise mechanic that gives you a claim ticket and the number for the service dept.. This is where you go if you want a relationship with a competent courteous and capable professional mechanic..!! Feel free to msg me if you have a question about my review. I was actually contemplating how good a review to give because obviously I don't want them too busy for me next time I call... But Karma restored my reasoning.. read more

Madhouse Motors - This is the girl MadHouse made Purr and made me smile - Motorcycle Repair Near Me - Boston, Massachusetts

Five stars all around for the shop class at Madhouse Motors on forks and suspension work. Rami was an excellent teacher, bringing enthusiasm and a deep knowledge base. I have a 1974 Moto Guzzi Eldorado and until I found Madhouse, nobody would touch it for maintenance or repair. I have had a ton of "old bike" problems and I want to highlight how incredible the team at Madhouse has been. Each time they prioritized my bike, diagnosed even the really tough problems and come to me with solutions all at reasonable prices. Madhouse is a gem and I feel lucky to have them close by. If you have an old bike with old bike problems - the team at Madhouse will figure it out! read more

This is not a bike shop. This is family. The whole staff are kind - helped me through my first customization project with zero attitude, lots of good advice, and at reasonable cost. J. is the coolest lady I've ever met and by all rights could have boatloads of attitude - hell knows she's earned it - but nope. She's just rad AF. In other news: laid my bike down at the side of the road (long story) and mashed up my right side controls. Out of nowhere, a car pulls over to the side of the road and a voice says, "Are you ok? Do you need help?" and out of the darkness Brendan appears, like a freaking knight in a diesel Mercedes. This guy. Not only stopped to make sure I was ok but RAN HOME TO GET HIS TOOLS and fixed my bike on the side of the road. That, my friends? That's Madhouse. xo read more

Great shop with a responsive and skilled team. My '84 Interceptor had not been getting the TLC that it needs in recent years, so I finally took it to the pros. They received the tow-in, assessed the bikes condition, diagnosed problems accurately, and gave me a few different options...and best of all, they stuck to their estimate! The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is instead of 5 is that they gave the bike back with a minor leak as the result of a screw that froze and sheared off. When I contacted them about it, they were totally cool. Told me to bring the bike back, and Brendan drilled and re-threaded the screw in under an hour, at no additional charge. I try to do all my own work but life gets busy, and I'm thrilled to have a local shop I can trust. read more

WARNING! So much went wrong. False estimate, many week passed, failed repair resulting in having to pay for towing after riding bike just 20 miles. They wanted hundreds more to continue work. Going to Medhouse was a$800 mistake. Go anywhere else! read more

These guys know their stuff and the best part of it all is their family approach to it all. From the beginning, they helped me as if I were part of the family. If you are not satisfied with their work, they will right their wrong and go out of their way to make you happy. This is as good as it gets for motorcycle repair and maintenance. Honest, inexpensive, AND they will happily teach you about how to fix your bike. I learned more about my 1985 honda rebel in 30 minutes with J than I knew in the past two years. From small tune ups to full restoration this is the one stop shop. I highly recommend Madhouse Motors. read more

Seriously I consider myself the luckiest girl in the world for finding J. Not going to a different motorcycle shop ever again. My battery was giving me trouble- motorcycle wasn't starting. J stayed on top of things, made sure to pick up the exact battery I needed for replacement, coordinated a good time for me to come in, and gave my Ninja her full love and attention (yes, she takes care of sports bikes as well :) ) What amazing service and very reasonably priced. Loved this place. read more

I'm so glad to have found the folks at Madhouse Motors. Not only do they know what they are doing - they are extraordinarily kind and genuine people who care way more about the craft of motorcycle maintenance than making a quick buck. I came in with my Honda Rebel and not much in the way of motorcycle know-how. Telling them I hoped to learn, J very sweetly walked me through the basics of maintenance, from chain care to checking the oil. Sayer very nicely explained to me some basics of engine mechanics. Guy went out of his way to look for a tire pressure gauge. The whole time, I felt zero percent intimidated and 100% welcomed into a conversation where knowledge was shared and a common love for our machine-animals was abundantly present in everybody. Prices are extremely fair. The folks are honest. I can't think of a better place to learn about motorcycle maintenance. read more

I am grateful for many things today and that includes the folks over at Madhouse Motors. Thank you to everyone there! My triumph bonneville t100 failed to start late in the day after a Doctors appt so I had to leave the bike in the parking lot overnight in Somerville. I work 12hr shifts at a hospital and was working 7a-7p the next day so organizing a shop to pick up my bike could have been a stressful ordeal. However J and Madhouse worked with me and my schedule and were genuinely awesome about the whole thing. They picked up my bike from the parking lot, charged my battery, and taught me that driving the bike like I was - around the city but never for more than 30min - was the likely reason for my battery being drained. Fantastic service and very fair prices, I have found my new shop. read more

Bought a 71 Honda CB 350. I did a lot of repairs myself as I prefer to, but the Madhouse crew got my baby on the road for me with what I couldn't handle. J, Mike, and Sayer are the most polite and pleasant people in the world. Probably the nicest people I have met in Boston in the last 10 years. I was contemplating buying a vintage bike for while, however, I didn't know much about mechanics. By chance, I had run into J randomly in the street and found out she helped worked and raced motorcycles with her father her entire life. They mostly rebuild and customize a ton of Honda CB's but, didn't hesitate to help me work on my 1976 Yamaha 650 XS. Always fair on price and highly knowledgable about all vintage custom Cafe Racers. If you're looking to learn how to work on bikes, or need help troubleshooting, or looking for a quick repair, Madhouse Motors are the dudes. Trust me on this! FYI, they also tow bikes as well. Triple A doesnt! read more

Two not one because, from the limited information that I was able to gather, the owner seems like a fantastic artist / mechanic and someone who genuinely cares about people and her work. Why two and not more is because the operation is terribly run. My advice: hire a non-billing operator who understands the basics of running a business. My experience started with a search for someone who could do a project on my motorcycle (search ongoing if someone can make a suggestion). It was largely cosmetic and requires someone who has a design aesthetic, not just a body shop. The reviews of madhouse looked unanimously positive, so I reached out. History of communication: - Sat 4/28: call no answer. Filled out webform and sent an email directly to the address listed on the website with a quick summary and my contact info. Asked if I could stop by that day - Tue 5/1: got an email response: "Is there a good time for you to come in and chat with us in person?" I responded with my phone number and suggested times. Never got a response to that email. - Week of May 14 I called again. Got the owner on the phone. She suggested I fill out the web form to make an appointment. I told her I had and emailed directly with no response. We agreed to meet 5/24 at 9am. - Thu 5/24: I show up. Was told she wasn't going to be back for hours. Out on tows. I said I had an appointment. I was told to call her. Called and she suggested I come back another time. I asked if there was someone that could take some information today as my schedule is challenging. Spoke to a mechanic who didn't seem particularly interested and made a comment about billing the time. The fabricator who I spoke to was very nice. She suggested that we email back and forth about the project as a starting point. I left my contact information with the mechanic. 48 hours later....no response. If your time is valuable, you like clear communication, and care about when things get done, I suggest you avoid this shop. If you care only about the quality of the finished product, and can tolerate a poorly run business operation, this might still be a good shop for you. read more

This place is the best. I left my '79 CB650 with them a year or two ago on the recommendation of a friend and basically left it at "anything you see that needs fixing up, go for it." They went totally up and down the bike and replaced, repaired, or adjusted anything that needed it. They were totally fair with me price-wise and even de-greased the bike for me! Recently I took it in because the horn stopped working. Within 5 minutes J poked at it and had it fixed up, taking me as soon as I arrived. She refused to take any money from me for the quick fix! Friendly, fair place with knowledgeable people who love bikes. Definitely worth your consideration when you need some work done. read more

I was inclined to make a posting on yelp because the team at Madhouse motors has consistently met and exceeded my 1973 honda cb350 need's a number of times and provided me with absolutely incredible service. From fixing a tale light, to replacing a blown gasket, to picking me up when I was broke down on the side of the road; the service is unheard of. They're bike people and love what they do - which means they are thorough and turnaround times are great. Service is better, faster, and cheaper than anywhere else i've ever been. If they don't have the parts, they will track down you vintage parts at swap meets to make sure you get the best deal. They are honest, friendly and know their shit. I won't go anywhere else. read more

Madhouse Motors is a great hidden gem of a motorcycle repair shop. The owner was able to schedule me the same day for an oil change and at my request, walked me thru the entire process so I can do it myself next time around. The place is no frills, literally in the backyard of a house. They also don't carry any parts so I had to bring my own filter and oil. But that's ok, because the owner's friendliness and willingness to help and share her knowledge makes up for the lack of a fancy parts and supply store.
