We had a large party there and it was such a nice location. Unfortunately because there were 14 of us they made us order a head of time, which I understand stand but still was a little annoying. I never ever usually give 5 stars ever but after my wonderful dinner at Lakeside last night its really my only choice. We were invited there by our friend Dorothy and her husband Gord. She is a local Realtor whom we done business with for years. My brother and his wife arrived first and was a bit early and the owner greeted them warmly and as he knew there were 3more of us coming without even being asked he asked a gentleman to move over one seat and brought over a couple of others stools so by the time I arrived I had a great seat at the bar waiting for me. Now for the Bar Tender....once again she was exceedingly warm and friendly and was delighted to tell us about the house drinks. I decided to ask it they had Margueritas as they weren't on the drink menu. She then carefully went over the different types of Tequila I could choose from which included Patron my personal favourite. She then created the best Margarita Ive ever had. My brother and his wife had Gin and Tonics created with the same care and flair as were the Virgin Ceasars ordered by our friends. We then were moved to our table and were warmly welcomed by our charming Kiwi waitress who had a wonderful sense of humour and provided terrific attentive service throughout our meal. Now for the food...I chose the Mulligatawny soup which was delicious and the Prime Rib which came with roast potatoes perfect Yorkshire pudding and a medley of beautifully cooked fresh vegetables which even included parsnips which as a transplanted Brit I thought was a creative touch... even the red wine gravy was spot on. My sister in law had The Blackened Mahi Mahi out friends both had the chicken supreme and my brother the seafood casserole. Each of these dishes was prepared with great care were creatively garnished and had generous portions... none of those tiny haute cuisine portions here.... We left stuffed but not before sampling their creme brulet which was also perfect. While outside after dinner I encountered the kitchen staff and they were equally friendly and interesting and we shared our passion for great food. Both my brother and I share a passion for great food and are no strangers to the kitchen. When guests come to our family cottage they are always delighted with our fare but once in awhile its nice to get away and let someone else do the work. Often Im disappointed when my dinner arrives has skimpy portions and I sit there thinking I could have made it better myself... theres none of that here! At the end of the day it comes down from the top as wise owners appreciate their staff and while setting high standards ensure that each staff member is treated fairly and with respect. It was apparent that each of the staff we met were happy to work there in this warm collegial environment. The final touch was that as I couldn't eat all my main course I asked our server if I could take it to go. Rather than simply drop a takeout container on the table she took it in the back packaged it up and returned it as we were leaving... we were sent off with the same warmth as when we were greeted and left feeling we had made some new friends... we can't wait to go back!....Crisco read more

First time coming here. It looks recently renovated. Not sure if it's under new management but it looks and feels very new. They are under construction for what looks like a beautiful outdoor patio. We were looking for a sit down place for breakfast in Bala (there aren't many) and stumbled across them. So glad we did. The food was very good. Very fresh, well presented. We had three finicky teens with us and all three enjoyed the place. Service was awesome too. Such nice staff. Looks like they have a lunch menu, didn't see a dinner menu. No liquor license yet, should have that soon. Little things, like the ketchup is in little squeeze packets and creamers instead of real cream take away from what it could be. I look forward to trying this place again. They have some soft spots right now as part of their "re-launch" or whatever the transition is from however they know what those issues are and are looking to fix them as they get fully operational. The food is truly exquisite. Anyone who has had Chef Cate's food knows to expect nothing less. We had the Caesar salad and seafood chowder to start. My husband had the special of the day which was beef tenderloin with a mushroom sauce. I had the seafood linguine. Both were absolutely perfect. Sticky pudding for dessert... indescribable. Lakeside Bala is a real treat in the Muskoka neighbourhood. It fits the bill of being a true restaurant (not a pub) is its a focus on a dining experience. The owners have been relentless in developing an atmosphere that my parents would love for a quiet dinner and so would I to take friends or family to enjoy a good meal with wine. From the outside it is a little misleading. It looks a little like a box. As soon as you walk in, you are in an immaculate and intimate dining setting that "resets" you immediately. Proper table settings, nice cutlery, a full but careful menu of selections prepared by the chef. A modest wine selection, a great staff - and an earnest effort to provide a professional and attentive experience without losing a little of the "cottage" vibe. Prices are reasonable - noting that the candles, the kitchen, the table cloths, the aesthetic are all investments made by the owner that cost something. Portions are reasonable with a slight lean to the generous and the vegetables cooked with care that sometimes is overlooked by cooks who focus only on the central product. If you haven't stopped in, I recommend it. You can come by boat, drive or just walk around Bala after and enjoy a wonderful civilized reasonably priced night out at this restaurant on the water. read more

Came here for dinner and was not impressed by the prices or the food options, the food is really overpriced and not worth it at all. We took one look at the menu and decided this was not the place for us, we just ordered an app and left. The only thing that was good about this place was the beautiful lake view. read more

Not going back here despite being desperate to dine out due to Covid restrictions. Mussels were half cooked, we had to send them back, after that the stomach was upside down being served raw mussels. The French fries were mushy half cooked also. The perch sandwich was mostly bread. Back to my own kitchen read more

All these years going to the cottage we've never gone in to town for fine dining... so glad we did! Great night to wrap up Summer with dinner outside by the water. We'll be back again for sure. read more

Thanks to Rob R.! After reading his review we had the courage to go there and guess what: it was great! I had frattini, my wife had an omlette. Both was very good, tasty. Cottage cheese on the side was delicious, too. The service was also good, the only thing missing was, sunshades on the patiotables:) Definitely a "must-go" for breakfast read more

This place is a nice little tucked away bistro. The chef makes some wonderful dishes and the service is great. I had the salmon and my family ordered the burgers. It was cooked perfectly and the salmon was on point. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a wonderful meal and to anyone wanting an affordable meal for a special occasion. read more

We enjoyed a lovely lakeside (obviously) breakfast in the scenic town of Bala. The BLT with basil aioli was outstanding, and the omelette was well prepared. Friendly, efficient wait staff.
