    Stuffed chicken with provolone.

We've been to Deerhurst the last two years and we LOVE Eclipse Restaurant. This was actually the first time we had dinner there and we were very pleased. I had the stuffed chicken, which was delicious. My wife and I were lucky enough to have a beautiful view of the golf course with all the fall foliage. I highly recommend dinner here AND their breakfast is also top notch. You're welcome

Found in the Deerhurst Resort, this restaurant has gorgeous water views. Grab a table by the window if available. Even in off-season it is lovely here. With a large dance competition going on, many hotels get overwhelmed and backed up. Not so with Eclipse. They offered 25% discounts to all on food to keep people onsite and so it would be busy. They were extremely well prepared with a full buffet of fresh hot and cold food. Our served asked me if I wanted a made to order omelette with the buffet which she brought quickly with coffee to the table. Delicious. The pancake with maple syrup was tasty too. So at this point I would probably rate it a four, but then my server did the kindest thing possible. She asked me if I wanted more coffee in a takeaway cup. Best. It is going to be a hectic day and there is no coffee shop in the hotel main building. Regular price breakfast buffet hot and cold: Adults $21 Kids $10 Fair prices and even better with 25% off. Of course we tipped generously pre-discount.

Good food. Service is not. Overall service is pretty unprofessional. There are a couple of servers that are good.

I went to Deerhurst for a company conference recently, it was my second time visiting, but I'll…read morecount it as my first time since I was able to experience much more of what it had to offer this time around. Driving up there with the fall colours - spectacular. It's really in a beautiful spot, so it had that going for it. It didn't have....much else? I mean granted - I was NOT going there for golf, and it's more of a golf resort. There is not a lot to do once you're there and it's off-season. We did the escape rooms (2 out of the 4) and they were FANTASTIC! Well put together, good props and the rooms were fun. They weren't too hard to figure out but a fun challenge. Aside from these rooms and some ax throwing...that's it for 'fun'. The restaurants were fine - breakfast brunch was a good mix, dinner was tasty...I had steak on one of the nights and it was delicious and made with care. Nothing stood out about the food, it tasted good and there was a decent variety to choose from. The rooms were very run of the mill, kinda outdated and what you might expect at an older resort in northern Ontario. Nothing to rave about. Was this the place I'd choose for a company retreat? Probably not - but only because you're stuck in 1 spot eating at the same places every day...but if you're only here for a day or 2, it would be ok.

No thanks to…read morethe unseasonably warm weather, there was rain from Mon - Wed which kept us from our original plan to hit the slopes for the week. Thankfully, Deerhurst had enough indoor activities (pool, game room, climbing wall, escape rooms, nightly activities including a very good magic show...etc) to keep us busy until the weather finally cleared enough to go skiing at the nearby Hidden Valley Resort on Thurday and Friday. Our room was well appointed (stayed in Summit Lodge) but there were a few things that did not work very well (fridge didn't get cold enough and water pressure in the shower was weak.). It was also inconvenient to schlep all our gear up and down the stairs without an elevator but that's on us. Note to self for the next visit. We ate at the Maple bar (tavern?) on our first night (nachos, wings and a pizza) and the beers (Muskoka brewery) were flat and the food was ho hum. Next morning's breakfast buffet at the Compass fared a bit better with good selection of entrees but weak coffee. Freshly squeezed OJ was a big hit with our girl. Last night's dinner at the Compass was probably the best meal at the resort but rather pricey for what you get (2 drinks, charcuterie board, octopus salad and chicken fingers for $100+). There was a magic show we attended with incredibly kind magician, Don Gudel and the infamous Cookie the Rabbit, which my daughter loved! The magician was patient and genial. He took the time to give ALL the kids who did not get a chance to volunteer during the show a chance to experience his magic first hand by staying a whole hour later to entertain his little guests. We got a chance to stroll around the resort grounds and from what we could see, it would make for a very lovely visit during the summer months as well. Maybe that's what we'll plan for our next visit to Deerhurst. All in all, we enjoyed our stay here and would consider returning.

Of course, you can see that even during dinner, not all the counter space is filled, so definitely they've scaled down from their glory days, but not many casinos nearish the GTA are doing buffets now & among the 3 I've tried this is the best (especially if you go when it's BOGO). Depending on the day, there's roast beef, roast turkey, shrimp & perch - even for lunch. Most dishes were decent, though the Southern Fried Chicken was a bit dry & lacking umami punch & the Brussels Sprouts were overcooked. There's make your own poutine and nachos. The medium rare roast beef was good or really good (get it freshly sliced). Fried perch & canneloni were excellent too. Dinner is $10 more but the one time I went for it we only got the addition of a few mediocre Chinese dishes & pre-peeled cooked shrimp (woo hoo!) Indeed there was one less soup & one less soft serve flavour compared to the two times I'd visited for lunch. The desserts are above average, with up to 4 types of soft serve! Vegan vanilla was really good: richer, creamier & more flavourful even than other places' dairy versions. Apple sorbet was excellent too, with a great apple taste.

They…read moreoffer an all-you-can-eat buffet of many different cuisines, including Asian, Mediterranean, Italian, and more. There's something here for everyone. Although we had reservations, there was still a long line to get in, and a separate line for walk-ins. Surprisingly, as busy as they are, they close at 9:00pm most nights, and 10:00pm on Fridays. Other restaurants on site are open later. Regardless of how many choices are available, I just can't seem to resist starting with soup and a salad bar. Is that healthy or not? My choices here were simple - Hot and Sour Soup with a Wonton thrown in, and Caesar salad with a few extra items on the plate. The sushi looked trampled and picked-through so that was a pass. Too bad. The soup and salad were decent. Not much you could do to mess that up. Choosing my main courses was more challenging, with so many choices. I eat Asian food all the time at really good restaurants in the GTA so I chose not to go that route. I ended up with freshly carved prime rib (medium rare), smoked brisket, fried chicken, gnocchi, mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, and corn on the cob. These were all very good choices! The prime rib was tender and juicy, even without jus or gravy. The brisket was equally tender and moist with a nice smoky flavour. The chicken was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. Very good. The sides were all tasty as well. It was hard to resist going back for more but I was already feeling stuffed. My dining companions were raving about the bread pudding so I figured I had to squeeze in a piece, topped with soft-serve ice cream. It was quite good. The service was friendly and efficient. It has to be to turn over all those tables for the people waiting to get in. I was stuffed and done. Roll me out now. The regular price for dinner is only $22.00, making it a pretty good bargain.
