With the traditional restaurant, we decided to stick with a conventional meal starting with a Caesar salad ($13) that's very garlicky - enjoyable for me but could be a lot for others. Topped with fluffy croutons, tender crumbled bacon bits, and Parmesan cheese slivers, it's a simple and classic take on the starter. The prime rib ($44) was surprisingly large for 8oz covered in a well-seasoned crust that was fairly salty, so much so that I wish the restaurant left their gravy (not au jus as the menu describes) on the side. At least there was plenty of horseradish to counteract the saltiness. The buttery mashed potatoes seem to have chunks of the spuds added into the mash giving the side a nice contrast. On the other hand, the asparagus became mush as it's served under the meat, and the Yorkshire pudding was airy but dry. I guess you can't win them all. The Old Station House doesn't take reservations, but fair-weather months offers additional seating along their wrap around porch along with their rustic dining room. Still, I'd recommend visiting early (or much later) to avoid disappointment, especially if you're in the mood for prime rib that's subject to availability. read more

We went to the Old Station on a beautiful weekend in October. We sat on the patio (party of 2). I had the cauliflower wings with a salad and my companion had the fish and chips. The food came out quickly, was delicious and fresh and a good sized portion. Our server was very pleasant and attentive and looked after us very well. Sat on the patio in October as their inside dining room was full - it was a pretty mild day but there was a chill in the wind. The staff was attentive and offered suggestions. Very disappointed in this restaurant. Had dinner this evening with a friend. The Cesar was delicious! Ordered the spinach dip for an appetizer. There were so many chips and bread with a small drop of spinach. The server actually apologized and said that it didn't look right. I then ordered the mussels, which I was told came from the east coast. They were so salty, which had to have been from the broth that I could only eat a few and had to throw the rest away. Have to say I wasn't overly impressed with The Old Station, unfortunately. We went based on great reviews and left underwhelmed. The pricing was a bit high for the quality of the food, the fried fish was extremely dry and the broccoli soup was nearly inedible. The French onion soup and Caesar salad were good and the poutine was just meh. Our server was wonderful but the near empty restaurant at dinner should have been our first tip that we shouldn't expect to be wowed. One of the best places to eat in Bracebridge I think. When I did a search there wasn't a lot for selection. Burgers seem to be popular but I wanted to try the special miso glazed salmon and flat iron steak. Sweet potato appetizer. The good: sweet potatoes fries are super good. One of my fave restaurants around Muskoka. Their menu looks pretty standard but the food wows. Their fish is perfectly cooked and tender and tasty even though I'm not a big fish person I loved it. Their burger is huge and well seasoned and comes with a good sized soup or salad. Their gravy is too tasty to not order! Loved it better than ketchup. Make sure you get fries for one of your sides because they're delish! Their prime rib sandwich is so tender and tasty too. I wish I had more stomaches because there's so many other items we wanted to try. Hope to visit again soon! read more

Slapped in the middle of downtown on Manitoba road, this place is inviting with its shaded and sunny patio as well as its rustic indoors cabin feel. The menu has all the comfort food you can possibly be craving but I went for a chicken club sandwich and my boyfriend, a poutine burger. I expected to have sliced deli style chicken but it was an actual chicken breast on a true multigrain bun. The sauce of my meal is enough to have me go back if I am in the area again but I am also eager to try other items on the menu! I came here for lunch while I was in town for a funeral. The Old Station is located on the main strip in Bracebridge and was easy to find. There's free parking behind the government building just a few steps away. I have to preface this review by saying that I think the ratings on this place are waaaaay beyond what they should be, especially if you spend any time eating in Toronto. This is a solid 3-star establishment but the reviews on google would have you believe its a 4.5 or 5 star restaurant. Perhaps in Bracebridge it is, but overall, as someone who enjoys dining out, it was a 3. I came with my parents, we were seated right away and asked for a table a little further away from other patrons and the hostess did her best given how small the place is. It took a bit for our waitress to come by but she was very friendly when she did. My dad wanted a draft beer and they only had three beers on tap - scratch that, two beers on tap. The one he ordered was out and so he had to have something else. A bit disappointing, I would have expected them to have more beers on tap or more selection. I got the chicken and waffles for lunch and they were very good. They had a chipotle maple syrup which was tasty and then the chicken with white bbq sauce on top. I would have liked to have been given actual syrup too so that I could add more. Fried chicken and waffles requires LOTS of syrup for me and I wanted more. The chicken was nicely done and the whole plate was a good size, not too much and not too little. My primary complaint is about the temperature of the restaurant itself. We arrived and it was a cool day and we sat down, took our coats off and realized that we were still chilled because the restaurant was cold. There's two doors you walk through to get into the restaurant; the outer door tends to get left open by patrons who disregard the very clear 'please close the door' sign and then a cold draft wafts in pretty fast. The second door isn't really much of a door as it is a screen door or something so it lets lots of cold in. My dad had to get up twice to shut the door - the staff didn't seem to care about shutting it. I watched the hostess look up at the door and then go back to what she was doing as if it would close itself. All in, our meal was pretty good. I'd suggest avoiding this stop if its cold outside, the cold drafts really impacted my enjoyment of my lunch. But the food was good, everyone enjoyed their meals and we'd be back if we're in Bracebridge again. Note that this place is small; it probably couldn't seat more than 20-30 at one time, so if you're going with a group, call ahead. read more

Tried the old station tonight with myself, my wife and our four kids. The food was delicious and high quality and everyone enjoyed their meal. Everything tasted fresh and prepared with care. The waitress was nice, though slow at times and she left me waiting a long time before bringing out my bill even after I requested it. My only other complaint is the portions for the adults were small. I ordered the chicken dinner and it was fantastic but left me wanting a little more. My wife who is petite in size felt the same way after she ordered the special which was some kind of pasta. For $20 larger portions would be appreciated.
