If you want to overpay for a lukewarm, subpar breakfast, and get a lesson in the trades, this place is for you.

The classic pizza ($22.50) seemed like the ideal choice, essentially a pepperoni pie. While it wasn't terrible, it also wasn't good - the crust too hard and the tomato sauce tasted canned. It's certainly not the thin blistery Napoli pies their menu describes. If anything, it's something you'd find at Boston Pizza. At least it was covered with a decent amount of mozzarella to make it nice and gooey. Their lunch special, a Korean fried chicken sandwich ($20) was a popular choice. If they just charged a couple dollars more to use a thicker slice of chicken it'd be delicious. Unfortunately, the thin cutlet was too dry and the sweet sauce overwhelming. Even the coleslaw couldn't counteract the sugariness of the glaze. If anything, the potato wedges were the best part of the dish - an abundant portion of the hot and crispy spuds.

I don't think I have been able to go to a restaurant, fill myself and my partner, each of us have an alcoholic beverage, enjoy a dessert together, and leave a 30% tip (because of those prices if you're not increasing the percentage, the wonderful wait staff really get let down) all for under $60. Will I be back? I will. Honestly, if you were just going for lunch, it's hard to make a feeling lunch at home for the same price as you can get it there.

The place provides the option of indoor dining, patio seating (weather permitting) and is pet friendly. (Some places unfortunately don't allow pets even with a patio so always good to call ahead to check first). The server was nice and attentive and offered my friends dog some water without us asking. The only downside when it came to service was the wait time. When we got a seat it was only us and one other table but we still had to wait quite some time for our food. The food itself was quite yummy. I had a strawberry pecan salad with grilled chicken while my friend had their burger with a side of gravy. The ingredients in the strawberry salad was fresh, the nuts were nicely candied and the chicken was juicy. It was refreshing to eat on a hot day and I felt quite satisfied after. In terms of the burger and the ingredients that went into making it, it was simple but once again, the ingredients were fresh and that's what makes a great burger. The gravy was that came on the side with the burger was additional $1.50 but in my option it was well worth it and went amazing with the fries. I would definitely come back if I was in the area again but if I was in a rush I would just order take out. I had my initial hesitations thinking it might be some basic pub food. Who knew this restaurant out in Gravenhurst is better than many Toronto restaurants in the city. One of my fav meals in a while. The Oar recently undergone a new concept change to Lamorna. While they still kept the Oar as their name given the familiarity and reputation of the previous restaurant concept, the menu and indoor decor has completely changed with a new chef in the last couple months. The menu is farm to table and it rotates weekly, and I can really taste the difference, which explains the more premium but reasonable price. Note a burger will always be on the menu and we really like their dry age burger, rich and the accompanying (what looks like hand/in-house cut) fries are so delicious, I wouldn't mind ordering more on the side. We also dined at their outdoor patio so our pups could dine with us. They so kindly brought over a water bowl for the dogs too! Towards the end of the meal, chef Ben came out personally to greet us and we can feel the passion and care he puts into his food. We asked about how he came to this restaurant and his inspo for his food and he told us it's from his travels. eg. why the schnitzel is thicker because he enjoys the thick katsu he had from Japan. He told us he recently sold two of his restaurants and decided to head up this restaurant after his travels. The chef actually goes around and sources ingredients directly from the farms and locally. We also appreciated the fresh pasta and thick cut schnitzel. We also absolutely love the eggplant and the croquettes too. Actually everything we had was a highlight and that's rare for me to find all the dishes impressive at a restaurant. Highly recommend order their bread service so you can use the bread to clean up the sauces from the remaining plates, as it's not included by default. I also love the charm of the plates and cutlery. They open a box of different knives you can pick a knife to use all vintage/second-hand and gave the feel that it's from grandma's home. Highly recommend this spot! My main course was a homemade cappelletti pasta with fresh peas sautéed in a delicate sauce.. My companion ate from the menu with the Arctic Char which was slightly on the dry side, likely finished off in the oven, but fine by Gastro Pub standards. The wine selection was uninspiring and low range but relative to the overall dining environment so I went with a pleasant locally brewed beer and my companion an indifferent Ontario Chardonnay. Service was excellent, attentive and friendly. Outside dining was available but likely for more casual diners. Dining inside, for me being the preferred option, but on this occasion did tend to be on the the noisy side but that was down to the patrons. Nothing pretentious here, no doubt credit to the chef and staff . Definitely worth a visit and reservations although likely not 100% essential daytime are recommended for evenings . Our waitress was quite pleasant and saw to our order in timely fashion, adding to the homely charm. Food-wise we selected the three-course prix fix menu with both of us getting the wedge caesar salad, one Pan-Seared pickerel and one Tall Trees BBQ Trio of jerk chicken, short rib and baby back ribs. There was absolutely no complaints about any of the food, which was prepared and cooked to just the right level of tenderness and flavor. The only surprise which slightly caused our opinion to wobble was dessert: we ordered the creme brulée and with it came a cake pop, which is a little pastry treat with icing on top. Though the pastry was a nice bonus, it felt a little off to include with a classic Canadian dessert and didn't pair with it. Still, as a sucker for dessert, I'm not saying no to a two-for-one. I started with a Pineapple Juice Mimosa, which I absolutely loved. My wife's latte was probably the one average part of the meal, but thankfully, everything else was fantastic. I ordered the Meat Lovers Hash, and it was so good! Hearty, flavourful, and exactly what I want from a brunch hash. My wife ordered the Smoked Salmon Benny, and she absolutely loved it.
