Went here on a Saturday late morning and was expecting long lines or for them to be all sold out but there was no lines and plenty to choose from. We tried a variety of their donuts and they were all delicious. My favourite was the coconut key lime, but the chocolate coconut and apple fritter were delicious too. Donuts run out mid afternoon so make sure you get there early on weekends. Donuts are super soft and fresh and huge!! 5 stars for donuts. Butter tarts were under baked with a doughy crust Tried a few other baked goods and they were just soso. Would come back for the donuts for sure! read more

I give it a "meh" for a few reasons: 1. The butter tarts are very inconsistent - I ordered 6 plain, and got one with raisins anyway; half were runny messes (a proper tart should be on the verge, but not peeing on your shirt!); one had 2 crusts (= no quality control in the baking or in the counter worker being selective). 2. Expensive, which to me means it must be a bit of a tourist trap ($4.95 for a meat pie?! Holy crap!). I don't even want to know what the tarts cost, but 4 meat pies, one loaf of bread, 2 Apple fritters and the tarts was $40 - yike! 3. On my first visit the door was wide open and the place was full of flies. Ick. There are so many places to get such epic tarts outside of Toronto - this need not be one of them. The tarts are a "2", but the donuts and Chelsea loaves hold some promise for breakfasts for those heading to the cottage. read more

This is my hands down favourite bakery. They always make everything fresh daily and sell day old products at half price. There is usually a line out the door but it moves very quickly and it gives you a chance to look at all of the baked goods. My favourites are the carrot cake, macaroon bars and date squares but you can't go wrong with any of the options. This bakery never fails to please and I somehow always find myself taking a detour to stop by and pick up some treats. If you haven't already, I highly recommend stopping buy and trying one of their delicious squares or sticky buns for yourself. read more

We've been coming here for years. Not once disappointed in their fresh baked goods. Kind of sad they got rid of the equipment to make ice cream cakes. Those cakes were awesome. That was a few years ago so we are past that now. Like a lot of the reviews indicate, get there early during peak months to avoid lines that literally go out the door. The Bakery gave me my first taste of the ever popular Canadian Butter Tart. Butter Tarts are unique to Canada and consist of a flaky pastry shell that is filled with a saccharine blend of butter, brown sugar and eggs. It's similar to the base used in a Pecan Pie without the nut topping. Being a "pie person", I couldn't wait to try the much talked about baked mini pie treat. My first try with Butter Tarts wasn't exactly a positive one due to the center being unbelievably runny and overly sweet. I think the reason for the runny center is due to the use of corn syrup which in my opinion is too messy and not as delicious as a firm set center. After a bit of talk with my guy who grew up in Toronto I learned that not all Butter Tarts are made equal some can have a soft center, a short crust or contain additional ingredients such as raisins, butterscotch or coconut. Being the purist that I am I loved it in its untainted tart form. I find the best tarts to have a soft filling with a crisp and crumbly shell. While my first experience wasn't the worst it wasn't my favorite either. But if you are looking for a Butter Tart with a gooey center then The Bakery is the place for you. I was also urged to try the Nanaimo bar also know as "Canada's Favourite Confection" made up of a chocolate no-bake square it consists of a wafer crumb-based layer, topped by a layer of vanilla or custard flavored butter icing, which is covered in chocolate made from melted chocolate squares. I know it's possible that my next statement could lead to my being banned from ever setting foot on Canadian soil again but I am not a fan of the Nanaimo's sweetness or the butter icing it literally gave me a sugar rush headache. The one item I absolutely fell in love with was the Seven Sisters dessert bread which is something like a massive cinnamon roll with various nuts, maple syrup and raisins baked into it. I can't say enough about how delicious it was warmed paired with a cup of coffee. This is a must, must try. read more

it's a good sign when the majority people walking out of here are holding more than one full bag of goodies. butter tarts are usually too decadent for me but i went for the PECAN TART when i noticed my friends order half a dozen without blinking. super oozy, the filling is like liquid cocaine but it's got rich depth of maply flavour that was delicious. i also followed the leader and ordered a couple of beef MEAT PIES, one of which i had warmed up to eat on the side of the road (we're classy like that). also great flavour and the crust was super flaky but not greasy, and held up against the filling superbly. deciding between the WHIPPED CREAM DONUT or the lemon curd filling, i was told the whipped cream one was a bigger seller. the size of the thing was massivo and i was happy to see a non-custard filling but alas the whipped cream was a bit too heavy and rich for my liking. i sampled the lemon curd and it was nicely tart. considering my lunch was half a meat pie and a whole donut, i was a pretty happy camper. like the calories, prices are a little steep though so perhaps it's best that it's all the way in gravenhurst. read more

Good quality and variety of baked goods but exorbitant prices. Over $13 for half a dozen butter tarts. Not worth it.

This bakery is amazing, customer service is great despite them being overwhelmed by me and my man bursting through the doors each time, arguing about what gluten-free (and non) goods to get....probably due to the excitement of not eating delicious baked goods all week and trying to rush and get in by 5pm. Having been celiac for most of my life I was rather thrilled about the gluten-free meat pies. Now that I've finished them off I'm ever-so impressed. I have been going here since I was a kid up from the states. It's always the first and last place we go during our troops because it's that good to want to start and end a trip on! My favorite are the soft sandwich rolls, the butter tarts, and the berry pies. A gravenhurst staple!! read more

We have just had their chicken pot pies for the second time. Three pieces of chicken 1/2 inch in size does not qualify this to be called a chicken pie. It was dry and basically tasted on pastry only. I would suggest they stop selling the chicken pies until they have corrected and tasted themselves for quality. The last two we bought had one piece of chicken 1/2 inch in size but at least wasn't dry. read more

I unfortunately had a terrible experience this past Thanksgiving weekend, and from the owner herself, the woman jumped ahead to move the line along, and when I placed my order the person in front of me decided that he wanted what I requested, I was then told that he was here first. I quietly asked her why she took my order if she was not going to fill it in the first place, only to have her raise her voice to me, and belittle, I only purchased her apple fritters for a person at the cottage, otherwise I would have never given her my money. After trying the apple fritters I wish still I had not given her my money as they were terrible and should have gone to Tim's. read more
