Always helpful and educated, Lakeshore Bike is expertise. Always a nice selection of bikes and accessories for sale and to rent. The owner, G, has been working with bikes since 1994 - he knows his stuff. The shop is open year round, unless snowing or raining. Conveniently located beside the famous Chicago Lakefront Trail beside tennis courts near Irving Park Rd. Also, convenient paid meter parking directly beside the shop.

Lakeshore Bikes is my go-to spot for bike rentals in Chicago! I've happily rented road bikes from them for the past three years for the Chicago triathlon. I think one of my favorite things about this shop is when you rent a bike you don't need to bring your own pedals (if you have spds at home). Helmets are also included in the rental. If you're thinking of booking a bike for the triathlon I'd recommend booking at least 2-3 months in advance since they tend to run out of the most popular road bike sizes pretty early on (which makes sense since the triathlon brings in about 10,000 athletes into the city!)

Price of bikes was not correct and no hybrid bikes as listed. On the website it shows 10$ and wanted to charge 12$. No electric hybrid.

Very good experience overall. The brakes were really loud and could've been fixed better but there were no issues on the ride.

I took my bike here today, and Geraldo did a great tune-up. He was kind enough to not charge me because there was not much to do on my bike!

Perfect location. Down to business and knowledgeable team. Would definitely rent again or get my bike repaired here.

Quick and relatively inexpensive tune up. Not open all hours/weather as they state. Not sure what they're hours are.

Always reliable and fair pricing. Convenient location on Broadway. I mean if you get a flat on LSD…read moreit's relatively easy to walk over to Broadway since it runs parallel and throw your bike on a bus. For my single speed and racing bikes always on time with good service and fair pricing. Nice selection and if you don't see it they have no problem ordering direct. Quality small local business. Check them out, Spring is coming.

In response to the (mostly) positive reviews to this place, I trusted them to provide quality…read moreservice. My rating is due to bike service issues, not personnel. The workers were what you'd expect as far as being nice - but the mechanics are amateur at best. After my first disappointment with their routine "maintenance service", I wanted to give them another shot with my brakes. After all, I yearn to have a good relationship with a local bike shop. And sadly, it's a bigger disappointment than my first visit. I asked for them to bleed both brakes. I received a call saying they're "fine" and suggested NOT bleeding brakes; but the pads and rotors were caked in oil and other residue (I cleaned them both 3 days ago). But I figured you gotta trust the pros, right? Wrong. I figured they'd replace the pads, clean the rotors and call it a day. After all, I hadn't sanded the pads this past time and they are getting old (10 months). Nope, just VERY poorly sanded the existing brake pads, cleaned the rotor below my normal standard and was charged nearly $50. For that. To sand 4 little brake pads and (presumably) apply some rubbing alcohol to the rotors. $50. Look at the picture of the brake pads after they serviced them. Lmao. I could have done that for $2 at home since all I need is a little more rough sand paper. Ha. And no, it didn't help my brakes at all. They produced very little friction, we're extremely loud and there was even a clicking noise from my drivetrain on my ride home I haven't even diagnosed yet. I just had to write this review. Ha. Should have just told them to screw off and bleed the damn brakes. To me, it's simple. This is a classic big city bike shop that is money hungry. $50 for that is LAUGHABLE. I could take this to my hometown bike shop and for that money they'd do a bleed, drivetrain clean, fork pressurization, frame clean, etc. And after all that, I still need my brakes bled. They didn't do it. Ha. EDIT: Attached is the video of my new wheel sound! I think it's just the dork disk, but still.
