First time hiring movers and they set the bar very very high!! I am not a huge fan of strangers coming into my house so I've never used movers. I have to say I got lucky with 3 such great movers: Lenny, Steven, and Joey. They are so nice and genuinely down to earth guys. I had my 4 year old son with me and they were so patient with him. Typical 4 year old in their way and trying to have conversations with them and they actually stopped, had full on conversations with him, played with him and his toys, and they even gave me advice on potty training a toddler boy. Who even does that?! They were so personable it made my moving day a lot less stressful. They loaded the truck within 2 hours from my old house, stopped by my sister's house to pick up furniture, and unloaded at the new house within 3 hours. Don't trust these guys. 1st: The were rough on everything. Repeatedly I had to ask them to be careful with things. 2nd: When they said they were done packing out the house, I walked through and found they had left pictures and the wall, a closet full of things, etc. 3rd: When it was time to settle up after unloading on the other end, suddenly there was an additional $2,000 in additional charges. I stood my ground despite threats of putting a lean on our house for the unpaid amount. He was clearly trying to bully me. Final: The real kicker. We had to put everything into storage for a few months while remodeling was finished. As we unpacked, there were several things missing, all electronics. Of course, they knew nothing about anything damaged or missing since we did not notifiy them immediately after the move. Read through other reviews. I am not the only one that had things disappear in their moves. Our friends had a good experience, but their move was much smaller than ours. They also were able to stay with the movers throughout the entire move. I am guessing that reduced the potential for theft. read more

I apologize for the length of this, but I've waited a year to make sure it is factually accurate and nothing is exaggerated. I finally decided to get it posted. Let me say, if I had to do it over again, I would never use this company The owner over-promised and under-delivered, in every possible way. All was fine, up until the day before, with the office rep confirming three times the date/time for packing up and the date/time for the move. The first day arrives, 9am, 9:30, 10am and no one shows up. I call the company; where are you? The rep says, oh, sorry, I made a mistake, we can't pack you up today, we have to do it tomorrow. No apology or anything and when I ask the owner to give me a discount, he refuses, saying he is already giving me a good deal. That is b.s as his price is the same as or higher than all the other companies that gave me bids. I chose him because he sounded good and my realtor recommended him. So, at the last minute I had to scramble, because we are moving out, other people are moving into our house, based on our dates. The new owner agreed to push things out one more day and all seemed okay..Fortunately, the new owners didn't charge us for getting out one day later. Packing day arrives, four guys (including one who is the crew lead). They get started and begin packing. I clarify with one of them who is working in my office that a pile of things there are to be left for the new owners. They are not to be packed. He says okay. Packing went fine. Next day arrives and three of the same guys show up, but one new person is the lead. He has to be brought up to speed. Loading begins and as the house is emptying, I walk upstairs to vacuum and verify things are empty. All good upstairs. Then I start to look around the rest of the house to make sure everything is packed. One of the guys comes and gets me and says we don't have time for you to check; everything is loaded up and we have to go now. Rush, rush, start the drive to Brentwood, and I am unable to check closets, cabinets, shelves and outdoors of the main floor. Unloading all goes smoothly and we begin unpacking. I gave each of the guys a $20 to thank them, but I did think the young one who worked in my office was sloppy and disorganized. It turns out as we were unpacking, ALL the things in my office that were to be left for the new owners, were packed up and we had to find a way to get them back to the new owners. Not happy about that. A few things were broken: a big crystal bowl, two large plastic storage containers that had damaged handles, and a decorative glass item from Amsterdam that was simply at the bottom of a box, not packed in paper or bubble wrap, broken in two. When I called to make a claim, the owner says okay, my guys will call you. One of the head guys calls and says "we packed everything properly; nothing could have broken". Of course I show them pictures of what was broken, what the item from Amsterdam looked like in the bottom of the box before we unpacked it, and he told me that they would have to pay me for the broken items. That is not right so I call the office rep who reiterates that their insurance policy, for which I had to pay $200, was simply to make the moving guys pay for everything that was broken.Not fair to me or the guys who did the packing and moving. Although they may have packed incorrectly in those cases where things were broken, they don't make much money and it is wrong to make them cover the costs. So, I asked for my $200 to be sent back to me and I said I wouldn't make a claim at all. That is not how an insurance policy works Why do I have to pay for a policy if the guys were supposed to make me whole anyway? In past years when I've moved, I purchased an insurance policy and if things were broken, the insurance company pays for the damage. This is beyond ridiculous and very unfair to the guys, IMHO. Then as we continue to unpack, we keep getting texts and photos from the new owners: the bathroom medicine closet wasn't packed, the dining room cabinet had three big drawers that had not been emptied, there were things outside that hadn't been packed, stuff in the garage that had been left -on and on. I was annoyed and had to call the company and I told them I tried to check things but the guys were in a hurry. The owner said they were not in a hurry, they just worked quickly. Honestly, by now I was really tired of his b.s. Finally, one of the sweet moving guys from the company, on his own time and in his own truck, came to pick me up and we went to Pleasanton and he brought back all the things that had been left. There were a few big boxes of stuff. When again I approached the owner about compensation, he adamantly refused. I would never use this company again. They were dishonest, one of the packers was sloppy and careless and the owner untrustworthy.Three of the moving/packing guys were great though and it's too bad they work for such an unethical and dishonest owner. read more

I have used Lake movers many times over the years. Daryl has always been prompt when arriving to give estimates. We have also received fair rates and good customer care. My shout out is to the real MVP's at Lake Movers- the guys that shlepped our belongings in crazy heat First leg- Elk Grove to storage in Brentwood. - Steve , Lenny, Jordan. They went above and beyond when the estimated amount of worldly belongings was a weeee bit low and they had to come back a few days later for the rest. Not to mention the janga they made out of the storage to get everything to fit! 10/10 would recommend. 2nd leg- 3 months later with in Brentwood - we get the same 3 amigos- Steve, Lenny, Jordan. Worked there butts off in 100+ degree temps and never complained. Joked a bit with us, always kind, hard working and respectful. 10/10 still would recommend 3rd leg - roughly 1 month later- moving the storage within Brentwood. We got Steve, whom I called Joe for TWO moves until I heard the one of the guys call him STEVE!, I asked him why he let me call him Joe for two moves?? We all laughed and joked about it for the rest of the day. We also had Jordan and new kid Eric for the move. All worked super hard again in 100+ degree heat. 10/10 still recommend I'm sure someone has a hernia or a hemorrhoid after shleping all our crap!! Everyone seemed to work well as a team. You could tell Steve and Lenny had a good work repore and leadership for the newer movers. Made the move run smooth! On July 16,2024 Lake Movers were hired to move me from Antioch, California to Brentwood, California. The movers from Lake Movers came to my home and moved the boxes, furniture and appliances to my home in Brentwood, California. For months I unpacked to items, and during this time I discovered that several items missing. I contacted the company and never was able to get any assistance in locating my items. Today, 1/20/25, I was searching for some items that a friend need, and again I could not find the items. But I had not needed the items, so I had not done my due diligences and to make sure that the items arrived. If I could give 10 stars I would! This company was amazing we use them for a local move they were on time, professional and had great work epic. We got a quote and it was right on. We actually use them twice in one day one scheduled move and one emergency last minute move that they were able to get a truck and two movers to move the people out of the house we purchased. In addition to moving our entire 2-story home, they also made a stop at a storage facility to pick up more of our stuff before heading to our new Brentwood home. First, they did not have enough room to haul all that was required in one trip. Midway we Gave 4 of them a $20. Tip BUT after a long lunch they arrived n immediately broke a 2ft diameter vase w a 20 year old tree and hid the damage, they never suggested to pay or replace it. Total Loss. Next, they drop a freezer off the ramp n destroyed it. Glad no one got hurt. To save the food we had to strap the door while the owner scrabbled for a new cheaper n smaller replacement freezer. Had to find room for left over food. They only had 4 guys at first so we had to help unload, after 8 hours they finally got two more workers n the owner never helped Physically. We are Still trying to find missing furniture hardware. Afterwards we Had to hook up the appliances correctly. We actually paid these jokers $2.3k for the most stressful 10 mile move we have ever experienced. read more

Stephen, Lenny, Jose1, & Jose2 were fast, efficient, courteous, respectful, & overall generally just really NICE guys. They made sure to shrink-wrap everything & jumped in to carry something if they saw me carrying it (*I'm 62 & appreciated the help!) If I ever saw a piece of furniture that was coming apart, I'd mention it to them & they'd fix it immediately. They always checked with us to make sure the furniture placement was where we wanted it. Our moving day was a LONG 12 hour day, & still the total move costs were $1800 UNDER a quote we got from a competitor in Concord. Unfortunately I can't recommend this business. I love to use local businesses when possible so I am sad to have to post this review. I specifically asked for vaccinated movers since I was moving my mom from an assisted living facility to another one and it is required and was assured their guys were vaccinated. I personally don't care if someone is vaccinated and only requested this due to the requirements of the facilities. Half an hour before the move I got a call from the mover saying he read my email requesting same and neither mover was vaccinated. I had to scramble to figure out how to get them tested to do the move which wasted hours and caused stress. The guys who did the move were nice and knew what they were doing, but I would not recommend this business due to their screw up at the office. I emailed Ken, the guy who said the movers were vaccinated, but he didn't give me the courtesy of a reply. read more

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Damaged a brand new piece of furniture and the driver tried to blame us saying it was like that before they moved. Company agreed to fix the piece of furniture and it still looks bad. When the driver came to pick up the piece of furniture to take into get fixed I can hear him cussing at me while loading it in the truck, he did not realize I was standing outside of the back door. Also, noticed several large scratches on other pieces of furniture throughout the house. They did not wrap the furniture prior to taking it to the truck stacked pieces on top of each other that should not of been set on top of each other telling me they knew what they were doing.
