This has been my favorite for years because it is pretty low key if you stay on the LIttle Kachess side. We have a small tent, no RV, and this side is quieter with mostly families that are here to paddle and ride bikes. There are a couple of flush toilets with sinks around the sites in addition to the porta potty style. The hosts do a good job of keeping everything clean and the campsites are well maintained. Great places to walk around, and the Rachel Lake trailhead isn't far. This summer the water level is unusually low, as if it were September. We usually can paddle here just fine in July and August, but this time we had to walk or drive almost to the middle of the lake to put our paddleboards out, but we could still paddle and swim. The drive is fine, sand is stable and I have a Subaru that can handle the bumps. I've attached a map of the campground because they are hard to come by.

We found a roomy first come first serve site in the lodge loop for 6 of us and 3 tents. The bathrooms were clean and always stocked with toilet paper. Saw maybe 3 Mosquitoes during the 5 days we were there and we came prepared for them. Lakeshore trail close by. Easy 10-minute trek to the lake. Beautiful scenery but wish the lake wasn't so dried up in August. Still managed to find a spot to take a dip.

4 Stars for the beautiful and scenic views of the lake. Most sites are well covered with trees and shade. Reservations go fast so be sure to grab a spot! The water and beach are serene and beautiful. 1 Star for the bathrooms. It's basically an outhouse that has no ventilation running water and a lot of flies. They do housekeeping for it daily though.

The view from our camp site!

Lovely camping area very family friendly! The camp site person helping us out on July 3rd was super friendly and very helpful.

This is my idea of heaven during the summer. A nice getaway for anyone living in the metro area. Just a short 60 minute drive from Seattle through i-90. Far enough away from the city to feel like you're getting away from all that concrete, but not too far that it kills your gas. I've gone 3 or so times within the month of August. I loved it that much since the first time I went there. They have resident campers (mostly old people, who most are nice) who clean the bathrooms daily! No stink. No nastiness. Campers need not be afraid to drop that deuce! Bathrooms are close to every camp site. They have like 180 - 200 campsites. 5 or 6 different areas. And one area dedicated for double sites, perfect for multifamily campers. With the areas, each has their own themes. I like to compare some for example I would call "ooo, that's Palm Springs". haha. There were areas that were low and one that was up high. Each campsite is fashioned with fire pits and picnic tables. The really cool thing is each area has access to the lake. A really short walk really. And even cooler, it's not like all trails lead to one lake shore area. They all lead to different places depending on which area you decided to camp in. So plenty of privacy if you need. And ahh, the water is so clear. Lots of people bring their boats, kayaks, canoes, inner tubes... There's hiking. There's another trail to go to another lake, Rachael Lake I think it's called. That one takes a logging road to get up to - 8 miles and then another 2 or 4 miles to hike to. Things to know: $20/night for single site $40/night for double sites BRING YOUR OWN FIREWOOD oh, and the mosquito's are really big there make sure you're prepared because the nearest gas station is 8 - 12 miles East on i-90, but they do sell a hardcore bug spray repellent.

Alright so I heard of this campground from a friend and he made it sound like a very great place to camp for the summer weekend... well i just got back today (6/26/11) and I have to say he was correct! It was more than just a majestic, clear, good enough to drink lake but it also had a beautiful background of mountains and trees where it sat. This beautiful lake also had 2 creeks/ little rivers running to it from what I discovered which made me wanna kayak down it. The lake was really cold but today the weather was warm enough for me to take a dip. Furthermore, there is apparently a nature trail but the paths were not so great.... it seemed as if my group and I had to make our own trail. Now for the little Lake Kachess trail, well i must say it was an adventure... Along our trail we came across a completely washed up bridge that shouldve ran across the creek/river that continued with the trail that almost made us think that the short trail ended there but that didn't stop us from crossing the river so we hiked further along the river through the forest in the hopes that there would've been a fallen tree that we can use to cross the river and what do you know!!?? there was!!! well we hiked on little Kachess trail for about 4 and a half hours round trip and the trails weren't bad at all.....Except after you cross the initial natural tree log bridge.. I dont want to say too much.. Go discover! I gave this place 4 out of 5 stars because i think there couldve been something better to have sparked it to 5 stars... maybe if the campsites were more dense with trees other than logged trees which kinda lacked privacy but it wasn't too bad.. We chose site 22! and i personally like how it was next to the river ... i threw some beers in the river to keep them cold cuz i had no ice and put a bag of oysters in there to keep them fresh!! and the park workers were nice!! that's a plus cuz we were pretty loud and we exceeded our max number of people per campsite by 4!! LOL..... well that's enough for now.... its a must to go check out!! If you end up not having fun, slap yourself. Thats your fault Cuz I can have fun sleeping lol. If you have questions just comment or something... idk how yelp really works yet since this is my very first review on here!! HOLLA PS exit 62 off of I-90 and 5 miles in...

Majestic!

Ask the Community - Lake Kachess Campground

Are chairs/seats available in this campground?

Each campsite has one picnic table, could seat 4-6, but other seating like moveable chairs are not provided. Most people bring portable camp chairs.

If we have 2 cites, are the cites big enough to fit a total of 3 tents between both cites? The tents are on the larger side.

Yes. We had 1 site that fit three 6 man Tents

Are there any electrical outlets at campsites or in the bathrooms?

No there isn't

How easy is it to get a first come first serve spot?

It is pretty easy. A lot of people make reservations and either don't show up or leave early.

Do they sell wood in the campground?

Yes

Are there bathrooms?

Yea but most are like outhouses.

Is there signal?

Spotty

Is this a first come campsite, or can you make reservations?

There are selected walk-on sites for the year available and some are reservation only.

We located this RV park online as they had availability for arrival on a Thursday/departure on a Friday. Contact was made and it went extremely well as they were very knowledgeable and recommended the best way to maneuver our long 5th wheel into a spot that was adjacent to the pond. It was super easy to find. Layout was well planned out. The spots were plentiful. The pond is amazing for dogs. The pathways around the park - including to the Yakima River were well kept. The facilities were great and their store is one of the best I've ever been in. Highly recommend this park! We will be back

There is a large pond in the park that you can use for calm water activities. Our grandsons had a blast making friends, cycling and paddle boarding. There is plenty to do right here at Whispering Pines. There is a bounce pad, two nice playgrounds, a dog area, and as I mentioned before, the pond. The sites are large, level and nestled amongst the trees. There is plenty of wildlife for your viewing enjoyment. The park does have many rules in place for everyone's safety; and they do drive around in their little carts to enforce them. *Mind your manners and you shouldn't have any problems.

Salmon La Sac Campground - Wonderful campsite, I just wish the sites weren't configured so the front of our camper faced the road.

This was our first camping experience!…read more We had heard there were some spots where you could just drive in and see if there was some camping space available, but since this was our first time we didn't really want to risk it and reseved spot 044 online through recreation.gov. When we got there our spot was ready to go! It was a great area right next to the creek so we had some amazing soothing sounds at night, the very clean restrooms were just a 3 minute walk away, and we had some lovely neighbors. One of the main things for us was: we needed working toilets, water, and a dog-friendly space. Salmon la Sac was a great fit in all of these areas. The one thing I'll say is our spot (044) was hit HARD by the sun most of the day, and since we went there in early August it got real hot real fast. The guys who were camping right next to us (I believe they must've been either 042 or 046) had literally the best spot since it still had the creek right in front of them, but they also were in a shaded area, so if you go there, try to get that one!

There are multiple trails in the area with a range of difficulties for every type of hiker. The campsites can be reserved but some are on a first come first serve basis. If at all possible try to rent one by the river for some great views! We were lucky enough to have a campsite right next to the river and enjoyed it thoroughly. The campsites include picnic tables, fire pits, and great locations for tents. There are vault toilets and water pumps located throughout the campground. I am definitely coming back here again...I was even hesitant to post a review on Yelp because I want to keep it a secret so they don't get overbooked. I highly recommend this campground for a inexpensive way to treat your family and friends to a great time in a spectacular atmosphere.

Admittedly, we have not done a lot of camping at campgrounds like this one, in fact we haven't done…read morea lot of camping at all. That said, this is the sort of place that we want to go camping all the time now! We're definitely not go out in the woods and sleep on a camping pad under the stars type people. We're more camp where we can see the car and have a bathroom around type people. This definitely trends towards the latter. This little campground is about 17 miles past Bron Yr Aur in Naches and is an absolute gem of a spot. Upon checking in, you find they have a small store with plenty of food and beverage options. They have spots for tent camping, cabins with beds, and plenty of RV parking. We went up here for a friends birthday weekend and opted for one of the small cabins. It was named "mamas place "and was lovely. The cabins are newly renovated and have small kitchenette's, a nice TV, And most importantly were warm! The two that we saw in so I did not have bathrooms, but there is a shared central bathroom and shower house that's close to everything, and is also heated! On the grounds, they have a small beach area where the kids could go throw rocks in the River and during the summertime everyone is able to get into the water to cool off. They have tons of play equipment for kids to run around and play on, some awesome area for people to ride 4 x 4's if they brought them, and they even have a meadow type area where they hold weddings. It's incredibly picturesque with the river in the background and the cliffs behind it. Go out there at night and check out what they called the fire flies - a bunch of lights set up in the meadow the dance on the trees. It's pretty awesome! You are just close enough to be able to run into town for something you forgot, but also far enough away that your cell phone isn't going off all the time because the reception is bad. This is actually about as close to perfect spot as we've been, and we're really excited to go back!
