PSA: Thursday's this summer there is Music in the Park at this park from 6:30-8:00pm (through Aug. 11th).
This past week was my first time going to music in the park and I was totally skeptical. "Seattle Women's Steel Pan Project" was performing at this park that I had never heard of and I wasn't anxious to make time to go. My wife dragged me along and I am SO glad she did! The band was actually incredible. Multiple generations, multiple cultural, and all women. Collectively the dozen or so musicians spoke 5 different languages! The music they made sounded like something you hear on the radio, not in person.
The park was HUGE! There was a private parking lot, but also plenty of street parking all around. The lawn went on forever and was perfectly green and freshly mowed. Spread out throughout the lawn were hundreds of people laying out on picnic blankets, gathered to enjoy the music. Behind the stage was a big playground, two tennis courts, and an interactive game for kids that involves pressing lights as they lit up at the end of metal tubes.
I am anxious to get to the park again on a day when the crowd isn't there so I can see what the park is really about. read more
