This past week was my first time going to music in the park and I was totally skeptical. "Seattle Women's Steel Pan Project" was performing at this park that I had never heard of and I wasn't anxious to make time to go. My wife dragged me along and I am SO glad she did! The band was actually incredible. Multiple generations, multiple cultural, and all women. Collectively the dozen or so musicians spoke 5 different languages! The music they made sounded like something you hear on the radio, not in person. The park was HUGE! There was a private parking lot, but also plenty of street parking all around. The lawn went on forever and was perfectly green and freshly mowed. Spread out throughout the lawn were hundreds of people laying out on picnic blankets, gathered to enjoy the music. Behind the stage was a big playground, two tennis courts, and an interactive game for kids that involves pressing lights as they lit up at the end of metal tubes. I am anxious to get to the park again on a day when the crowd isn't there so I can see what the park is really about.

You can catch the sweet scent of roses, and during my visit, the dahlias were in full bloom! Tucked away in the back is a peaceful Japanese garden where you can also learn about its rich history. I noticed the apple trees were heavy with fruit, and the community garden had plenty of ripe vegetables growing. However, it felt like a bit of a shame that many of them were left unharvested and going to waste. Overall, it's a wonderful and relaxing spot to visit!

The trail (non-paved) to the beach is moderately steep. Loose gravel in some points so be careful. It's pretty narrow too. The paved walkway backup is also steep and will get the cardio going. Along the trail are many picnic tables to sit, eat a snack, take some pics, and catch your breath. Only downside is parking is limited. Go early if you can. Overall highly recommend.

Chelsea Park was my neighborhood park growing up. It's a nice neighborhood park tucked away just off Ambaum and 136th. The park is basically divided into two sections, the playground area which is on top of a little hill and the field, which is down below. The playground area was renovated within the last 10-15 years and has a nice playground and walkway area up above. I don't know if it's due to the location, off Ambaum and 136th/near the (formerly called Seahurst Village Apartments) or what, but I don't see too many kids there playing. The field down below has a small baseball/softball field that is well-kept because it's used for little league baseball/softball and Kennedy Catholics softball team as well. The field isn't by enough for high schoolers (90 ft base paths and 60 ft mound), nor can it accommodate power hitters (due to houses relatively close down the right field line and a moderately short left field. Basically, If you're looking to play baseball you're better off going to Sunset Fields or Moshier Fields - you'll have more real estate there. The open field/grassy area is though good for pickup games of football, soccer, ultimate frisbee, etc. as well as catch and just general running. Often, at night - just before sunset ("after work") you may often find members of Burien's Hispanic community playing recreational soccer there - so if you're someone who had the itch to play, and doesn't play organized soccer or can't find people to play with, then it may be worth dropping by one night to see if people are playing. All-in-all, Chelsea Park is a fairly nice neighborhood park in the Burien-area that provides a variety of different opportunities for playtime and/or rec-athletics

The park offers complimentary parking lots, plenty of picnic areas for both large and small groups, a playground, covered shelters, outdoor restrooms, and it's very dog- and bicycle-friendly. One of the best parts is simply relaxing along the waterfront path and watching the steady stream of Washington State Ferries traveling back and forth across the Sound. During the summer months, the park even features an outdoor swimming pool. Our main reason for visiting was to see Bruun Idun created by Danish artist Thomas Dambo, and it did not disappoint. While walking the Puget Sound trail to find the troll, we also spotted a bald eagle perched in its nest--very cool! After snapping photos, we were treated to a beautiful sunset over the water. With nature, art, and incredible views all in one place, Lincoln Park is absolutely worth a visit.

I planned to spend the day here on my most recent trip to the area, but I probably wouldn't do it again. The parking was a nightmare. I tried multiple times to find a parking spot in one of the available lots and it was impossible. I drove around blocks and blocks of residential areas and finally found a place that I could park for a few hours (according to the sign) and walk to the park. I know it sounds a little unnecessary to remark on how there were so many people in a hugely popular space, but I think my problem was that there were so many people in specific areas. I tried to walk down the concrete path from the lower parking area around the water and there must have been hundreds of teenagers hanging out. I would love to say that I'm exaggerating but at one point I started to count and I got to at least 80 before giving up. I think it's great that young people have a place to hang out; they were playing music and playing games and laughing and getting into the water... But it was so very loud. Maybe I came during some sort of event but it was the middle of the week early in the afternoon so I'm not sure what it could have been. Nevertheless, I saw a family packing up their picnic to move to another area because the teens were being so obnoxious. That wasn't the only place either. Many of the grassy areas were packed with people, some screaming or playing loud music. I found it very difficult to find a quiet space where I could just enjoy being in the park. The park itself is huge, so I continued on. I spent at least 2 hours in the park walking. The only things I really enjoyed were seeing the Dambo troll and probably most enjoyable was all of the bunnies! I must have seen dozens of bunnies as I was walking. I tried to stay as far away as possible because I had my dog with me but they were so sweet. They didn't see him at all bothered by all the people walking by them. The sunset was quite nice too but it was just starting as I was heading out. I'm not sure if it's just because I'm not from the area or if I happened here on a crazy busy day for some unknown reason but where I am from, people can enjoy parks while still being respectful to others around them and that did not seem to be a priority to the people visiting this park. I would definitely come here again to see if my experience was situational but I would maybe take public transit to avoid the parking headaches and I would absolutely try and get here during a time when school is in session.

The stairs are well maintained, cross back and forth with a few landings to rest or let people pass. At the base of the stairs, it turns into its former self, old broken down cement/wood steps that reach the beach. There's a sign warning you, so it's quite obvious. There's also a bench in the middle of the staircase for those who get winded easily. I recall there's a little over 100 stairs. It's quite easy for beginners, children and pets. The park faces the west and has a peak-a-boo view of the sunset at one of the landings. When you're done, walk up the trail and look for a clear area and benches. If you are lucky, you may see the eagles soaring above the trees next to their nests. Parking: very few spots, like 4 or 5, so get prepared to park out in the residential area and walk a little.

I will say that the parking lot is rather small and it can be very challenging to find any parking during the summer. When I arrived on this particular day, there was literally a line out to the road with vehicles trying to find parking. It can get pretty cut throat, too. The park itself is generously sized, in the splash pad has a lot of unique features that my kids really enjoyed. My favorite part is that they had features for small children as well as larger children. Usually when I go to other splash pads it smells funky or like chlorine. But this location smelled fresh and seemed to have been upkept recently. Western Washington is a notorious area for high amounts of trafficking, so I always have to keep an eye out wherever we go. But thankfully, this area seemed pretty safe so we will definitely be back next summer for more playtime.

It's really nice to have 3 fields together…read morefor softball purposes, and the grass in the outfield is fairly well maintained (although the ground is uneven), but other than that the field needs a big upgrade. The dirt infields are terrible. Around the bases and home plate are like a sandbox into the 1st game of the day, let alone several games later. It's a hazard trying to run around the bases here because you don't know what kind of surface your foot is coming down on, and several people end up pulling or twisting something they wouldn't have if the ground was solid. Supposedly turf is a few years out (it was a few years out a few years ago too), and that'll solve these issues. But, until then it's a convenient place to play, but really not great. Also, while they have a few water fountains by the fields, none of them work. You have to walk all the way to the bathrooms by the parking lot to get water. Finally, parking can be a major issue here if there is soccer, softball, and cricket all going on (or some variation thereof). There's a ton of wasted woodchipped areas between the existing parking lot and fields that should be converted to additional parking.
