Loved my interactions with Robert and Corey. They're patient, thorough, compassionate and personable. Steve is the only reason that I didn't give Laird Funeral Home a higher rating. Both times that I encountered him, there was a harshness in his tone and delivery. He definitely should NOT deal with customers directly. I went to a visitation for a friend of the family. The place was dark and dingy with a bit of a creepy, musty vibe. Their staff seemed preoccupied and disinterested in things going on in the visitation. I had to ask if they could make coffee since the pot was dry on the hot burner. Terrible. There needs to be less than one star. My Grandmother passed away in August 2018. The flash drive we had put together for the slide show with her memories and our favorite pics was not working on their system. I offered my laptop, and the screen show went on. The director set up my laptop right underneath the large viewing television, which I thought was odd but assumed they knew best (It was on an angle and turned in a strange direction.) Halfway through the funeral the power went out, and my laptop was CRUSHED when the television retracted! The screen was broken into bits and no information was visible when the system was plugged in. I was completely distracted and could not concentrate on saying goodbye to my Grandma because I was so upset about the damages as it was my work laptop. The funeral home stated that I should have it repaired and they would reimburse me for the damages. Well September is almost over, and after several weeks of phone tag I finally notified them that it would cost more to repair the pc than to replace it. They would not approve the cost, informed me that it was an older computer (it was a touchscreen so I'm not sure how "old" that can be or how they determined it's age since it was broken during the services) and that they would need to put me in touch with their insurance company. They were willing to pay for the screen to be repaired, but the damage went much further than that. I did obtain a detailed report from Microsoft for theirs and my records. I was so put off by their complete lack of empathy for a situation that they are fully responsible for. And very hurt that they could not be bothered to return any of my calls in that length of time. (Over a month) And I am still without a laptop waiting for an insurance broker to call me back. If you are in dire straits and have no choice but to use this facility, please do not lend them any of your personal property to use during your family's loss as it will be disregarded as being important or having any meaning to them. I will always be upset that saying goodbye to my last living grandparent was turned into a nightmare by their nonchalant behavior and lack of compassion to my continued stress, which was indirectly caused by their system, not mine. read more

I have attended many funerals at Laird's and also funerals that they have done at my home church. Steve and Rob Laird have never been anything other than professional in their conduct. And I will also say that about their employees. When my husband passed away they were kind and compassionate in walking me through the whole funeral process. They were honest and forthright and made my family's loss much easier to deal with. read more

Awful, awful, awful! We met with them to plan a funeral for our daughter. The man we met with cracked jokes, acted as if this was purely a business transaction (he actually said "a coffin this size will run ya about 350 bucks") was completely unprepared to answer our questions and gave us a cheery "have a great afternoon" when we left. Through out the whole process I was in touch with different funeral directors; yet each and every one of them were compassionate and helpful. Stay Away! Call somewhere else! My dad passed away unexpectedly in the middle of the night and the hospice care said we need to call funeral homes immediately because there was no morgue onsite. We've never made funeral arrangements before so I began to ask questions. The man on the phone cut me off saying tersely, "I'm not able to answer your questions at 3am, you'll have to call another funeral home." The phone call lasted less than 1 minute - needless to say he was not helpful. I hung up thinking he was rude. I then called the other local Laird number (a different number) and the same guy answered the phone, he berated me and told me he "is not going to play my games calling funeral homes at 3am to shop around." I again told him my dad died unexpectedly; I apologized calling in the middle of the night and that he should have some compassion - he then hung up on me. I wasn't involved in the planning of the services, but as a member of the family, I spent a good deal of time at Laird for the wake and funeral. They provided a comfortable environment for us while we were there with facilities for us to set up food for the whole family. They answered all questions and treated us with kindness and compassion always. I've known many people to use Laird Funeral Home, but this was my first experience. I would definitely return if the need arose. read more

Although the owners do seem a bit distant from families, they really do an amazing job with the service and taking care of the family and also taking care of the loved one. I don't know how these people stay in business since they have to constantly deal with grieving people who need direction in making rational decisions. They were absolutely rude to my wife when her brother passed away and seemed only interested in money. I have been involved in funeral services for numerous loved ones and friends and dealt with some very professional and caring service providers and Laird is anything but professional! Maybe they need to hire someone who can deal with the living as well as the dead. I wouldn't trust these people to take care of my dog! read more

If zero stars were an option, they would receive it. One of the most important things for a funeral home staff is compassion. Families come to grieve, not be made to feel like they are an inconvenience. The majority of the staff needs a lesson on basic human courtesy. Very unprofessional and uncaring. Their biggest concern is their payment. At the original meeting the funeral director went through the services and keep pushing the bill closer to me throughout the meeting. He then tapped his hand on it and said this needs to be paid. My mother passed away in July and at the meeting with the them we purchased 2 death certificates which were to be mailed to us and we were also told that they would fill a form for funeral reimbursement with the state for us. I called them today and spoke with their secretary who informed me that the death certificates were there and I had to pick them up. I asked why they were not mailed and she said she did not know. I then asked about the reimbursement form and his response was "If you remember our conversation on that day I told you that because your uncle paid for this he has to come get the form". First of all, this was never mentioned. Second, I'm sorry I was upset that day. How ignorant. He was callous and unprofessional. I would never use them again and or recommend them. read more

This place has the WORST people working there! I ordered flowers to be delivered there for a service for a friend. I am in a different state and just wanted to make sure the flowers were there the day of the service. When I called, the guy acted like it was a SUPER inconvenience. I was trying to be helpful and give details of the order. But he just complained the whole time and even told me it was a huge problem to be looking for the flowers. Well he didn't find them so I called the flower service to get more info. I ended up calling back the funeral home and talking to someone else just as rude! He even said, "didn't you just call? And what was the result of that conversation?" Like really? This is how you treat people? And all they gave was excuses that they had a lot going on. Well guess what? That's your job! And I found out the first guy I talked to was the owner! These people are disrespectful and disgusting. read more

Warning, you should be very wary of Laird. After reading this, do not say you weren't forewarned about Laird's underhanded strong-arm tactics to bully you into paying the same bill twice (aka double-dipping). It is with a heavy heart that Laird has forced me to dig up my deceased father's painful memories so that I can experience fresh wounds once again. I strongly recommend you seek a different funeral home. This entire experience has been incredibly painful creating additional unnecessary emotional heartache. Here's the facts: On February 3, 2012, my father died suddenly, on February 28, 2012, I paid Laird funeral home of West Dundee the full amount of $5,222.00 to cover the costs for my deceased father's services. On Mar 21, 2012, my check in the amount of $5,222.00 cleared Laird's Park National Bank account # 01890XXXXXX. I've never heard from Laird since burying my father, then fast forward nearly 5 years later, on Oct 24, 2016, I receive a threatening and intimidating letter from a lawyer at the firm of Ariano Hardy Ritt of South Elgin stating that they are representing Laird in collecting a past due debt in the amount of $5222.00 plus interest which now totals $8317.01. Laird is the most despicable, disrespectful, and disgusting excrement masquerading as a funeral home as they prey upon the feelings of the bereaved. Laird should be ashamed. If Laird were unsure whether I had paid their bill, they could have sent me a letter of inquiry asking if I could produce evidence because their records were not clear, but no, Laird didn't do that, instead, they sent an attack dog who penned an intimidating and hostile letter. As I stated, I have the cleared check, so why would they send a hostile letter instead of contacting me directly. Imagine you buried your father nearly 5 years ago, paid your bill in FULL, you're finally moving on, and then out of nowhere you get threatened that the funeral home is trying to collect the bill for a second time, and this time is looking to tack on huge additional fees. Sounds awfully fishy doesn't it? Instead, they hired a law firm to send a nasty intimidating letter in the hopes that I would pay the bill twice. Ironically, I was speaking with some banker friends who indicated that beyond 5 years, it may have been more difficult to retrieve the records. Unfortunately, I'll bet I'm not the only person who has received the same letter, for which many people probably just pay it because they're afraid or unsure or they're just confused. What a profit center? Get paid a second time plus exorbitant interest charges for the services they were already paid for 5 years earlier. This entire experience has been incredibly painful. If you wish to avoid additional pain and suffering beyond that which you are already experiencing as you grieve for your lost friend or family member, then do not say you weren't forewarned if you choose to use this terrible funeral home for the care of your most beloved's remains. Just remember though, you should expect to receive a letter perhaps 4 or 5 years from now as Laird hires a law firm to intimidate you into paying the same bill again. Let this stand as my written response per the request of Scott Richmond from Ariano harty ritt. I can't begin to tell you how much pain and suffering you have re-kindled.
