Countryside Funeral Home & Crematory - Roselle

The most difficult moment in our life is when our mother passed away. We struggled to accept that…read moreeven when she was already unconscious at the hospital, we still didn't decide to make arrangements. Therefore, when she actually took her last breath, we didn't know what to do. We wanted the place to be centralized where our family and friends would be able to come to the wake. There were two places we had in mind but this place took our breath away when we entered. They have other locations but the Roselle location made us feel like it's home. We spoke with Anne at the Roselle location and she spoke with us like we are family. It helped a lot when we are grieving and very emotional. Since there was no appointment scheduled, she directed us to Bartlett so we can speak with the funeral director. We drove to Bartlett which was only few minutes away. We spoke with Tim and we have no words for him but infinite gratitude and appreciation. He made us feel like family from the start to the very end and offered a lot of extras that would cost us in other places. On the day of the wake, we saw mom like she was just sleeping. I felt emotional and hugged Tim for making mom look a lot like herself. Her make-up was not cakey like others we have seen. He helped us put mom's jewelries and the rosary the we brought and gave us the one that they already had on her hands. Tim gave us the time we needed before visitors started pouring in. He made himself available just in case we needed anything. We also met the owner Mark. We met him like we have known him all along. When visitors started pouring in, they had no words but she looked beautiful like she always does. They had full staff the night of her wake which we were quite surprised and very impressed at the same time. Their lounge is quite big to accommodate everyone that is only our own. We didn't have to share the room with anyone. At the time, there was another funeral in the other room and we didn't even know they were there. They had tables, refrigerator and free beverages that includes coffee, water and soda. Everyone that came complimented us on how nice and accommodating everyone is at Countryside. It's the best service they have seen so far. They were there like family, welcoming everyone. On the day of the funeral, we were once again surprised and impressed on how organized it was. Now, the funeral director with us was John and a couple more staff directing what's needed. They are the same as the rest, very comforting and accommodating. We drove to St Isidore for the mass and everything turned out better than we expected. The time we were leaving the church, it was pouring very hard and yet, we still could not find anything to complain about. Everything turned out like how mom would have wanted it. There was one glitch tho where they forgot to give us the green bag with the thank you cards and book but not that much of a big deal to dent our appreciation of everything they did. We had mom cremated therefore at the time of cremation, they allowed us to see her one last time and there was no charge. Other places charge $300 to do so. They also have their own crematory which made us feel comfortable ensuring we will get mom's ashes instead of someone else's. They can only cremate one body at a time so that gave us assurance, her ashes is the only ashes we are getting. We will be forever grateful to their good service that we made the best decision when it counted the most.

My father passed away last month and we chose Shalom Memorial for his funeral service and burial…read more While I have never had to choose a funeral home before, I don't think I could be more pleased with our experience. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Before his passing, we had an initial visit with Michael regarding plot selection and he was helpful with helping us pick the location that best met our needs. No pressure, just a friendly visit and discussion. After he passed, we then worked with Sherry and Arlene to purchase the plot, casket, vault, shroud, death certificates, etc. The cost was substantial, but I imagine it is likely in line with other Jewish cemeteries in the area. Included in the cost is perpetual care of the grounds so there are no additional fees down the road. The chapel for his service was very nice and all of the people working there that day were super friendly. They live streamed his service which many in my family used. They also provided the ability to download the service which I decided to do. Shalom Memorial received the death certificates a few days afterwards from the village and we picked them right away so we could begin sending them to those who needed them. I really can't think of anything that I didn't like or was disappointed in.

While this process is always difficult, it couldn't have been easier or more smooth. Tony was wonderful: caring, thoughtful, resourceful, patient, and quick. He moved us through the decision-making process easily, recommended a rabbi and a Shiva location, and made things happen. The services were beautiful and meaningful, and our pain was eased because there was no additional stress. Many thanks from the Sandler family.

From the very first phone call they were kind, patient and attentive to every detail. Losing mom was incredibly difficult but their support made a hard time just a little bit easier to bear. They guided me through every step with care and clarity never making me feel rushed even though I called pretty much daily and asked a lot of questions. The service was beautiful and exactly what mom would have wanted :(. The funeral home is warm, clean and very open. Also the fact we had the entire space to ourselves was very meaningful. Thank you for all your help and helping us honor her memory with such grace and respect. I highly recommend Michaels funeral home which was recommended to me by a friend.

The pre-planning process was easy; unfortunately, decisions made during that process weren't communicated clearly between Michaels' staff members when the arrangements were finalized. When Michael was present, he was professional and respectful. Not having the funeral director immediately available throughout the visitation was unexpected. Though there were a couple negatives, our overall experience was good. Their prices are very competitive and they don't apply pressure to make more expensive choices during a challenging time. Most importantly, they made my mom look better than she had in years, after an extended illness. We are grateful for the gift of seeing a very beautiful mom/grandma/aunt/friend for the last time.
