Stacked with toppings, the lack of fish in my poke bowl was visible.
Caitlin N.

Hiked up the Traverse Mountain hill to try Laid Back poke for lunch today. After reading a number of reviews, I set my expectations to neutral so I could anticipate what my experience would be like. The staff was super friendly when I arrived and there was hardly anyone around at noon. I ordered a regular poke bowl for $13.50 with rice and just as other reviews mentioned, the fish portions were skimpy. I wouldn't even call them scoops, but I ended up with spicy tuna and a shoyu-ish salmon. Because of the lack of fish in my bowl, I opted for every topping, but even the toppings couldn't save the bowl. The rice was clumpy and mushy, the lack of flavor and amount of fish was disappointing, and all I could taste were pineapple and seaweed salad. If you're looking for true, authentic poke experiences and good quality, I'd recommend driving the extra 20 minute south to Savage Poke. This joint wasn't for me but it seems like others like it for their non-poke bowls.

Probably the worst place I've eaten. The chicken was just boiled and drenched in teriyaki sauce--completely flavorless and disappointing. The poke was even worse; the fish was not fresh, and I ended up feeling sick after eating it. It's really sad to see such poor quality, especially considering the money spent. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place--you'll only be disappointed

This is my go to place when I want Poké for lunch while I'm at work. I usually create my own bowls so I can add it what I like instead of working around a signature bowls. The wait can get a little long, depending on how many people are there and how many staff are there that day.

So good. Only complaint is scant portions of poke and toppings (but plentyy of rice). I feel like most places need to work on their fish:rice ratio.

Just because Laid Back Poke Shack is not next to the ocean, does not mean that you should skip this place. IMO, they have the best poke in Utah! I went in with average expectations, considering the seafood in Utah County is not great and they were exceeded by a long shot. I ordered the Laid Back bowl, which included Shrimp, Ahi and Kalua Pork on rice. The Ahi was fresh and the flavors on both the fish and shrimp made it exceptionally good. I also liked having the combination of the pork with the fish. Overall, it was so flavorful and filling, I will definitely be coming back. The atmosphere feels like you are in a beach town and the staff was totally friendly. You can also buy a Hawaiian Sun drink to go with your bowl (I always get Lilikoi Passion.) I recommend coming here if you're craving a tasty poke bowl!

Teriyaki Chicken Bowl

Very disappointed with this food. I love chicken teriyaki and this is the worst I have had. Chicken was not cleaned and is full of fat & gross pieces. Macaroni tasks Smokey and the noodles are firm like they weren't fully cooked. I would not suggest getting this ever.

Wow. We felt like this place was INCREDIBLE value. Super delicious food, great portion sizes, and really really reasonably priced. I got the kalua pork bowl and it was massive and had tons of amazing toppings that added so much. My husband got one of the signature bowls and said it was delicious. He has a dairy/egg allergy and they were very knowledgeable about ingredients and were accommodating. Super fresh, super fun. We will definitely be coming back!!! Also have to note - they have a kids bowl for $3!!? Amazed at the pricing for the insanely good quality. Give them your business!!!

When they said laid back they weren't kidding. Food was amazing! They ran out of a bunch of stuff

Found this place on Yelp and just had to try it and wanted to compare this place to Poke Luau in Midvale. Different type of menu and not as many choices as Poke Luau but was very delicious! Their other location is in Holladay which I haven't visited yet. Ordered the Surf & Turf which was ginger salmon, Kalua pork, pineapples and Maui cut onions on the top of white rice and seaweed salad. It was very delicious! Service was also great as someone was walking around asking to fill drinks and clearing plates etc. That was pretty awesome considering this isn't a sit down type restaurant where you order off the menu type of place. You first walk in and order a selection on the board or point to what you want and then pay for it. Will for sure return!

Excellent food. It was served fast and fresh. I went on my lunch break. If I lived in Utah I would eat there often.

The spicy ahi, salmon and snow crab are gluten free as well as the oka ahi, ceviche, pineapple sweet shrimp and gluten free ginger and spicy ginger ahi or salmon can be made to order. The pork is as well, but not the sauce that comes with it.

First, entering we were greeted by the servers who were smiley and friendly. The restaurant is decent sized and pretty clean. We were a little confused why it took almost 40 minutes to get our food. We were only one of three groups that were eating there. I am gluten free so I'm use to not having a ton of options and usually have to stay away from most of the sauces used but, I was able to order a few roles that are gluten free both naturally and/or after asking to not add a sauce. I was pleased to know they treat gluten free orders very cautiously and carefully. The roles are a good size, the fish tasted fresh and the flavors were great. Aside from the extremely long wait, the food was decent so we wanted to give them a second chance. Our second visit was much better. Greeted kindly again once we entered and sat right away. Our server was attentive and speedy. Our food came at a much better timing and the quality was consistent with our first visit. The prices are average, the quality of the food is good, servers are friendly and it's worth giving a shot

Great start. The menu is small but filled with a wonderful assortment or mouth-watering options. It was incredibly hard to narrow down what I wanted. I asked the server for some help choosing and was expertly guided to what my stomach desired. I ordered the pub burger (patty, pepper jack cheese, bacon jam, crispy onions and lemon pepper aioli) with fries. Hubby had the fish and chips. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time (20 minutes or so) and was visually stunning. My first bite of the pub burger was a melody of crunch from the onions, juicy juice from the nicely seasoned burger patty and a hint of bacon. I was worried about how the combo of a lemon pepper aioli and bacon jam would complement each other, but everything sang. My husband's fish and chips were perfectly cooked with flakey, golden filets. The fries were nicely cooked and seasoned. Great tartar sauce, fry sauce and ranch dressing! Only downsides - there is no sound proofing. Two guest tables on either side of us had no desire to use their "inside voices". Not only was it annoying to listen to every detail of what they were talking about, but their voices reverberated, leaving my entire party to just nod at each other. I had hoped staff would have asked those groups to keep the volume down just a little bit. Since this is like a garage motif, the open ceilings help the echo. My friends were also put off by the garage rags being used instead of standard napkins. I didn't mind but it was a less soft alternative to the standard napkin fare. I loved the garage style; a dark, moody and rough-around-the-edges casual feel. I wouldn't mind trying other menu options.

The service was pleasant and efficient--and a bonus -- the bathrooms were exceptionally clean. I would highly recommend and wouldn't mind coming back if we were ever in these parts again.
